Chereads / Jobless Reincarnation of The Magic God / Chapter 3 - Monster Horde

Chapter 3 - Monster Horde

(Third-person POV)

Somewhere in the south of Wishe Forest, the Guard prepared for the attack of the horde of monsters heading to Wishe Forest fortress. They were all aware that the monster was heading to Wishe Forest when one of the scouts found a large number of monsters heading toward Wishe Forest.

When the head of the family of Wishe Forest heard about it, the guard advised him to call in reinforcements from Royal Alf Forest, but that was immediately denied because most likely the reinforcements arrived too late.

Captain: "When did Levos-sama come here with the reinforcement?"

Guard: "I received the latter from Levos-sama; he likely arrives today, captain!"

Captain: "What about the scout team? Have they come back yet?"

Guard: "Yes, sir! They said there were hundreds of monsters heading this way. There are goblins and kobolds, but the most dangerous one is the Dark Ogre, who holds a big tree trunk. That's all the scout found, sir!"

'This is bad. The most troubling thing for me is: how did the monster manage groups of hundreds without tearing each other apart? If we don't find the reason why the Wishe Forest will always be in danger,'

Then one of the guards burst into the room with a happy expression on his face.

Guard: "*panth*... Captain, we see Levos-sama come back with the reinforcement!"

'They finally came. At least I can breathe easily.'

Captain: "Open the gate, prepare to welcome them, and tell the scout to find any abnormalities and report any of their findings."

Guard: "Will do, sir!"

(Oberon POV)

We are now getting closer to the fortress. After we passed the south village, the people were in fear because of the news that a monster horde was heading their way, but thankfully, my father was reassuring them that all would be okay.

"Oberon, when we are inside, I am asking you to please don't do something rash and make sure to think carefully about your words."

"I understood, Father."

Then I heard one of the guards shout from our escort to the guard to open the gates. When we are inside, we are welcomed by the guard. There are not so many of them; I am guessing it's probably 24. They are made of archers, spearmen, and mages; most of them are archers.

"Welcome back, Levos-sama. Thank you for the reinforcement. We do need it."

I saw a yellow-haired male elf who held a magic staff. He looked so tired, probably because the stress he felt made him uneasy and made him unable to take a rest like most of the soldiers I saw.

"How's the situation?"

"If I may, before reporting the current situation, Levos-sama, who is that elven boy?"

He looked at me, so I started to introduce myself.

"Greating, my name is Oberon Aendryr Wishe."

((!!))

"I am sorry for being rude. That name means you are Levos-sama's son; am I wrong?"

Then my father answers that question. because he can see all the guards start murmuring about that revelation.

"Yes, he is my son. I brought him here to help us defend our home."

The captain and the other's expressions change from relief to frustration; probably he felt ashamed that Levos must bring his child to defend Wishe Forest.

"Levos-sama, is that too dangerous to let your only son fight on the frontline?"

"It's okay; my son is not an ordinary 10-year-old elven child; he already surpasses me in his ability in magic. He already manages to cast the magic that can qualify him to be the head of the Aendryr family."

((Woah!!!))

The Captain looks at me with admiration and surprise; he probably can't believe that such a young elf manages to master the most powerful magic that Wishe Forest has in its arsenal.

'I know Father tries to up the morale of the soldier, but I don't like this feeling; it's the same feeling that Paul made me feel; he put so much expectation on me... I had no choice but to give it my all.'

After a long meeting with the captain, everyone agreed to welcome them to the fortresses because it was advantageous for us and we had the high ground.

"Father, does the monster always behave like this?"

I started asking Father because I knew that he had the responsibility to protect Wishe Forest from any monsters and any illegal activity within its borders. He never told the story of a large monster rallying together.

"It's not rare that monsters group together, but not on this scale."

The guard added

"Yes, normally they do not touch a hundred in their number."

"I see."

'If that is so, that means there is a factor that causes such rare behavior.'

"Did the scout team see any weird things happen recently before this happened?"

