Chapter 197 - Seth

In a completely white, space-like void, Seth is floating in the center with his eyes closed.

"What?"

Seth opens his eyes, and when he looks around, he sees many blue sparkles scattered across the white void.

"Where am I now? Kage! Unknown! Alexander! Jason! Is anyone there?" Seth screams, but all he can hear are his echoes.

Seth starts to look around frantically with a confused expression on his face. Seth looks at his body and notices that all his injuries from all his battles are gone.

"Well, that's good, but why are my injuries gone? Is this some type of trick from someone's power?" Seth asks in a confused tone.

Seth looks at one of the blue sparkles surrounding him and grabs one with his left hand.

Suddenly Seth gets sucked into the blue sparkle.

"Whoa!" Seth yelps as he gets sucked in.

When Seth opens his eyes again, he sees he's in a hospital room.

"Ok, this has officially gotten weird."

"Wah-wah!"

After hearing loud crying, Seth looks to the right and sees a woman in a hospital bed holding a baby and a man standing next to her.

"Mom? Dad?" Seth says reluctantly.

Even with his words, no one responded to Seth.

"Oh come on, this has to be a hallucination, right?" Seth asks with a small, nervous chuckle.

Seth walks up next to the hospital bed and sees his mother, Rena, holding a baby.

"Is that me?" Seth asks as his voice trembles.

"I'm glad we already thought of a name. Welcome to the world, Seth; you'll be amazing," Rena remarks.

"Wah-wah!"

As the crying got louder, the room around Seth shifted, causing everything to disappear.

When Seth opens his eyes again, he sees that he is in his old bowling room.

"Wait, I know this day. It's the day before Mom died," Seth thinks as he looks over to his younger self walking to his mom.

"My little Seth, you're just on top of the world. When you grow older, you'll be just like your father, the most important person on the planet," Rena stated in confidence.

"Really!" little Seth yelled in excitement.

"Yes, of course, Mom wouldn't lie to you."

"Mom," older Seth says in a sad tone.

After seeing this memory, the room shifted again, and Seth was outside on a great plain.

"Ok, now I'm outside! Come on, just end the weird hallucinations already!" Seth shouts.

Seth looks over to his left and sees a funeral taking place on a windy day.

"I have to see this day as well, huh? Mom's funeral," Seth says as he clenches his fist.

"Why are they putting dirt on Mom? She doesn't like to be in small, closed spaces," a younger Seth screams at a grave site worker as they bury Rena's casket.

"I was such a goddamn idiot back then," Seth says to himself.

Once again the background shifts, and Seth is now in a classroom.

"Huh? This is class six, isn't it?"

"Hey, do you know who I am? I am Seth, son of the richest person on the planet. I don't belong in this class!"

Seth looks over to where the voice is coming from and sees himself yelling at Mrs.Nova at the front of the classroom.

"Oh right, this is my first day at Grava Academy," Seth says with a smile.

"Listen up, you damn waste of time! You belong in this class because of your performance in the entrance exam. Be grateful you're in the upper class at all!" Mrs.Nova shouts at a younger Seth with a mean glare.

"Tch, whatever!" the younger Seth yells back as he takes a seat next to a girl.

"That lady is batshit crazy for thinking I belong in a class called Class Six. Absolute bullshit!"

As the younger Seth complains, the girl sitting next to him taps him on the shoulder.

"Umm, hi, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm Amelia."

As Amelia introduces herself, the younger Seth looks her up and down.

"Nah, got no idea who you are," Seth says in a snotty tone.

"Wow, Kage was right. I really was a mega douche," older Seth thinks to himself.

The room shifts once again, and Seth sees that he is at Grava Academy stadium.

"Whoa, now this is a big jump," Seth says from the stands.

When Seth looks down to the battlefield, he sees himself and Kage in battle.

"Wait, it's this battle out of all battles," Seth exclaims with a shocked expression.

