Chapter 234 - Subsequent Fall Part 60: Outskirts

Angel glanced up as she didn't recognize the cyan cat that approached her with the footsteps she thought was Astral. All it did was meow at her as she stayed wrapped up in her cocoon. She didn't want to embrace reality if she was to forget everything. The cat weaseled through the wings as it rested a paw on her nose as it faded away. She felt the fog stagnate for now, hoping that it would dissipate.

Her left eye glowed gold on the rim of her iris as a small chuck of Gold found its way to Angel, to try and save her at the request that was heard. All she could think of is to keep her mind filled with the good times that have happened and what will happen in the future once they win. Angel heard more footsteps as she kept herself covered in her wings.

James slowly approached her as he gently parted the wings between her face. She looked up to him with puffy eyes and the halo resting on her head instead of above it. She took a sharp breath as she didn't want to see her brother. "Hey, you will be fine, are you okay?" The wings clasped closed as James backed up within seconds.

Jaimie walked over slowly as she listened in on the front reports, it was finally too much for them to handle as the fronts slowly started to collapse. She sat next to Angel and lifted one wing up. "You can tell us what's wrong." Jaimie gently pulled her in as the left eye was foggy. The right having the golden ring protecting it.

"I won, but he put a spell on." She stumbled through her words as her wings opened up, burying her head into Jaimie's chest while Jaimie rubbed her back softly. Something moved near them as James kept his guard up. A lost squad of Tizzle elites found them and charged inward. "I can't remember things and its only getting worse." She wailed into her chest as Jaimie was shocked.

"Hey, we can get through this and after we can fix it. I could if we had more time, its more probable that your neurons are blocked in your brain by the spell than anything." Jaimie ruffled her hair a bit as Angel mellowed out a bit, the feathers on her head felt smooth as silk like her wings.

James dispatched the Tizzle squad within moments as he looked at their dead bodies, they stood no chance as he looked over at them. "Hey, I thought this barrier was impassable?" Jaimie looked up and nodded.

"There are weak spots in the barrier, and we could leave it if it became too much. But at this point, I think we need to slow down." Jaimie kept scratching Angel's head as her other arm rubbed her back, she needed to make sure she felt as comfortable as possible. The front reports were falling worse as the time passed, Zeta was the only one to hold on for their side. Proto and Omaha couldn't hold either. The only side that held firm was the clones.

"Hopefully we have enough time." Jaimie took a breath of relief as the three of them calmed down. She saw Astral ask for an update. "We are fine Astral." Jaimie just found the twins and hoisted James out of the ground as he was still functioning, just got saved in the nick of time by the distress call. "Achilles is pretty beat up but the twins are alive. Achilles is heading out of the city to the frontline, he will be patched up by the time he reaches the frontline." Jaimie cut herself off as something else happened in front of her.

Airsoft had seen the front reports as he was keeping strong on the frontline. As much as they were retreating, there wasn't much room for wiggle room. "HOLD THE LINE!" Airsoft's gun slinging ability from the old days felt such in form as he opened fire and didn't miss a single headshot as Alice stood on his weak side.

"Once Achilles comes back we can do it!" Alice yelled as her minigun was firing on all cylinders, the amount of dead aboard the ship was unruly, for each soldier they killed five took their place.

"Why wait?" Achilles stood behind them as he held his sniper by the stock. Looking out across the battlefield as he wanted to make a push deep into their frontline, mechs opened fire as the frontline of the enemy forces who were well armored finally were halted for a moment, having to crawl over bodies as Airsoft turned around.

"You look rough, which one did you run into?" Airsoft asked as Achilles rolled his eyes.

"I should say the same to you one arm. Nightmare got me good, but I pulled through, he is fighting Astral as we speak, so lets buy some more time." Achilles had a legion behind him ready to make a push. "We have five miles before we reach the city as a buffer from this point. We need to hold out longer if at all possible."

"WHO NEEDS HELP?" Airsoft shouted through their officer comms as Proto and Omaha were the first to reply.

"We are holding at the seven mile marker." Omaha spoke as she sliced open a charging Tizzle. "These fucks just aren't quitting!" She felt gassed as her voice trailed off.

"Our forces and patience is wearing thin, but we can hold it, I promise that." Proto spoke as a wave of gunfire was heard from his side. "Put pressure on that wound, you take the left side. I can distract them while you two fall back to the next line!"

Airsoft felt worried as they couldn't hold out forever. "AIRSOFT WE NEED YOU!" Carolina yelled as she finally heard the ask for help. "We are backed up to mile marker three and soon falling back to mile marker two, Minn is fighting with one arm gone and Nevada is bleeding heavily, HELP!" All that was heard after that was Zeta firing all of his turrets as gunfire came in hard from the other side.

"There's your answer, no go play hero and pray we do our job." Achilles smiled as the two looked at the clone map, several clusters and holdouts existed, but they were being attacked from almost all sides at this point.

'C'mon boys, you are the best we got.' Airsoft took off as he started sprinting. Pressing a button on his suit as it sprouted wings to get to the frontline as quickly as possible. All their goal was to holdout, and if they were that in need of help to save the barrier and buy Astral time, he needed to do more than his part. Airsoft landed on the frontline as he started opening fire with his pistol as they were at mile marker two.

"We can't afford to give them another inch." Airsoft spoke like he had much of a choice in the matter, they were just uncoordinated compared to the other fronts. "Squad C to the left more, spread out and fan yourselves, don't cluster up. Squad J, move more to the right, everyone fan away from Zeta outside of the Dogpound and funnel them to us. You got this big boy." Airsoft tapped the steel with his right arm as he struggled to lift it.
