Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Fall

Boston, the city of champions, was awash with the vibrant hues of fall as October settled in. The historic streets of the city bustled with activity, as people reveled in the crisp, cool days after a hot summer. Little did they know that their lives would change forever.

It started innocuously enough, in the shadowy corners of Boston Common. A mysterious, slow-moving figure emerged from the darkness, its gait awkward, its eyes vacant. An unsuspecting couple, enjoying a late-night walk under the harvest moon, was the first to encounter the creature. With a guttural moan, it lunged at them, tearing into the man's flesh with a ferocity that defied human nature. The woman, paralyzed with fear, could only watch as her partner succumbed to the savage attack.

As the sun began to rise, painting the autumn leaves in a golden light, the city awoke to the first whispers of the nightmare unfolding in its heart. The news stations scrambled to cover the chaos that had erupted overnight.

"Good morning, Boston. I'm Lisa O'Connor, and this is WBZ News at 6 AM," the anchor began, her voice trembling slightly. "We have breaking news coming in from Boston Common. Reports of multiple violent attacks have been confirmed by the Boston Police Department. Witnesses describe the attackers as... disoriented and aggressive individuals."

Tom Reynolds, her co-anchor, leaned in, his face a mask of concern. "Lisa, this is unlike anything we've seen before. The descriptions... they're almost unbelievable."

Lisa nodded, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and determination. "You're right, Tom. It's hard to comprehend. But the reports are consistent, and they're coming in from all over the city."

Tom turned to the camera, his voice steady despite the chaos unfolding around them. "We have our field reporter, Kevin Davis, on the scene. Kevin, can you give us a firsthand account of what's happening?"

The camera cut to Kevin, his face pale and his eyes wide with shock. "Thank you, Tom and Lisa. I'm here at Boston Common, where a terrifying scene has unfolded. The area is swarming with police officers and emergency personnel, and from what I've gathered, these attackers are unlike anything we've seen before. They're unresponsive, and they seem to have no regard for their own safety. The police are urging everyone to stay indoors and avoid contact with these individuals."

Back in the studio, Lisa and Tom exchanged a glance, the gravity of the situation sinking in. "Thank you, Kevin. Stay safe out there," Lisa said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Boston, we urge you to heed the police's advice. Stay indoors, stay safe. We will continue to bring you updates as we receive them."

As the world watched in horror, the ominous tolling of the Old North Church bell seemed to signal the end of an era. Hopelessness gripped the city, and the once-vibrant metropolis stood on the brink of collapse.

But even in the darkest moments, a flicker of light can emerge—a beacon of hope, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. For some, the nightmare that had descended upon Boston would become a crucible, forging them into heroes who would fight to save their city and their world from the horrors that had been unleashed.
