She blinked open her tired eyes, her vision blurred and unfocused, struggling to make sense of her surroundings. Gradually, as the fog of drowsiness lifted, she found herself seated in the dimly lit backseat of a sleek SUV, the soft glow of passing streetlights casting eerie shadows across the interior.
'Well, at least I got my sleep covered for the next few days.'
"Phew! I thought you were dead for a second there."
Haven jolted back in her seat, turning sideways to see the last person she had expected to see kidnapped alongside her.
Kevin.
Of course, it had to be this guy out of all people.
Is this a sign that my luck's completely drained out?
"What are you doing here?!" she hissed out, her eyes darting toward the men driving the SUV. They seemed utterly oblivious to their conversation for some reason.
"They asked me where they could find you at the coffee shop and then tossed me in the backseat of the car like I was trash!" he yelled out, receiving no answer in reply other than silence.
Haven leaned back in her seat and breathed out. Knowing how Lily could be, she would probably be raving around the whole of China to do anything she could to get her out of this situation. She wondered if Lily thought of going to Zei but then considered otherwise.
He would probably find her dead body soon enough and bury it with a smile.
Curse him.
"What are we going to do now?" Kevin's face was a mixture of fear and dread but Haven only shrugged nonchalantly.
"We'll just wait for them to slaughter us and then sell our organs. No big deal, right?"
He gulped nervously. "Are you serious! Are you crazy?"
Haven smiled as he looked at her in disbelief. "Yes, I am. Wanna jump out the window to Hell with me?"
Kevin stared at her, aghast. The car suddenly came to a halt and one of the men spoke, "Don't even think about it, lady! We're here so get out."
Kevin grumpily got out just as she stepped out and wasted no time observing her surroundings, trying to figure out where they had brought her. The area seemed abandoned and desolate, and in the dark of the night, she couldn't recognize the place.
"My pants are really wet, Sir. Can I change them please, for coffee's sake!" he begged and the man hesitantly nodded while Haven tried her best not to burst out laughing.
"There are clothes in the backseat, go and change and you better be out in 2 minutes!"
As soon as Kevin entered the car, Haven parted her lips to say, "I want to use the bathroom."
The man immediately shook his head. "I don't trust you."
"Please?" she tried the best expression of her puppy eyes, internally whooping at the sudden doubt flashing in his eyes at her adorable face.
If this was my previous face, he would've run away screaming if I even tried doing this...
To convince him fully, she easily lied, "You see, it's 'that' time of the month."
He finally relented. "Hey, you! Take her with you and keep an eye on her."
Haven spotted Kevin coming out of the car just as the man steered her away in the direction of the public bathrooms. She had to bite her lip hard or else she would've been rolling on the floor at seeing his figure.
"These pants are too tall!" he complained and one of the men came forward. Out of nowhere, he pulled them down and Kevin screamed out in mortification.
"What in the name of— I'm not even wearing underwear!" he stared at him in shock before pulling up his pants and glaring at the man.
"That's what you get for complaining." the guard shrugged and then slipped out his phone when he felt it ringing inside his pocket.
It was his Boss.
He walked a distance before turning around and receiving the call. "Yes, Mr. Kang. They're with us— we'll go there as soon as possible!"
"Tell me more information about the girl."
The man started to explain. "She's very young, younger than Joker himself. And he was spotted coming out of her apartment a few days ago so they must have something between them!"
"Excellent!" his Boss exclaimed. "We finally found his weakness. How about the other guy?" he asked excitedly.
"He seems close to her. So if she doesn't answer some of our questions, he would do it without any hesitation since he's nothing but a coward."
"Interesting! So this is Joker's type? How is she? Beautiful?"
"She's gorgeous but unfortunately, we can do nothing with her, Sir." the man smirked.
"You aren't allowed to do any such thing either, idiot! But seriously though, why? Is she secretly a man or something—?"
The man cut him off. "She's actually on her period."
"..."
"I did not need to know that."
The call ended just as Haven came running toward Kevin, relieved that he was still alive and didn't get himself killed. Having another death on her conscience wouldn't have helped her get out of this situation any easier.
"Listen, you two. We need to get to our destination in under 5 minutes so you both better not play any tricks on us!"
They both nodded, glancing at each other briefly. They started walking toward what seemed like an abandoned warehouse of a sort, and Haven somehow felt that it looked similar.
Similar to several of Wei's bases all over the Country.
Her brows narrowed down in confusion but all she could hope for was for Lily to get help from somewhere. And if that didn't happen, she needed to get both of them out of this mess by herself.
Like always.
