Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - Lovely teacher

In the vice-principal's office, Sylph stood before the bald old man. "What have observed until now?" The principal asked with a kind smile, his eyes closed.

"He clearly shows symptoms of having lost his memory, he looked surprised when he first saw a goblin. Just a mere goblin made him interested, as if having discovered something precious. He however shows some strange behavior like being unfazed by pain." Sylph omitted the part where Dante was unfazed by blood, corpses and the atrocious acts of the goblin. Even going to killing 2 of them in cold blood.

"He is as he looks show, weak. He couldn't parry the attack of a goblin, even getting injured in the leg. He seems to be adapting pretty fast."

The vice principal's smile slowly disappeared when she talked about the abnormalities. "Thank you for your hard work. You will get a merit point, just go ask the secretary. Observe him for a few more days, I'm gonna make him attend the same classes as you for closer observation. You can leave."

Sylph silently looked at him before standing up and leaving. She didn't know why she lied to him, but she had a hunch that this shouldn't be disclosed for now.

On her way to class, she encountered Dante, this place was off-limit for students. So it only meant that he was lost.

She walked up to him and with an expressionless, asked him, "Follow me to class, it has been agreed that you will participate in the same classes as me. As you haven't memorized this place yet, i will come to get you in the morning."

Dante saw her walk away and followed suit, before long, they arrived in front of an open door. When they entered, he could see already seated young students. There were rows upon rows of seats in a semicircle facing the board, where he presumed the teacher could hold demonstrations and lessons. He could count about a two hundred students.

They were all looking at him with surprised eyes, he assumed that it was because of Sylph. A student had the same reaction. What was so unique about her..?

Sylph didn't care about the gazes as she made her way toward the back of the classroom, where some seats were empty. They were empty because most students want to be able to listen to the teacher.

'Better stick with her for now, she is the most likely to answer my questions. She must be some big shot as everyone is surprised by the mere presence of another student next to her' I thought.

After about a few minutes, I could teacher enter the classroom. She had deep purple hairs and eyes… This world really has a thing for disparity…

"Good morning students, welcome to the Magic Theory class. My name is Iris and i'm gonna teach you the theory behind magic." She then sighed, clearly annoyed by the fact that she was here.

The students saw that too so, they made extra sure to not piss her off. "Just so you know, I can expel any disobeying student. I hav-" "You can't expel us, you're just a teacher!" Before she could finish her sentence, a student cut her off.

This student was the typical guinea pig, the one who was always sacrificed to show an example.

The students seeing the teacher was quiet, smirked as if having won. 'He may have been of a high standing, can't blame these poor fools, they 've been fed power and praise their whole lives.'

Before he could make any other assumptions of what was gonna happen now, he heard the sound of someone trying to breathe under choke.

The student from before was now hanging midair with his hands around his throat. The teacher looked sternly at him, "Every year I have to do this shit, cut me some crap already."

The young boy was then violently thrown toward the door, before he could reach it, space distorted, and he just disappeared into thin air.

"Maybe I should kill a student every year to show that status doesn't matter in this academy." A wide smile appeared on her face, which made her look sinister. This sent shivers in the back of every student, thinking about what would happen to them.

Dante on the other hand had a different thought, 'If she can kill a student, without caring about the status of the person, then that means that the academy holds extreme power.'

'The rich could just pay for a private instructor for their kids. Which means that they've sent their kids her in the hopes of making connections.'

The teacher resumed her speech, "Like I was saying, in this class I will teach you the theory behind magic. You cannot use magic without knowing the science behind. Magic is like maths, if you know the formula, then you can do everything with a bit of thinking."

"Magic is just mana in the air, which changes by the will of the caster. However, this mana can only change if you influence it with yours." Just as she said that, a human silhouette appeared in the air. It was red while the surrounding air was blue.

"To change the status of the mana in the air, you have to have a 'catalyst', your mana. You have to thus make your mana flow outside."

The red silhouette's mana sipped into the hair and seemed to contaminate the blue mana. Then, ice appeared out of thin air, where the red mana had contaminated the blue one.

"However, your mana comes back to you after a long time. It's like an all range magnet but with a weak strength. So I hope all of you know the basics but, let me explain it to you. You don't have infinite mana in your 'core', where the mana is stocked. The quality of the mana also has a role in casting a spell."

Another red silhouette appeared, this time it was pale red. Both of them cast the same spell again, this time, however. The silhouette with redder mana cast an ice spear while the other one did the same, yet the latter's was frailer. As if it would crumble at anytime.

"Now comes the affinities, if you have an affinity for an element. It is easier to manipulate it etc. This is why swordsman exist, it would be easier to just cast a wall of flames and then cast spells from above, incapacitating the person. However, it's not my job to teach you that."

Dante looked bored, knowing all this from reading novels, he was dying of boredom. He was thus almost sleeping with his head in his arms. The teacher looked at him and just smiled.

On the other hand, when a student did the same, he would be awakened by a heavy ice cube falling on his desk. He would then have to hold it and then bring it to the teacher all the way up to the front of the class.

Everyone felt a sense of injustice..
