Chapter 2 - CH 2: In the Presence of Humanity

"Your Majesty, Xi Ye… Are you serious?" Chris asked, repeatedly expressing his disbelief.

"In our current situation, let alone finding you a partner, surviving is a problem."

"That's my plan," Xi Ye replied.

It couldn't be his fault; who could have predicted this system suddenly appearing in his mind?

After taking a rough look, to put it simply, the more descendants he has, the more rewards he can receive.

Now, he was eager to know what reward awaited him.

Generally speaking, considering the arrogant nature of the giant dragon, it was nearly impossible for other races to inherit their bloodline.

But the nature of the giant dragon was just like that, resulting in a large number of dragon beasts.

"No… No, Your Majesty Xi Ye, which race do you want to find as a partner?" Chris sighed heavily.

Forget it, as long as His Majesty Xi Ye was happy.

At present, there were very few companions that His Majesty Xi Ye could find.

Anyway, His Majesty the monsters would definitely look down on them.

Having followed His Majesty Xi Ye for two years, Chris was well aware of His Majesty Xi Ye's preferences.

Even the most beautiful she-wolf from their werewolf clan wasn't able to catch His Majesty's attention.

"We'll discuss it when the time comes. We'll continue our journey tomorrow morning and rest tonight."

The pain was too severe.

Even if Xi Ye wanted to leave this dangerous zone as soon as possible, he couldn't do it.

He would surely seek revenge for this.

"I understand, Your Majesty Xi Ye. I will follow your wishes."

After Chris left Xi Ye's side, he encouraged the monsters in the cave once again.

"Do your job well."

The next day, when the first ray of morning light shone into the cave's entrance, Chris woke up first.

"Don't sleep, everyone! Wake up! Get ready to move!"

Chris instinctively raised his head to shield his eyes from the glaring sun.

He stood up and lightly kicked the nearby monsters with his feet.

The monsters awakened one by one, rising and grabbing their tattered stone axes and wooden shields.

Of course, there were a few who would never wake up.

Their injuries were too severe.

To have survived until last night was considered a miracle.

"Chief Chris, they are dead," a jackal reported.

"I see. Bury them. It is their honor to die for His Majesty. May their souls be summoned by King Grimsar!"

Chris clenched his right hand into a fist and placed it on his chest, offering a prayer for the fallen comrades.

This was a ritual among monsters.

Grimsar, the rumoured king of werewolves, although not present on this continent but the abyss, was the Lord of Werewolves.

He was the king in the hearts of most wolf type beast men.

(Note - There are many types of monsters tribes. Such as Chris's wolf Monster tribe, the goblin tribe and many more that will be introduced later on in the novel. )

After the death of a werewolves, as long as they possessed enough bravery and fearlessness when they died.

They could be summoned by Grimsar to become one of his people, be resurrected, and reborn under his leadership.

"That… Chief Chris, all the goblins are dead, and there are only four or five werewolves left," the werewolf reported the latest situation.

"Bury them too. I will report to His Majesty Xi Ye. You await His Majesty's orders."

Chris waved his hand, turned, and entered the cave.

"Have you heard what Chief Chris said? Hurry up and bury them!"

"Yes!"

The werewolves who were still capable swiftly picked up their axes and started digging.

The werewolf, who had lost his weapon, squatted down and dug a hole with his claws.

"Leave when you're ready."

Before Chris could enter, Xi Ye emerged from his cave.

After a night of self-recovery from his injuries, the dried blood on his body had already formed scabs and crusted over the wounds.

The wounded areas were adorned with immature dragon scales, growing rapidly like bamboo shoots after rain.

This was the transformation of a dragon, a testament to their remarkable regenerative abilities.

If Xi Ye had consumed some special potions for injury during the night he would be able replenish his strength, and his recovery would have been even faster.

"Your Majesty Xi Ye!" The monsters caught sight of their king and immediately knelt before him.

"Chris, let's depart when you're ready. I have a feeling that wretched female red dragon will come after me again," Xi Ye expressed, a lingering sense of danger in his heart.

He believed that the female red dragon was none other than the one who invaded his territory, eventually defeating him.

Revenge was burning within him and he when he had the chance he would surely act upon it.

"Yes, Your Majesty Xi Ye." Chris promptly waved his hand. "Boys, let's move with greater haste!"

"Yes, Chief Chris!" The werewolves quickened their pace, leaving no room for delay.

In the blink of an eye, the fallen comrades were buried, and Xi Ye lightly flapped his massive dragon wings, creating a small hurricane as his 25-meter-long crimson wings spread wide.

With a staggering motion, the colossal body took flight.

Finally, after an entire night, Xi Ye was able to soar once more.

This had been his first defeat since leaving his lair, a reminder that he wasn't invincible even if he was a red dragon.

As Xi Ye led the monsters away from the mountain range, they arrived at an unfamiliar plain.

The ominous feeling in his heart dissipated, and he gradually slowed their pace.

The jackals, running on the ground, noticed their king's deceleration and took a moment to catch their breath.

Exhaustion had taken its toll on them.

Xi Ye, despite not feeling weary himself, understood the predicament his subordinates faced.

He couldn't afford to lose any more of them.

During that battle with the opposing female dragon she had decimated most of his monster subordinates.

What he had to do know was to allow the monsters under his command gather strength and settle elsewhere so he can recruit more monsters under his command.

"Stop," he commanded.

Boom~

Xi Ye descended with a gentle landing, granting the monsters a chance to rest.

He contemplated their dire circumstances. Surviving in this dangerous zone was their priority.

"I smell humans, Your Majesty Xi Ye," Chris spoke up.

Xi Ye's eyes narrowed as his full attention was placed on Chris's words.
