Indy and Oregon stood up, they were in a frigid tundra as they looked around and saw nothing but snow and conifer trees thick with needles. Howls were heard in the distance as Sal shivered. "I haven't been this cold ever. But this feels like home."
Angel wrapped her wings around most of her torso as the wind whistled in on them. "T-too cold." She looked into her side bag and wondered if there were any other layers to be wrapped on.
"Oregon. Did you pack any incendiary rounds?" Sal looked at the density of the trees. They were close together. The howling slowly approached as he readied his rifle. Nudging Angel to prepare as well.
"Yes, want me to load them?" Oregon tapped the magazine on her chest belt.
"No, you and Indy need to take down those trees and push them together. The trees all being around each other in this close of density means that once we light it ablaze we should have plenty of heat for our ace." Sal rested a hand on Angel. "Just focus on keeping me safe till the two of them can help."
"Got it." Her wings fluttered as the snow fell from them, the wolves started coming made of void as she couldn't use her ability to gain off of them. Staying only a few steps ahead of Sal meant if even one of the wolves leaked through it was over for all of them.
Indy worked on the treeline as it was set up as described. A large pile of trees all clumped into one area. "Oregon, dump the mag!" He shouted as he looked around. Where did she sneak off to? "Oregon!" Indy shouted as he couldn't see her, something else slipped into the simulation. A flash of orange went skyward as the incendiary rounds were left on the ground.
"System alert for beacon team orange, Oregon has suffered major injuries." Shiro looked at the simulation as it was going to attack Indy.
"Angel save Indy!" Sal started to full auto against the wolves rather than just single shot and be accurate.
"But what about you?" Angel asked as frost formed from her breath.
"If he gets pulled out we lose. GO!" Sal gave a small push as she bolted without a sound. He pulled a molotov grenade from his back pocket and threw it at his feet while backpedaling. The fire absorbed the area and the void backed up for a moment before going around. Holding his rifle in his right hand he threw two more grenades to make a two laned funnel.
The creature looked like a giant man as it swung its arm down onto Indy, being blocked by a blitzing Angel. "Help Sal." She spoke as she started slicing at the void walker as it resisted her slashes.
Indy grabbed the incendiary mag and put it in his marksman rifle as he fired and lit the logs ablaze standing next to Sal and covering the other half of the pathing made by Sal. These wolves were relentless, a nonstop movement of smoke and ash.
Angel felt like something was off about this creature as it resisted the weapons she was using. Her spear with the enhancement to counter void seemed like a fickle thing. The creature leaned over as Angel was catching her breath. "Boo." It spoke as Angel pulled up Astral's rifle and unloaded the magazine into it as it fell to the ground and vanished. She started to hyperventilate and panic. Passing out from stress as the sun slowly started to set and the wolves stopped attacking.
"What happened?" Sal and Indy both looked at Angel as she was passed out. "She is clammy, a cold sweat in this climate can't be good." Indy leaned her up and wrapped her in a blanket to warm her up more and absorb the sweat.
"That creature was faster than me" Indy held her up as the fire itself was keeping the group warm.
"She used Astral's rifle with those new fancy rounds." Sal saw the no casing on the ground. Looking around he picked apart what happened. "It wasn't a designed void creature, it was a true enemy of Astral that slipped in here."
"The wolves weren't anything special and were easily killed. I believe that otherwise Oregon would become a liability on the battlefield." Indy looked over as Angel wrapped herself and her wings around him. Grumbling was all that was heard.
Sal looked around into the treeline and grabbed his hatchet. "I will feed this fire more, you make sure she wakes up." Indy nodded in agreeance, without her they both would have a very large likelihood to turn into Oregon.
"What are these wounds from?" Anders looked at Oregon as the skin around the slices were gray. She used the gas canisters and started the process of stitching up her wounds. After the stitches the wounds wouldn't stop oozing a black smoke. "Void attacks?" Anders moved the dome light over a cut and flashed it. Searing the smoke as the stitches stopped oozing the smoke.
Angel nested herself comfortably in Indy's arms as she looked up and opened her eyes. "What demons exist inside of your mind?" Indy found the question strange and bizarre as he looked down and had a second to worry less about her being unhealthy.
His mind raced for a moment as she just used the wrong word. "It could be similar to yours, all that dark little voice tells me is to not care for my family and to let them live their own life. I always lean away from that, the power of family and friendship is a much stronger driving force than any other human reason." He took an easy and relaxed breath as timber fell around them.
"As human as it could be to fear one's surroundings and what the world is. Let the ones around you be your hope. That is what crushes those demons." Indy looked down at her as she was passed out and at ease. Sal sat down next to him and showed him the map and what was happening. Already having the movements in place to win this thing.
Quietly he leaned over. "With Airsoft on the table to be claimed, we make the march tomorrow to get to him. After that." Sal pointed to Angel. "We let the wonderchild loose." Indy nodded. Sal started plotting the routes for the two of them as their marker shown above them.
A small note dropped from above. Indy caught it and read it. "Ander's handwriting?" Indy sped through it as his brain processed it. "Oregon will be able to hold on, but her wounds are acting weirdly and require Astral's abilities to fully cure, your teammate is stable. Go win!" Indy had a soft chuckle. "The last part is written by Oregon. You think it's possible?"
Shiro popped down next to Sal. "If we fire a beacon convergence flare over the three, and protect them like me, then they get added, if not, their scores are minused from ours."
"We tried to balance it out so it wasn't a large megateam just dominating." Shiro vanished as her words lingered. They slowly mentally prepared for the odds of this actually happening. Realizing it would also require a trick or two from Airsoft.
