Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Aldrin

I looked at the girl outside my tent. I wasn't going to let her enter. I didn't trust her one bit. Her looks wouldn't fool me. I closed the tent.

Back inside, I jumped into the bath. The effects started to take place immediately. I relaxed in the bath that fit me perfectly.

As I soaked, I contemplated my skills. Internal destruction was my most important skill, but it had one fatal flaw: it was extremely close-ranged. If I didn't make contact with the surface, my skill wouldn't take effect.

Quickstep was also an amazing skill, but it was only for quick bursts. It couldn't cover a long distance, meaning if I was far from my enemy or allies, I couldn't reach them.

Alert only worked when I was in danger, and there were skills that could negate it.

Boxing skill was just the effective use of essence in my hands for punching and blocking. By understanding this skill, I could use essence effectively throughout my body. But even this skill could be sealed.

All my skills were self-centred; they were for my survival. They weren't directed at helping or protecting anyone else. I had to change that somehow.

And lastly, Identify just identified things. I also needed to use it on attributes. I had a feeling it would help me understand how things worked.

Before I checked my status, I pondered what I needed to improve and how I could make my abilities more versatile and less reliant on close-range combat. Perhaps I needed new skills or to upgrade my existing ones.

I hadn't received an energy reward, suggesting level 5 wasn't the threshold. Watching my levels closely, I concluded level 10 was likely the next significant milestone. I decided to use Identify on Internal Destruction.

Internal Destruction: A skill focused on causing destruction of internal organs, tissues, or muscles. Energy required: Essence and spiritual energy.

So, Internal Destruction was a dual-energy skillthat damage internal organ. This explained why spiritual energy was my second-highest energy.

Empathy: A skill that connects to people's extreme emotions, but the user must be willing to listen to those emotions. The energy required: Spiritual energy.

The name "Empathy" gave its meaning away, but now I knew skills used different types of energy. Quick-Step used essence, Empathy used spiritual energy, and Internal Destruction used both.

Understanding the relationship between the body, heart, and cells was crucial. Essence was produced by the heart, composed of cells. Identifying these elements didn't clarify much for me, but I knew they were interconnected.

I wanted to identify core and mind but feared the consequences.

Health: 50

My eyes weren't fully healed, but I had to go save that girl. Exiting my tent, I saw an identical one beside mine. Sitting on the grass, I took in the night view, appreciating its beauty. I sent the intent to my tent, making it disappear, and a red stone appeared in my hand, never ceasing to amaze me.

I was ready to chase after the ogre when the sky brightened.

Alert, Alert

A bolt of blue lightning struck me, hitting my armour. I couldn't dodge it. It was lightning, after all.

I was sent flying, rolling, eating dirt, and crashing into a stone. Coughing, I pushed myself off the ground, taking a boxing stance with essence surrounding my hands.

I was ready, but nothing came. Looking around, I saw only pitch darkness. The moon didn't illuminate my position. Taking a deep breath, I felt the pain in my chest despite the armor's protection. Walking back to my original position, I wasn't in a rush.

I stood in front of a tall white man with black hair and blue eyes that illuminated the night. He looked at me with deep hatred. Everyone seemed to hate me. I could feel it even more now.

I identified him: Human- Level 34, Lightning Warrior.

He wore armour, including a chest plate, iron pants, and a helmet. His arm was covered too. How did everyone get such good armour? He looked back at me, holding a hammer in his right hand.

"Good night, sir. How may I help you?" I greeted him with the friendliest smile I could muster.

"Fuck your greeting, I came for vengeance," he said angrily, not giving me a chance to reply. He was right in front of me, swinging his hammer down. Using Quick Step, I dodged, but he was right where I had been.

Alert

Reflexively, I punched with Internal Destruction. He moved out of the way in a blur, lightning surrounding him. I couldn't track his movements. His hammer hit me with lightning from beneath. I protected myself with essence but was lifted off the ground and hit again. The bones in my hands were crushed, the pain excruciating, sending a shock through my spine. I screamed out.

Health: 20

He prepared for a powerful hit, lightning responding to his anger. Internal Destruction activated, and my hand collided with his hammer, white and red sparks illuminating the sky. Surprised, he moved out of the way. I struck him in the side with Internal Destruction. He looked at me sadly, coughing blood, staggering backward as his hammer dropped.

I was ready to explain, but his lightning-covered fist struck my chin. Alert could have protected me, but my hands were no good. My world became dizzy. I staggered, seeing double. I put up a weak defence, willing essence to cover my body.

He hit me repeatedly, left and right. I couldn't distinguish one from two. I dropped backward, blood leaking from my mouth, my eyes swollen, my jaw dislocated. I smiled at the turn of events, getting back up, with blood leaking from my mouth.

Health: 9

"I did not come this far to die," I told myself.

A dark energy surrounded my hand. Then the blonde girl interrupted.

"Stop, brother," she said. "He is not our enemy."

He looked at her in surprise. "I thought you were dead."

Turning back to me, he intended to finish me off, but she said, "He didn't kill them. It was Ray."

Another surprised look appeared on his face. "So why does he have on Ray's clothes?"

"I will explain that later," she said.

" and where is Cindy?" he asked, frustradedly

She held her head down. "She was taken by the ogre. It's too late."

He squeezed his hands, looking away. "I'm sorry, friend. Anger got the better of me. If you want revenge, ask Aldrin from the human kingdom."