"Hm... Ah yes, they said to me that there were explosions that happened days before the monster horde started to appear."

' I see now that I have some theory in my mind, but I need to prove it first. I don't want to cause any unnecessary panic among the people.'

"Oberon, did you figure something out?"

"Yes, Father, but I need to see the monsters first to make sure my theory is credible. I don't want to draw the wrong conclusion that only makes people start to panic."

The captain's and father's eyes widened because of my words, and my father started to smile.

"I understand, Oberon; we are going to execute the plan."

----

I am now standing at the watch tower and have seen hundreds of monsters heading this way with my father and the captain on my side while observing the monster's behavior closely with a telescope. I watch closely and see goblins, kobolds, and ogres. The ogre is 4 meters high, and he holds a rusted weapon. I can sense that monsters are the strongest of them all.

"My theory was right, Father; they are all running from something; they move too unorganizedly; there is a small chance somebody is controlling them."

"I see, that's what you think, Oberon. Then who and what makes the monster run?"

"Most likely, strong monsters or someone is attacking their territory, making them scared and start running. We need to investigate. If it is a person, we can warn him not to cause havoc if it is a monster... We need to defeat it; if we do not, this will happen again."

"I agree, son, but right now we must face the enemy in front of us first, Oberon. As planned, you must cast the opening attack spell."

"I understand, Father."

Then I am heading to the position. I am getting ready to chant the most powerful magic that my family has taught me.

'I can use my powerful magic, but there are too many eyes watching me, and I don't need to chant to cast my magic; they will probably get suspicious. Haaaa, well, I will cast the 'Dragon Breath. I will add more mana to it, making it more powerful.'

Then I laid my gaze on my father to say I was ready. He nodded, which means it's okay to start casting. I can hear the monsters roaring, and I can see the monsters sprinting forward.

((ROAR!))

"Fire of passion, Fire of desire Burn away all that does not serve. Ignite my will with your bright fire, and give me strength to manifest my dreams. Come to me, so I may lead you again, shining and bright…"

((Thud))

((Thud))

()ROAR!))

"Hear my plea, help me find A sign or a light to a doorway, Dragon Breath—my name is Wishe."

Then fire comes out of my palm and shines brightly like a small sun. I use the fire-like flamethrower to move right and left to annihilate every monster in front of me. Every guard watches; they are all in fear and admiration for my magic capability.

"Levos-sama, your son is indeed not an ordinary high-elf child. I never see such powerful magic."

"Yes, I know his capability already surpasses mine; he has good judgment too, and he is always eager to learn new things. That's why he always spends most of his free time in the library. Sadly, he is not so kind to be involved in politics and is not good with socializing."

"Oberon-sama can't avoid it anymore, and I am sure King Larfal will know about his capability."

"Yes, I know, but I had no choice; if my son doesn't help us, there will be some casualties, and I don't want such a thing to happen. Every soul of an elven man is valuable. Our race, unlike humans, can rapidly grow its population, but the elven race has many failures and needs some luck to manage to bear a child."

After I am sure there is no monster left to post any threat, I am canceling my spell.

"Fuuuh, I am done casting the spell. If there are any monsters left, please clean them up and make sure to be careful; the ground is still hot."

"We understood, Oberon-sama."

Then I headed to my father's side; he still observed the battlefield and looked at me, and he released a heavy sigh.

"Oberon, you are overdone with your magic. Our soldier still froze in fear."

I just showed him an awkward smile.

"I am sorry, Father. I just want to make sure no monster can pose any danger."

"For that, I can't argue with you."

"So, Father, can you find anything?"

"Sadly, no, I don't see any abnormality."

My theory was right; some things scare them off from their territory, and if we don't locate that threat, we will get caught off guard. I can't leave my homeland when there is a chance there is a monster that can pose a danger to my home.

"Father, can you let me investigate this case alone?"

"You know that I will not let you do that, do you? That means you have a good reason to want to do it alone, so can you let me know?"

