Chapter 38 - Drained Victory

As the commentator's voice echoes through the arena, announcing Kai's sixth consecutive win, a mixture of awe and disbelief fills the air.

The crowd erupts into thunderous applause, acknowledging the young fighter's remarkable achievement. Kai, however, stands on the stage, his body soaked in sweat, his mind clouded with uncertainty.

Kai's weary eyes look around the arena, absorbing the cheers and applause.

But as the realization of his victory sinks in, he can't help but question his next move. Thoughts swirl in his mind like a turbulent storm, each one demanding his attention.

"Should I continue?" Kai wonders, his voice barely a whisper in the cacophony of the crowd.

"I feel drained, and pushing myself further could have dire consequences. My friends should be able to handle the upcoming fights. I've already overcome the greatest worry of facing Silas."

Just as Kai contemplates his decision, a sudden notification materializes before his eyes, stubbornly demanding his attention.

Despite his attempts to ignore it, its presence persists, urging him to read its urgent message.

[Warning: Your Health has significantly declined]

[It is recommended for the host to take rest as soon as possible]

[It can cause fatal damage to the host]

[You have been poisoned]

[Its effect has only diminished a little]

[It is recommended to take care of it quickly]

Kai's heart skips a beat as he reads the notification.

The poison's lingering effect from Silas's vicious attacks still courses through his veins, even though he possesses the Poison Resistance skill. The severity of Silas's poison becomes evident, confirming his doubts about continuing.

Just as Kai grapples with his decision, the commentator's voice pierces through his thoughts, pulling him back to the present moment.

"And now, the question everyone is waiting for," the commentator announces with a hint of anticipation in his voice. "Will Kai choose to continue his extraordinary streak? Or will he withdraw, leaving the stage for other talented fighters?"

Kai takes a deep breath, his voice steady as he addresses the commentator. "I wish to withdraw from the match now," he declares.

A murmur of surprise sweeps through the audience as Kai's decision echoes through the arena. The commentator's voice booms once again, resonating with admiration.

"Kai has chosen to step down. But fear not, for the Dragon Academy has more talented fighters to showcase. Let's see how the next battle unfolds!"

As Kai descends from the stage, the weight of his decision lifts from his shoulders. He approaches Master Liang, his friends gathering around him with concern etched on their faces.

"How are you feeling, Kai?" Master Liang asks, his voice filled with genuine care.

"Your injuries need attention. Head to the infirmary. They'll tend to your wounds and make sure the poison hasn't taken a toll."

Kai nods, gratitude shining in his eyes.

With good wishes exchanged, Kai makes his way toward the infirmary, his steps weighted with exhaustion and the remnants of his fierce battle.

As he enters the sterile confines of the medical ward, a doctor greets him with concern.

"I watched your fight," the doctor says, assessing Kai's condition. "Quickly, lay down on the bed. Your injuries are still bleeding, and there may be traces of the poison. We need to tend to you."

Following the doctor's instructions, Kai gingerly lays down on the bed. The moment he settles, exhaustion overcomes him, and he succumbs to the embrace of unconsciousness.

Concern etches across the doctor's face as he hurriedly checks Kai's vital signs, relieved to find him merely unconscious.

Time passes, and Kai gradually awakens from his slumber.

His eyes flutter open, taking in the unfamiliar ceiling above him.

A jolt of pain shoots through his body as he attempts to rise, and he notices the bandages that adorn his wounds. Memories of arriving at the infirmary flood back, but the events that follow remain a hazy void.

The door creaks open, and the doctor enters, his expression a mix of relief and concern. He approaches Kai and gently asks, "How are you feeling now?"

Attempting to rise, Kai winces in pain, but the doctor quickly intervenes.

"No need to get up just yet. Your injuries may open up, and you've lost some blood. Take your time and rest. But I'm glad to see you conscious again."

Relieved, Kai settles back onto the bed, his curiosity piqued. "Thank you, sir. But I don't remember what happened after I arrived here in the infirmary. Can you fill me in?"

The doctor sighs, preparing to recount the events.

"Of course, let me explain. After you arrived at the infirmary, I instructed you to lay down. But suddenly, you lost consciousness. Concerned, I treated your wounds and monitored your condition. The poison may still be in your blood, so be cautious. If you feel any discomfort, come back to me immediately."

Just as the doctor finishes speaking, Kai's friends enter the infirmary, their worried expressions turning into smiles of relief as they see him awake.

They gather around him, peppering him with questions about his well-being.

Kai reassures them, gratitude shining in his eyes. "I'm feeling better now, thanks to the doctor's care. But what happened to the competition?"
