Chapter 8 - Chapter 8. Ownership

"Elizabeth! Open the door!"

He banged on the wood angrily once more, and this time it was loud enough to cause her to jump up and quickly unlock and open the door out of fear that he would wake the live-in housekeeper. She had no doubt that he was furiously angry, even though his voice had only been a harsh whisper through the wood. She was surprised to see a flash of hot rage on his face as she stood there looking up at him in the low light. However, the emotion was quickly covered up by the more common mask of icy indifference, leaving her unsure of whether or not she had imagined it.

He questioned sternly, "What are you doing in here?

He clenched his jaw as she said quietly, "I've decided to move into this room."

She was looking forward to having this discussion, but not until the morning. Anthony surprised her, It was completely out of character for him to actually come thumping on her bedroom door demanding an explanation in the dead of night. She had anticipated a cold and controlled conversation about it over the breakfast table. She had anticipated him being upset about her moving out of their bedroom. She could see the stormy emotion brewing in his eyes because of the light from the landing, and she had to swallow her disappointment when she saw that the emotion had been frozen into ice.

He grimaced and said, "I can see that."

She observed that he was struggling to ask the question—

"I think the pertinent question is why," he replied.

She shrugged once more, saying, "I'd feel like a hypocrite if I stayed in the master bedroom with you. It wouldn't feel right for me to continue to share your bed as if we hadn't just talked about getting a divorce this morning. ".

He laughed and said, "You're being ridiculous.

"No. For the first time in almost two years, I believe that I am actually speaking logically. ".

"My spouse."

He emphasized the last word with a lot of sarcasm,

"and I share a bed If I have to drag you there while you're kicking and screaming, you're coming back to our bedroom!".

Knowing that if he decided to follow through on his threat, she would undoubtedly lose to his superior strength and size.

She conceded "I might have to sleep with you,but I won't be having sex with you anymore."

He seemed genuinely shocked by that, as shocked as Elizabeth felt for even daring to ask, "You would deny me, your husband, this basic marital right?".

"Yes."

He approached her with a menacing step as his eyes narrowed.

He looked dismissively over her thin, trembling body covered in her silk pajamas and asked, "What's to stop me from just taking what belongs to me?"

Elizabeth crossed her arms over her chest and hunched her shoulders in response.

She muttered softly, "I don't belong to you.

"Well, I undoubtedly spent a lot of money on you. to me, that embodies ownership. ".

He softly laughed as she argued angrily, "Look, I have no idea what you're talking about.

He mocked, "And you're still singing the same old tune. This is irrelevant. I don't want to go over this information again because it serves no purpose."

He snatched her hand and drew her back toward their bedroom, which was a few doors down the hall. "Come on, we're going to bed!" he yelled. She was so startled by the sudden gesture that she stumbled along behind him before she dug in her heels and forced him to essentially drag her the final few feet.