"Nobody wants to hear your damn sob story! They want to hear what you became after, and you for sure showed me what you've become! Don't forget all that training you did just to be able to fight me and prove I'm some fake!" Kage screams at the past Seth with passion.

"There it is. Those are the words Kage said to me to finally wake me up from my darkness. It seems I can never get away from hearing this over and over again," Seth thinks to himself.

Suddenly everything around Seth starts to peel apart like stickers, revealing the void he was in earlier.

As the void continued to shine its bright light, Seth began to hear words from many different people.

"Hey, the name is Damion. I'm not so good at this but do you want to be friends."

"There's cake all over your face!" a young Alexander remarks.

"You're just amazing, Seth!" Amelia chants.

"I know you're faster than that! Do you know how many times we battled haul ass motherfucker!" Kage screams.

"I trust you, so trust me!" Unknown demands.

"I missed you, my son," Ronald says in a sad tone.

After remembering all of these moments in his life, Seth returns to the white void, where he is met by his mother, Rena, floating in space with him.

"Mom!" Seth screams with a conflicted expression on his face.

"I'm right here, Seth; you don't have to yell," Rena says as she giggles.

"Mom, what is this place? Where the hell are we, and why do I keep seeing all these memories?" Seth yells in a panicking tone.

"Calm down, Seth. You already know what's going on; it's time for us to go," Rena says in a nice tone.

"Oh, I see, so this really is it," Seth says as he calms down.

"Yes, we have both now reached the end of our lives; it is time to move onward toward the next life," Rena says as she looks up.

Seth clenches his fist with his eyes lost of any hope.

"So this is really it..."

Tears start to slide down Seth's face.

"But this can't be it. There's still so much to do, so many people to thank. I don't think I'm ready. I can't possibly go yet plus I'm scared out of my mind," Seth speaks as he trembles.

Rena floats over to Seth and wipes his tears.

"Have you learned nothing from all that yelling your friend Kage does? You're never alone, my dear Seth," Rena says in a soft, calm tone.

"Wait, you know about Kage?"

"Of course, I do; I know about all your friends. Like I said, you're never alone; Mom is always watching."

"But still"

Rena grabs Seth's hands as they shake.

"How about this: we go up together, just like I did for your first day of school and all your public speaking exercises," Rena says in a caring tone.

"That's embarrassing, Mom."

Seth finally stops shaking and looks up.

"Yeah, let's do that."

"Ok, then make sure to hold onto me tight," Rena says as she turns around.

"Wait, Mom, I have one more thing to do. I promise it won't take long!" Seth exclaims.

When Rena hears Seth's request, she smiles delicately.

"Of course, don't keep your old mother waiting now!"

At the ruins of Grava City tower, Kage, Unknown, and Alexander are surrounding Seth as Jason presses on Seth's chest in an attempt to manually get his blood pumping.

"Come on, Jason. I thought you said you were good at this! He's not waking up!" Kage screams in a panic.

"Kage, calm down; he's trying!" Unknown responds.

"Tch! I know it's just that..." Kage says with a conflicted expression.

"Hey, Alexander, can't you use your power to help him?" Jason asks as blood gets on his hands as he presses on Seth's chest.

"If I had enough OGi for that, don't you think I would have done it by now? Damn it! Come on, Seth, wake up, please," Alexander shouts as he falls to his knees.

"Guys, his pulse is getting weaker!" Unknown yells while checking Seth's pulse.

"Come on! Wake up already!" Kage yells as clear stress shows on his face.

As everyone panics, Seth finally opens his eyes.

"Seth!" everyone yells with relieved expressions.

With his vision blurry, Seth looks around at everyone, taking note of all their faces.

"Guys, I'm sorry," Seth says as he gurgles on blood.

"Fuck all of that apologizing; you're awake now! We can get you to Doc fast and fix you up!" Kage exclaims.

"Kage," Unknown says in a hesitant tone.

