Chapter Seventeen
She shifted the curtain like it was a sin to even touch it and her heart thumped: Oh God, what are they discussing? What is King asking him? Have mercy, Lord!
King looked toward her window and faced Jackson again, talking with him, his eyes, shooting at her apartment from time to time.
"Come here," she grabbed Jackson's collar," what were you discussing with King," she queried him as he came in.
He smiled his muffled smile.
"Jackson, I will land you a slap. What were you discussing with King?"
"Nothing, he said I de try," Jackson responded.
"You de try, was that all?"
He shook his head.
"Jackson, don't annoy me, what were you people discussing?"
"He asked me where I de come from"
"Ehn, you said what?"
Jackson paused.
"Jackson! You can't remember what you answered?"
"I told him I de come from far away but madam said any day if I no fit go I can sleep here."
"Jackson… where…where…which madam?" She was mad at him.
