Even though Xander wasn't able to see anyone, that voice sounded oddly familiar. He had definitely heard it before, but he just couldn't remember where.
After looking around for a while, Xander dismissed the whole incident as another trick of the Nightscape and moved on to his next task.
By killing the Ankarog Drones and Warriors, Xander had weakened the Ankarog colony, but to completely wipe them off the map, he needed to destroy their nest. Even if a single batch of eggs managed to survive, they would all hatch in a few hours and grow into adults within a week.
Since Ankarogs had incredibly short growth phases, their colony could recover from devastating natural disasters and attacks from other Ethereals within weeks. For this reason, it was important to completely purge their nesting ground and get rid of all eggs and larvae as soon as possible.