"Bro, what are you doing? Let's hurry up and haul him over to Doc before he passes out again," Kage says in an impatient tone.

"Kage! His pulse is still dropping fast!" Unknown yells back.

"What are you saying?" Kage asks hesitantly.

"It means he's awake, but he's still losing too much blood! We have no way to stabilize him out here! He's not going to make it," Jason says as he stops pumping Seth's chest.

"What the fuck are you two on about? Seth is fine we just need to get him to Doc! Just like Mr.Mink said!" Kage screams as he looks around frantically as nobody moves.

As everyone starts to come to terms with the situation, Alexander begins to cry over Seth.

"Seth I'm sorry! I didn't say it properly yet! Seth, I'm sorry for abandoning you when we were kids! I'm sorry for leaving you all alone when you needed me most! I'm sorry! I was supposed to be your friend, and I built hostility between us for nothing! I'm sorry!" Alexander shouts from the bottom of his heart.

As Alexander's tears begin to fall rampantly, Unknown and Jason begin to cry as well. Jason falls back, taking a seat on the ground.

"There goes another person I couldn't save, damn it! When does this cycle ever end?" Jason whispers.

Unknown softly places Seth's arm on the ground as he feels his emotions get the best of him.

"You didn't want to betray our trust so badly you let it come to this. I would have rather you ran; that's what I should've told you instead," Unknown says as he begins to break down.

"What are you all talking about? Why sit here crying when we can still save him, damn it!"

As Kage screams, tears begin to build up in his eyes, and he also falls to his knees.

"Come on, Seth, call me an upper-class fake like you always do! I know you're itching too," Kage says as he begins to cry.

With everyone crying around him, Seth begins to speak.

"I'm sorry for losing the dag—"

"Shut up about the goddamn dagger!" Kage shouts as he closes his eyes.

Seth looks over to Kage as he cries.

"I was lost within myself for so long. I was dictated by what others thought of me, so I was nothing but a pain to everyone around me, but you all changed that."

Everyone begins to listen attentively to what Seth is saying.

"Amelia, Damion, Unknown, even Alexander, but especially you, Kage. You all saved me from such a dark and grim future. I'll never forget—"

Seth coughs on his blood.

"Seth!" Kage screams as he rushes in closer to Seth."

As Seth sees Kage come closer, he looks down at his silver chain that says "Seth."

"I'm not the one who bought it; your mother bought it for you to give when you were old enough. It was going to be her present to you when you entered Grava Academy," Ronald echoes in Seth's head.

Seth grabs the chain on his neck and takes it off.

Seth slams the chain on Kage's chest.

"What are you doing?" Kage asks with a shaken-up expression.

"It's the last thing my mother left me before she died. It has her memory stored in it, and I wouldn't want anyone else to have it, so please try not to break it, Kage," Seth says as he leaves the silver chain in Kage's hands.

"What the hell do you mean you want me to have it?" Kage asks as he looks at the chain.

Kage gets up, and instantly Unknown jumps and holds him back from Seth.

"Kage, stop!"

"Don't give this to me; it's yours, not mine! I don't deserve it; take it back, damn it! Kage yells with tears filling his face.

"Kage, stop it! I know how you feel he does too!" Unknown exclaims as he cries.

"Then if he understands, then why won't he take it back? Seth, stop playing around; we just became friends; you can't die now! Not yet! We still have so many battles to have and so much more to do! Seth, please don't die! Don't leave me!" Kage screams as his voice cracks.

Seth listens to Kage's words and looks up to the sky.

"So that's how you feel. I'm glad we are on the same page," Seth says as he smiles widely.

Seth's heartbeat continues to get weaker and weaker until it gets to the point where it is not even detectable.

Kage clenches the chain in sadness-induced rage and then falls to the ground with a devastated look in his eyes.

"Don't die!"

With Kage's screams in the background, Seth imagines holding hands with his mother and floating upward as he takes his last breath.

"Thank you for being my friend, Kage."
