With the Eyeless Watcher gripped in his right hand, Xander walked toward the cave entrance which stood before him like the gaping maw of some ancient beast, waiting to swallow him alive.
No sane Dreamwalker would ever willingly walk into an Ankarog nest, but Xander had no choice. Destroying the cryptid colony was the only way for him to cleanse the Nightscape.
As Xander walked into the cave, the stench of rotting corpses mingled with the foul odor of fresh Ankarog droppings stung his nostrils. It was damp and warm inside, with barely any light to guide an outsider.
Since Ankarogs had excellent night vision, their eyes enabled them to navigate the inky darkness with ease, but Xander felt completely lost inside the cave. The faint light from the twin moons only illuminated the entrance, but the rest of the cave was steeped in blinding darkness.
