Chapter 33 - Broken Curse

"Hello, Sarah, I am worried," Isabella said anxiously into the phone. "It's been a week since Azazel left, and he hasn't been back."

From the other end, Sarah responded with a hint of frustration in her voice, "Isabella, remember that Azazel broke your heart. You shouldn't be worrying about him. Focus on healing yourself."

Isabella sighed, torn between her lingering emotions for Azazel and her friend's advice. She contemplated Sarah's words as she continued the conversation, still hoping for Azazel's return. However, her hopes were interrupted by a sudden sound from the front door. With a quick farewell, Isabella abruptly ended the call and hurried towards the living room, praying that Azazel had returned.

To her surprise, it was not Azazel standing there but Lucius, his dark hair falling effortlessly over his intense eyes. A smile formed on Isabella's lips as she welcomed him, thinking he was a messenger of Azazel's return. "Lucius! I'm so glad you're here. But Azazel is not here, I haven't seen him for a week now."

Returning her smile, Lucius stepped forward, his gaze fixed on her. However, as their eyes met, Isabella noticed a chilling transformation in his demeanor. A shiver crawled up her spine as fear coursed through her veins. She instinctively took a step back, her voice trembling as she asked, "W-What do you want from me, Lucius?"

A wicked laugh escaped Lucius's lips, his eyes gleaming with an unsettling malevolence. "Oh, Isabella, you have no idea," he sneered. "My father sent me here to stop the prophecy."

The blood drained from Isabella's face, her heart pounding in her chest. "Stop the prophecy? What prophecy?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lucius's laughter filled the room, echoing with a chilling malevolence. "Oh, Isabella, stop acting naïve. The prophecy foretells of a powerful being born to break the curse that has plagued Azazel for centuries. My father fears this prophecy, and he will do anything to prevent it from coming true."

Isabella's whole body quivered with a mix of fear, anger, and desperation. She couldn't believe the treachery that Lucius had revealed. Her voice quivered as she confronted him, "So, you never cared for Azazel. You only came to spy on us," she accused, her voice laced with both sadness and anger.

"Listen, Mortal," Lucius sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "I'm under no obligation to explain myself to you."

As he snapped his fingers, Isabella felt an invisible force pulling at her, lifting her off the ground. She dangled helplessly in the air, her tears streaming down her cheeks, her heart pounding with terror. Lucius brandished a mysterious knife, his intentions clear as he prepared to end her life.

But just as hope seemed lost, Azazel materialized out of nowhere, swiftly pushing Lucius back. The knife slipped from Lucius's grasp, clattering to the floor as he stumbled and fell heavily. Isabella's feet touched the ground once again, and she dropped to her knees, gasping for breath.

Her hands instinctively flew to her neck, her pendant shining brightly against her chest. She felt its warmth and the surge of energy that coursed through her. As Azazel enveloped her in a tight embrace, she clung to him, finding solace in his presence amidst the chaos.

Lucius, however, was not defeated. He rose from the floor, his laughter echoing through the room. "The god of thunder and Lightning falls in love with a mere mortal," Lucius sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "How pathetic. It seems even immortals are not immune to the folly of love."

Azazel's eyes narrowed, his fists clenched at his sides. "Love is not a weakness," he retorted, his voice laced with defiance. "It is a strength that mortals possess, a power that can transcend any curse or boundary."

Lucius laughed mockingly, his voice booming through the room. "Oh, how poetic," he scoffed. "But your words hold no weight against the reality of your situation. You have lost your power, Azazel. You are bound by the curse, forever diminished."

Azazel's anger flared, his resolve hardening. He refused to let Lucius belittle him or dismiss the depth of his emotions. With a surge of energy, he unleashed a bolt of lightning towards Lucius, his power crackling through the air.

But Lucius effortlessly deflected the attack, his own dark magic shielding him. He laughed triumphantly, relishing in his perceived superiority. "Is that all you have, Azazel? Your feeble attempts are futile. I will end you and the mortal girl you foolishly care for."

