"I know you're a murderer." she fired back, pushing off the wall. "What more is there to know than that?" And she stretched onto her tiptoes to get in his face. "I'm disgusted to be tied to you."
Zei's eyes flitted back and forth between hers, lit like a furnace with rage as he considered which response might sting the most.
"You didn't seem disgusted," he said after a long moment, just a whisper. "You let me hold you that night and you didn't seem disgusted." His eyes tightened. "You fucking liked it."
She knew he could feel the spark of humiliation in her — parting her lips, she wasted no time in covering it up. "You have the curse to thank for that. And you know what?" She bared her teeth to deliver a sting of her own. "I think I prefer it to you."
She still remembered that look in his eyes. It wasn't him; it was the curse.
