Chapter 3 - Healing an Injury

Lukas began to stir after some time. I let him wake up and realize he was completely healed bfore I spoke to him.

"Do you feel better?" I asked.

"How did you heal me?" he asked out loud.

"You know you can just think your words to me right. I don't want people to think you are strange or anything by seeing you talk out loud to something that they don't even know the existence of."

"Oh wow that's neat." was Lukas's reply.

"In answer to your question. I can create things that I am familiar with. This does take some of my power and my power has to be replenished. I can regenerate some of my power through Essence. I can't gather it naturally. It has to be filtered through you." I stated.

"I can't absorb Essence though." Lukas told me.

"I know. I have an idea though. We are connected now. I can absorb Essence, so I am going to try and deepen our connection. I need your permission to do this. It will hopefully allow you to channel essence to me, but you won't be able to use it yourself. It will allow me to access it and then I can start to rebuild my power and help you more in the future. However it could be painful. Nothing, especially power, comes free. I'll start as soon as you agree. Be sure to think this over though." I informed him.

"What is there to think about. Go ahead and do it." Lukas replied.

"Let's get somewhere safe first." I told him.

Slowly Lukas began to make his way back to the orphanage where he lived. After arriving at the orphanage, he went inside to his small room that was reminiscent of a small cell in my life. He layed down on the hard cot and closed his eyes as he prepared for another bout of pain. As he closed his eyes I began to work.

I utilized the same sense I had used in the void. I had been able to see through Lukas's eyes and use his senses to know what was going on before. I hoped this sense was going to be the key to being able to absorb Essence, otherwise we would be in trouble. Now I wasn't looking through his mind or collecting information on him and the world. I as looking at his body and I was slowly inspecting his soul. I used this sense, which I decided to call Soul Sense, to actually see his body. It was very weak. His body had no strengthening. It reminded me of my body only instead of being large and obese his was tiny and frail. Although 12, he could pass for 8. I continued to search through his body and I found nothing wrong physically.

I then moved on to his soul. It was like a tiny, miniscule flame sitting just over his navel. I studied it and watched it. It was exceptionally weak I could assume from the size. It was so small it was barely even there. How did it connect to the world. I knew that the size and strength of your soul was the deciding factor in how much Essence someone could manipulate. Only someone who was dead could not manipulate Essence. Lukas wasn't dead obviously, but his soul was almost dead it seemed. I looked closer and then I saw it.

It was there. A small hole from his soul to the outside world. It was as small as the syringe I used to use to inject my insulin. I t was deep, and it reached to a point close to where the soul is, but I could see where there was a scar. This scar, it bisected where the hole would be, I had cut through this small hole and caused it to close up as it healed. I knew from Lukas's memories that People absorbed Essence through their Essence Portals. The bigger the portal, the more Essence they could take in at once. The bigger the soul, the more Essence they could hold.

Lukas had the smallest soul in the world I figured. And he actually had only 1 Portal, and it was tiny. This had resulted in his scar causing the hole to shift. If it had been someone else they would have felt a slight dop in accumulation. Nothing more though. For Lukas this was a catastrophe. His soul was starving and he couldn't feed it.

As I studied the injury, I wondered what I could do to make it right. I didn't think just puncturing through to the soul would work. I would need to make a link somehow between the soul and the Portal. As I racked my brain for an answer I began to remember a game I had played in the past. This game required you to use a gun to make portals that you could pass through. You would simply point at one Place and pull the trigger to make a portal appear. The next trigger pull would make a portal connected to that one appear and you could then pass through.

The Portal gun was used to kill enemies by dropping them into environmental hazards and to let you traverse through the boards. I remember I hadn't played this game a whole lot. I hadn't cared for it, but the premise should work.

I accessed my remaining Essence power and I concentrated on the portal gun. I attuned it to the frequency and vibration I felt from Lukas's soul. I made sure that only Essence could pass through the portal I was going to create and I "pulled" the trigger with my mind. A perfectly sized blue portal appeared floating just above his soul. This was the exit portal. I concentrated once again and again pulled the trigger in my mind. This time an orange circle appeared at the end of the Essence Pore Lukas had. This was an entrance portal.

As soon as I finished with the second portal I saw the Essence begin to flow into Lukas's soul. It was at this point that I realized I had been wrong. I had actually cured Lukas. He could now feel and manipulate Essence like everyone else. Even though it was a tiny amount he could actually feel it, control it, and utilize it.

It was at this point that I realized I had used nearly every drop of my Essence Power. I felt extremely weak. I had time to tell Lukas that I was going to rest and recover power, but he was recovered, but not to let anyone know. As I began to slip into a darkness I thought I heard an eerie almost disappointed laugh echo through my head.
