Chapter 17 - Chapter 16: Academic Exam Preparation

I don't want to do it again.

I should really be able to restrain myself.

When I saved Fisa, I almost unconsciously knocked my classmate out.

I should have let myself get hit by him, instead of parrying her attack and striking back.

If he did it again, I'd have to stand by without fighting back.

It's a little late, but luckily I realized it before it became too late.

Ah, what a complicated feeling.

I did it because I was annoyed.

Honestly, that day was the first time I could feel something.

Even though it was very little and almost imperceptible, I still knew that the feeling I was experiencing was different from before.

I loved Fisa, and I was upset when I saw someone refer to her as the perfect object.

That person was also the one who had given me that hateful look when I was in class earlier.

I'll take care of that person in a different way.

Maybe in some time, he would challenge me again.

Or instead, he will keep quiet and choose to plan something in the long run.

That's worth looking forward to.

I hope that person can put up an interesting fight.

I have a dilemma of two things.

On the one hand, I want to protect Fisa from that person, but on the other hand, I don't want my abilities to be exposed just because of a weak person like him.

Well, I guess time will tell.

Now I'm in the classroom waiting for the first lesson to start.

"Sa-satomi."

Fisa called out to me.

Things were a bit awkward now, probably because yesterday I fell asleep on her thigh.

After about two hours of me falling asleep on Fisa's thigh, when I woke up, we decided to go straight back to our respective dorm rooms.

Of course, it was awkward.

"What's wrong, Fisa?"

"You know how it is now?"

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing, please forget it!"

"Hmm, yes."

I didn't understand what she meant.

Well, it would be best if I just kept quiet.

I'll figure it out and understand it myself as time goes by.

It was better than forcing it.

"Look, Satomi. I actually want us to exchange cell phone numbers now."

Oh, so about that.

I hadn't opened the contacts section since the beginning when the phone was given to me, so I opened it now.

0 contacts available.

Well, it looks like I really should get someone's number to keep in contacts.

"Alright, I don't mind."

"Really?"

"Yes, I haven't saved anyone's number in this phone anyway."

"Are you serious?!"

"Why would I lie? Well, you can see for yourself."

I handed Fisa my cell phone, and she took it.

"Uh, what a surprise. Your contacts are completely empty!"

Fisa was surprised when she saw it herself.

"Well, that's how it is."

"I've added my number to your contacts, so you should feel happy!"

So that was it, I had gotten Fisa's contact as the first person I saved on my phone.

I thought it was good that her first contact was the person I loved.

"I'm very happy, I guess."

"Why is your answer hesitant?"

"Fisa, are you okay?"

"Uh, what's with the sudden question?"

Well, this was a bit strange.

Fisa was acting as if the incident a few days ago hadn't happened.

She's still as cheerful as ever, even though just a few days ago I could feel her fear.

Her expression, her trembling body, the sweat on her body, those were all signs that she was scared.

"Let me ask you one more time, are you okay?"

"If you keep asking me... then yes, I'm fine."

"Is that so?"

Fisa lied.

I think she's been hiding something from me.

Well, I need to finish with that person soon so Fisa won't be bothered anymore.

"Satomi, why are you asking like that?"

"..."

I couldn't help but pause as I could sense that Mr. Smith was about to come and enter the classroom.

"Ah, Mr. Smith is coming!"

And sure enough, a few seconds later he really did come.

"Then, I'll go back first."

"Yes."

The students scattered to their seats including Fisa.

"Good morning, all of you! Before the lesson starts, I want to tell you something."

As usual, Mr. Smith started greeting his students.

But this time there was something different, he said that he wanted to tell them something before the lesson started.

"Next week, from Monday to Friday, you will have your exams. In short, from Monday to Tuesday, you will have academic exams. For Wednesday through Friday, you have athletic exams. I hope you can prepare well."

"..."

"Do you have any questions?"

Since I've been invited, maybe I'll ask Mr. Smith one question.

"Mr. Smith."

"Yes, Satomi. Please!"

I stood up.

"If it's a test, will the points apply?"

"Yes, as you said. Next week's exam will be related to points, you can get points added or deducted from the exam, and some of you may even be expelled if you continue to fail."

Though the first year students were still quite new to this school.

But with the school's special rules on the sheet of paper yesterday, they must be able to prepare for an impromptu exam and if anyone protests, then punishment will be given to that person.

They were also required to get an average grade or above to avoid punishment.

"Mr. Smith, how many points are deducted if you fail?"

I asked Mr. Smith again.

"The rules are different every year, so I still don't know... but for last year there were a lot of new students who were dropped out for failing this exam, because they experienced a 100 point deduction if they failed a subject."

"Alright Mr. Smith, thanks for the answer!"

"No problem, you can sit down now!"

Since I was satisfied with his answer, I thanked him and sat down again.

I had already gotten an idea of what next week's exams would be like.

On Monday and Tuesday, we will have academic exams.

For Wednesday through Friday, we have athletic exams.

Maybe some rules will be explained next week during the exam as well, so we should be able to understand them properly.

Especially for last year, 100 points will be deducted if we fail a subject.

In this school, there are 4 types of subjects:

1. Science, which includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

2. Mathematics.

3. English.

4. Physical Education or Sports.

In total, there will be 6 subjects.

If a student fails all 6 subjects, then he/she has already received a deduction of 600 points.

I think that's quite a lot, especially since Mr. Smith hasn't explained the rules of the athletic exam, including the points section.

"Are there any more questions?"

"..."

Everyone was silent.

"Okay, since there are no more. Let's start the lesson now!"

Finished with the discussion of next Sunday's exam, Mr. Smith started the lesson as usual.
