Chapter 19 - Ch 19: Losing Control

Leaving through the side door, Martin hastily walked to the trees at the side of the road and made his way through them.

The trip from home to the city while riding a caravan took about 8 hours, so going back on foot would probably require more than double the time, taking into consideration resting, and taking detours in case he met some danger.

Luckily, before he left the city, he bought food and clothes, storing them in his storage space, so now he could use some of them in his travel.

Martin walked between the trees feeling that someone is following him, and the person who was doing so is doing a bad job at it, as Martin can keep hearing the snapping of sticks and leaves under their feet.

Picking up the pace, Martin started taking quicker steps as he moved between the trees, hearing the person following him getting closer, Martin walked behind one of the trees, and vanished into thin air, appearing on top of a tree branch, where he used the close trees and bushes as a cover to be able to climb the tree unseen.

A few seconds later, a cloaked figure appeared through the bushes and stood at the tree that Martin lastly walked beside, looking around in confusion.

Up atop the tree branch, Martin was sitting silently observing, as he was planning his next move, thinking to himself, "So someone really was following me, not a wild animal, for how long though? Do I kill him?".

He was at a loss, not knowing if he should confront his pursuer, or just wait for him to leave. What if he wasn't strong enough to fight this cloaked individual?

Maybe he was just a bandit following him, so killing him won't be a problem. He also can get a bit of coin while he's at it, after all the city issued a bounty of five silver coins for each bandit, alive or dead.

As for the leader, his head is worth 2 gold coins. taking a deep breath, Martin decided to confront this bandit, as greed flashed in his eyes.

He was thinking of injuring him, then questioning him, to get information about other bandits, and his leader in case you wanted to get more coins.

Slowly, Martin climbed down the tree and started getting closer to the cloaked individual, using the overgrown bushes as cover.

When he was about 20 yards away, he noticed that this cloaked individual's figure is that of a woman, thinking to himself, " She is too thin to be a warrior, she is either a swordsman or an assassin, but her cloak can't let me see her weapons".

Taking his chances, Martin decided to attack head-on, after all, his strength is about the same level as that of a berserker, and even if she was faster than him, he can suppress her using the strength and technique that he spent his life honing.

Hearing the bushes move behind her, the cloaked woman turned to look at the source of this commotion, thinking it was an animal, but instead, she saw Martin's cloaked figure heading straight at her, with a black sword in his hand.

Looking at his face, she recognized Martin, and she recognized that look in his eyes, his gaze which was cold as ice and empty of emotions.

Seeing Martin charge at her, she involuntarily took a step back, from fear, but stepped on her cloak in the process, and fell on the ground dodging Martin's black blade by a hair.

Martin didn't stop there, seeing that the enemy dodged his attack, he used his movement and speed momentum by turning his body along with his sword into an even faster attack, wanting to slash down at her.

After falling, the woman's cloak fell from atop her head, revealing her face, as Martin's sharp blade was reaching its target, it stopped to a halt.

A surprised expression coloring his face, "priestess Lucie?!"

Releasing a small breath, priestess Lucie sat on the ground, not believing that she is still alive, thanking her God in her heart, for protecting her and saving her life.

In the next moment, Martin's expression turned dark, he asked, "What are you doing here? and why are you following me?"

Hearing Martin's question, priestess Lucie stiffed, without uttering a single word. Grabbing her with his hand, he asked again, "I asked you why the hell were you following me".

Looking into his eyes, priestess Lucie saw the same look, as the one he had when he slaughtered the thugs back at the slums, remembering that scene that was etched in her mind she quickly looked down at the ground and reluctantly answered, "I was ordered by the goddess of justice to keep an eye on you and protect you".

Martin fell into a daze, he asked, "Why would the goddess of justice ask you to do that?"

"I don't know, after all, we mortals can't fathom the thoughts of the gods, maybe she had high expectations for you."

"Yeah, right", Martin replied sarcastically.

He then stood in place, deep in thought, trying to understand what does this goddess want from him, and why did she order priestess Lucie to protect him.

Searching deep in his memories, Martin felt an electric shock running through him, from his Magic core up to his brain, out of the blue he lost his grip on his sword, falling from his hand, he then placed his hands atop his head and started to scream in pain and agony.

He felt that his brain was going to explode, and his head was going to split in half, his screams made the birds nesting in the trees flee in fear.

Seeing this, priestess Lucie hurriedly approached Martin asking, "What's wrong, what happened to you all of a sudden?"

Martin slowly tilted his head towards her and locked his eyes with hers, but this time Martin was different, there was a weird mark in his eyes, it could be seen clearly, having a purple color in Martin's white eyes.

The screams got even louder, clearly, the pain was getting worse, as he screamed color drained from priestess Lucie's face.

The ground started trembling violently, the more Martin screamed, making her fall off balance yet again, all she could do was stare at the scene unfolding in front of her in pure terror.

Capital City Ralors:

Back in the capital city Ralors, the people were in a panic, trying to save themselves, and their loved ones from this earthquake, the city was full of screams.

"Quick get out of here, the roof will collapse!!"

"Help, someone help, I'm stuck!!"

"Mom, where are you, Mom!!"

"Be careful, get away from the building, it will collapse!!"

"Sam, Sam, where are you, has anyone seen my child?!!"

The earthquake lasted 25 long seconds, and with every second ticked, it took tens of lives of people, after that the earthquake was known as, (The Great Earthquake).

The marks that appeared in Martin's eyes were called the {immortality Insignia}, this Insignia is known because of its wielder, back when Martin was the overlord of the world, he was distinguished by this Insignia that was carved in his eyes in the same purple color.

This mark appeared whenever, Martin or Immorious back in his last life, appeared when he used his true power.

This time even though Martin is in a human form, the Insignia appeared in his eyes, because he tapped into his sealed memories, causing a backlash, and making him lose control.
