Unlike Leena, Xander wasn't a stranger to the Nightscape. He had visited plenty of Death Nightmares over the course of his career. However, the fact that Claire's body had been marked by the cultists gave him plenty of reason to be worried about.
The last time Xander had stepped inside a tampered Death Nightmare, he had run into a Black Night and even had the terrible misfortune of summoning a Dread Lord. Those lessons were still fresh in his mind, and he wanted to avoid a repeat of his previous mistakes.
Knowing the cultists as well as he did, Xander was certain that this Death Nightmare would also be full of traps and hurdles. He needed to keep his guard up at all times and find the Last Memory as fast as possible.
Before heading inside the portal, Xander decided to have one last conversation with Claire's husband. Putting his Chronica away, he approached the grieving man.
