Bobby counted the days left until his birthday with so much enthusiasm it was driving his parents crazy. He was so excited he would have counted the hours, the minutes even, but his math skills were lacking even for a kid his age.
"Can I get my present now?"
"No, you can't sweetie." His mom replied.
"Can I have cake today?"
"No, you'll have to wait until friday." This time it was his dad's turn to answer, but in spite of their efforts to get his son to understand that he needed to be patient, Bobby kept insisting over and over.
Bobby knew the days of the week, but 'friday' was an abstract concept for him and not an actual measure of time. But his parents weren't the only ones annoyed as Bobby felt that the more he asked, the slower time passed and all he wanted was to celebrate his birthday already.
On that particular night, Bobby was especially impatient and when his parents tucked him into bed he couldn't keep himself from insisting.