Azazel's eyes blazed with determination as he summoned his remaining strength. "You underestimate the power of love," he declared, his voice resonating with defiance. "And I will prove that even in my diminished state, I am still a force to be reckoned with."

The room became a battleground as Azazel and Lucius clashed, their powers colliding in a display of raw energy. Thunder roared, and lightning arced through the air, illuminating their fierce confrontation. Spells and blows were exchanged, each combatant pushing themselves to the limits.

But despite Azazel's unwavering resolve, the curse weighed heavily upon him. He could feel the limitations of his power, the frustrating boundaries that held him back. Lucius, on the other hand, reveled in his dominance, exploiting every opportunity to strike Azazel down.

As the battle raged on, Azazel's movements grew sluggish, his attacks weakening. Lucius seized the advantage, his dark magic overpowering Azazel's waning strength. Blow after blow landed, each one driving Azazel closer to the edge of defeat.

Isabella watched in anguish, her heart aching for Azazel's plight. Her hands clenched, desperately wishing she could do something to help. But she knew that this battle was Azazel's alone to fight.

Azazel gritted his teeth, his muscles straining with exertion. Despite the odds stacked against him, he refused to surrender. With a final surge of energy, he summoned the last remnants of his power, launching a desperate attack.

But it was not enough. Lucius deflected the blow effortlessly, his wicked smile widening. "Your feeble resistance ends here," he declared, his voice dripping with malice.

The room fell silent, the weight of impending defeat hanging heavily in the air. Azazel's breath was ragged, his body battered and bruised. He stared into the eyes of his adversary, his spirit unyielding.

But Isabella, driven by love and the instinct to protect, refused to let despair consume her. Her eyes caught sight of the fallen knife lying on the floor, abandoned by Lucius. With a surge of determination, she snatched it up, her trembling hand clutching the hilt tightly.

Summoning every ounce of strength within her, Isabella lunged forward, driving the knife into Lucius's chest. His wicked laughter abruptly ceased, replaced by a look of shock and disbelief. He crumpled to the floor, his form dissipating into nothingness.

Isabella's heart swelled with a mixture of relief and exhilaration. She wasted no time rushing to Azazel's side, pulling him into a tight and passionate embrace. In that moment, all the pain and heartache they had endured melted away, replaced by the warmth and love that enveloped them.

Their lips parted, and Azazel's eyes bore into Isabella's, filled with a newfound determination and vulnerability. His voice, filled with sincerity and remorse, trembled as he spoke his heartfelt confession. "I am sorry, Isabella," he murmured, his voice laced with deep regret. "I hurt you, and for that, I am truly sorry. These past few weeks have been torturous for me, realizing the depth of my feelings for you. I love you, Isabella, and I am willing to give up my immortality to be with you."

Isabella's heart skipped a beat at his words, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. She knew the significance of his sacrifice, the magnitude of his love for her. Overwhelmed with emotion, she pulled him into another kiss, pouring all her love and acceptance into that single act.

But as they kissed, a flicker of light caught their attention. They broke the kiss, their eyes drawn to the pendant that had fallen from Isabella's neck. Once a symbol of the curse that had haunted them, it now lay there, depleted of its energy, transformed into a worn and unremarkable object.

Isabella picked up the pendant, her fingers delicately tracing its faded contours. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips, her eyes gleaming with a mix of relief and happiness. "Azazel, look," she said, holding up the pendant for him to see. "The curse... it's gone. The pendant has lost its energy. Azazel are finally free."

Azazel's eyes widened in disbelief and hope flickered within them. "The curse... it's really gone?" he asked, his voice filled with a mixture of awe and anticipation.

Isabella nodded, her smile radiant. "Yes, Azazel. The pendant losing its energy is a sign that the curse has been broken. We can finally be together without any barriers or limitations."

Overwhelmed with emotions, Azazel pulled Isabella into a tight embrace, holding her as if he would never let go. "I can't believe it," he murmured, his voice trembling with a blend of joy and disbelief. "To be free of the curse, to have a chance at a life with you... it's more than I ever hoped for."
