The door slammed shut behind her, reverberating through the silent room. As the echo faded, she found herself in a state of shock, her heart pounding in her chest like a frantic drumbeat, her hands trembling as she placed them down on the floor and wondered what the hell had possessed her not to stop him.
She hadn't stopped him but neither had he stopped himself.
This was wrong.
So wrong on multiple levels but something inside her snapped, the piece of her chaotic puzzle coming together and becoming clearer with what happened a few minutes ago before the maid finally caught them.
She didn't hate him.
But god, she wished she did.
