Chapter 1 - 1: Daphne's POV

"Why you?" he growled, and for a second, I was sure he was going to hit me. I swallowed nervously, stepping back instinctively. I have dreamt about my mate, for Luna knows how long. But in all those dreams, it was never this. I have never imagined this arrogant, sadistic, mountain of a man glaring down at me like I am a scum or something disgusting he can't wait to get rid of.

"Not up to your standards, oh mighty Alpha?" I spat venomously, with a scowl of my own in place. To be fair, I am not exactly a catch. Apart from the fact that I am a scrawny little thing, I am Omega by birth. My rank is the minor breed of lowly werewolves who are normally looked down upon and abused because of our frail forms. But I am different. In a way, that is. First, I am an Alpha's daughter. I know it's unnatural for an Alpha to breed an Omega, but, here I am. Living and walking proof that it is indeed possible. And secondly, I am no meek, abuse-me-type of an Omega. My father raised me to hold my ground. To fight if need be, and to never be afraid to speak my mind. Of course, many find this trait annoying in an Omega, but I have never really cared what they thought because I was under my father's protection. But not for long, it seems.

I have found my mate, and he is none other than the notoriously pretentious Alpha Kieran Robinson. His name only brings fear to almost everyone all over the kingdom. He has one of the most powerful packs. Stronger than even my father's. This means I am screwed, in other words. Unless, of course, I can somehow get the damn tyrant to reject me and leave me with my pack.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" I goaded, holding his gaze in a challenge.

"Daph…" My mother jabbed my ribs before switching to our private mind link, 'Stop it! He might do something nasty to you.'

'I want him to try,' I growled low in my throat, making my mate's gaze flicker between my mother and me. It was no secret we were having a heated mind link. And as usual, I had the last word, triumphantly.

I can confidently say that where my strength fails, I make up for it with my sharp mouth. No one, I have ever encountered, who hasn't respected this mouth of mine.

"Go and pack." Alpha Kieran barked, speaking for the first time since our wolves recognized each other as mates. "We are leaving before nightfall."

"What?" I screeched, bewildered by his statement. Nightfall was just like two hours away. I haven't even told my friends or some of my family that I have found my mate. "I can't," I muttered. "I haven't…"

"You have no choice, little one." He smirked, zeroing his cold gaze on my face as if he were daring me.

And who am I? Yeap. As you expected, I tried fighting him, but it was futile. Our customs clearly state that the dominant mate gets the upper hand in the relationship. This means that the bastard will forever decide what will happen in my life unless I kill him, of course. Don't get me wrong, I knew I would have to obey my mate and answer to them, but I just assumed he would be someone less insufferable. Someone I can negotiate with at least. Something Alpha Kieran is not known for.

I turned on my heels with a childish stomp and headed directly to my room. I didn't know what to pack under such short notice, considering the tons of things that I own. There was a light tapping at my bedroom door before I scented them.

"Go away," I grumbled. But they opened the door anyway.

"Sweetheart," My Papa called, stepping towards me. He stood just a few meters away with a heavy look in his eyes. "You know we love you."

"Yeah, so much that you are giving me away to that tyrant without a fight." I scoffed, turning my back to him.

"Who knows what he will do if we refuse?" Papa asked mostly to himself. "You know, if it was just your mama and me in question, I wouldn't let you go." He explained regrettably, making me sigh. I knew he was afraid that fighting with Kieran might put our pack at risk. We are no match.

"I know," I admitted, turning to face my parents again. "I will miss you." I couldn't conceal the slight tremor in my voice. Papa pulled me and mama into his hands and hugged us tightly to each other.

"Why didn't I know there was a family hug scheduled?" We heard my twin brother and the only sibling I have grunt by the door. The one that I supposedly gave all my strength to when we were in the womb. The Alpha to be. He is at least 6.2 inches and I just had to get 5.5.

"No one can stand your stink." I retorted with a smile. He and his age mates had gone hunting in preparation for his coronation and now that I think about it, I won't be attending. He stalked towards me, and I took an instinctive step back. I knew what he would do when he got hold of me, and I was in no mood for his childish antics. But he got to me anyway.

He hugged me to him tightly, right before lifting me off my feet, and twirled me around just like I had expected. There was no way I couldn't laugh. It has been our thing since we could barely walk. Him hoisting me up and I, always, clutching onto him tightly. When he put me back on my feet, Carson kissed my forehead before bumping his against mine.

"I will miss you, squirt." He groaned like he was in pain, squeezing his eyes shut. If I am not imagining it, I think his eyes had become suspiciously bright.

"I will miss you too, giant." I breathed, clasping his hand a little too tight. He didn't seem to mind the discomfort.

"If that asshole ever hurts you…" He began, but I interrupted him with a scoff.

"You think I would let him hurt me?"

"Of course not," he chuckled, and so did our parents. "Go show him what we Roberts are made of," Carson added in a conspiracy. It was my turn to laugh. I made my brother promise that he will take care of our parents. They all volunteered to pack for me, to give me time to go bid goodbyes to my friends
