Chapter 7 - Slums

Kami doesn't need to think long and already knows where it's the easiest to find his first believer. The slums or slave trader. It's well known that the worse off people are, the easier it is to influence them. A well-known example is the Great Depression in the 1930s. During this time, widespread poverty and unemployment made people more susceptible to populist leaders and radical ideas. The austrian painter capitalized on the economic despair in Germany to gain political support and rise to power.

But the question he has been asking himself since his arrival: "How can I communicate with other people?"

"System?" he asked

*ding*

[ Nameless Gods don't have the ability to talk freely to others. They can only talk with and be seen by high-ranking believers, special powers or via a holy medium. ]

"So buying slaves is impossible huh?.

Nevertheless, it should be easy to find some people who are near their death because of malnutrition and such. It may be cruel, but I may find some naive homeless kids who are living in the street because their parents died in the war." Kami concluded.

< In the north of the City, Slum Region >

No matter in which way Kami looks, the streets are full of malnourished people, whether woman, man, child or old. They all wear simple clothes that look like they were last washed many years ago. It smells like rotten eggs everywhere and the streets are full of feces.

"These poor people, they need to sit in their own shit... thank goodness I can fly." he thought.

"These bastards of the Ambrosius Religion, why don't they help these people? They are just like the church of the Middle Ages in my world: greedy.

Greedy for money and power. If they don't benefit, they don't lift a finger!" Kami cursed.

He continues: "But I should thank them for presenting me with so many believers on a silver plate. Additionally, they should accumulate some hatred towards Ambroxius Religion, which makes it easier for me to destroy them later."

< In a small hut in the centre of the Slum >

"Esther, should we really steal the bread from old man P. ?", a frail little boy asked.

The boy's name is Aeden and he is 14 years old. He has short brown hair and is just 1,60 meters tall, a result of the severe malnutrition.

"Aeden, we need this bread! Do you really want to see Adelaide die?!" ,the girl shouted, clearly outraged and in despair.

The girl who just spoke is Esther, the leader of a gang of children living in the slums. She just turned 16 last month. Esther has long blond hair and a beautiful face. But what truly set her apart from others was the unique design of her irises. Within the blue expanse, golden streaks formed a pattern resembling a radiant starburst, shimmering and shifting with every movement. This golden star in her eyes gave them an otherworldly glow, making it seem as though she held the cosmos within her gaze. Clearly a singularity in the whole World.

The person both are talking about is a fragile little girl with the name Adelaide. She is only 8 years old and is currently in the risk of death because she couldn't eat something for a whole month.

She arrived in the slums 2 months ago, after her father got drafted into the army. Her mother died after giving birth to her. She doesn't have known relatives.

"You're right Esther, but old man P. is not someone we can offend! He is insane! He even killed a Mother and her newborn just because they stole some Water!", Aeden shouted back.

"Either we risk getting caught by old man P. or we let Adelaide die!", Esther issues an ultimatum and puts Aeden in a difficult position.

< after 5 minutes of a heated debate >

"*Sigh* we obviously need to save her.", Aeden answered.

"Right choice Aeden! Gather the other kids and we go to commence our plan!" Esther commanded

"Yes, Boss!"
