Chapter 1 - The Past..

Sometime roughly 400 years ago..

Mom! Mooooom! MOM!!!

"WHAT?! Jolene I'm trying to get some work done!" Dolores said as she frantically typed on her laptop. "I don't think you need to go on your work trip mom. I think you should just close your laptop and stay home with me. We can start our garden like you promised!" Jolene said pointing to a dry grassy area in their backyard. It was a nice home just out of the city limits. Dolores considered it an escape although she hardly ever enjoyed the comforts while home. The yard wasn't fenced off as there was nothing behind the house but forest, but the area wasn't known to have large dangerous animals so Dolores preferred to keep the view open. Jolene stared off into the forest daydreaming as usual. Many times she has been scolded by her mother for wandering too far into the forest. She would often ask her mom if she thinks the trees talk to eachother. Her mother would always say "no honey, trees and plants don't talk. It's fun to imagine, but I just want to be honest with you about the way the world is". Jolene let out a long sigh when she suddenly heard a loud thump! She quickly turned around and saw her mother lying on the floor. Jolene frantically ran to her mother and started shaking her. MOM! Are you ok?! Mom wake up! Jolene started to sob hugging her mother. Dolores lay there when her eyes quickly opened wide and she took a deep breathe almost as if relieved. She stared up for a moment and started to caress Jolene's hair. "Oh honey! I'm fine!". Jolene looked up at her mother who was still staring but with a gentle smile. "I was scared mom!" She said. "I'm sorry honey I didn't mean to frighten you. Tell you what.. how about we take a nice walk in the forest?". "REALLY?!" Jolene exclaimed. I'll get my shoes! No no… it's better to walk with our feet directly on the earth.

The two had reached the forest when Dolores stopped and closed her eyes. She took in a deep breathe and smiled. Jolene looked at her curiously and asked what was making her so happy. "The trees honey.. they are telling me such wonderful stories. The animals are being very polite and helpful.. Ohh and the Mother.. she's holding us with so much love!". Would you like to see? Dolores asked. Jolene excitedly shook her head yes. "Hold my hand and close your eyes. Now take a deep breathe and invite spirit into your heart". Jolene did as she was told. She began to feel a sensation of love and comfort rising through her feet into her entire body, and she could hear friendly voice's greeting her. Jolene opened her eyes and simply stared in amazement. She could see different colors of light emanating from the trees and plants all around her. The breeze flowed through her hair and gently giggled. She noticed a small chipmunk approaching shyly. "It's ok" Jolene said. Then the chipmunk climbed her leg up her body onto her shoulder. At the same time a Hawk landed on Dolores' shoulder. The trees spoke "We have so much to talk about. It has been too long". The two looked at eachother.. looked back, and began walking into the forest.