"Yes, Father, there is a magic that I have that can help me do an investigation more quickly, but I can't cast it if there is someone there watching my action."

"Can you tell what magic you are talking about?"

"Sorry, Father, I can't tell right now, but in the future, I will."

"I understand. Please be careful. Just because you are strong doesn't mean that you can drop your guard so easily."

"I will put that in my mind, so Father, excuse me; I will be back soon."

After I tried to leave the fortress alone, some guards tried to follow me because they were worried. I said I already had the approval of my father to go alone, so they didn't have any choice but to obey my request. After I know there is nobody following me, I pull on the paper, summoning a magic circle. I know there is a high chance that I will encounter an enemy that can pose some threat to me, so I need somebody to protect me. Then I dig a hole, use earth magic, and make a room deep in the earth. Then I create an altar to start the summoning ritual.

'I need a strong servant that can protect me from any harm and have absolute loyalty to me. '

To make sure I summon useful servants, I need to make up my mind about what kind of servant I want. If I don't do that, it will become random; you don't know exactly what kind of servant you will get. Then I transfer my mana to the summoning circle.

"COME AND ANSWER MY CALL!"

Then a bright golden light starts to appear; it can blind anyone who tries to lay their gaze on it. After the light starts to fade, I can open my eyes and see the servant that I called.

"I have come to answer your call, my master."

What I see is a humanoid female figure bowing to me. She has white hair and blue eyes, and she has a horn on her head.

"Before we start the naming ritual, I want to ask several questions."

"I understand, master."

"First, are you a dragon? or other races that I don't know about."

"I am a fire spirit, Master; a dragon is the form of a corrupted fire spirit, so I am not one of them." "Second, are you confident enough that you can protect me from any harm?"

"Yes, I swear I will. There is a reason why I answered your call, Master."

"Lastly, can you hide yourself from any detection?"

I am not sure any elf seeing other races come into their kingdom will be pleased.

"Yes, I can hide from any detection magic and use illusion magic to change my looks, Master."

"Good now, I will give you a name as proof that you and I are bonded together."

"Thank you, master; I will make sure I am not disappointing you."

"I will bestow on you a worthy name. I will name you Orstrid."

Then I felt my mana get drained; almost half of it got taken.

"I thank you for the name you gave me, master. My name is Orstrid, and I will pledge my body and soul to you until the end of time."

"Good, I am counting on you now; there are some things that I want you to do. I want you to track and find any abnormalities in the area we are heading to."

"I understand, Master."

"Then let's head out."

----

Right now, I am flying using my gravity magic. With that spell, I can decrease my weight to the point where I can fly, and of course, Orstrid can fly; she can create a wing using her magic.

("Master, I found something: if we fly at the same speed for two clock durations of 10 minutes, you can see them.")

("I Understand")

Because we are contracted, she can use telepathy to speak to me. As she said, I can see three people: one with black cat ears; he is lying down unconscious; and the other has bear-like ears. I can sense he is strong; the other must be the woman, but she wears a black coat.

'A cat person and a Boaz race—what are they doing here?'

Then I use the blessing of sight from the goddess Ersehkigal. They have a neutral aura.

"Orstrid, make sure you are ready for anything and change your appearance to that of an elf. I don't want unnecessary panic or suspicion."

("Yes, Master, give me a few minutes.")

Then she used illusion magic to hide her horn and transform her ear into a long ear like an elf. When I descend from the sky, they realize my presence; Boaz already stands in front of the coated woman.

'Somehow I feel that coated girl's gaze makes me uncomfortable, like she is staring into my soul.'

"I am sorry to disturb you all, but I have a question for you about some things. I promise you, I will not harm you if you are not attacking me."

Then the Boaz man looks at the coated woman, murmuring something.

"Before we start, my lady wants to know your name and the lady behind you."

"My name is Oberon. The woman at my side's name is Orstrid, and you are?"

Before he answers once again, he looks at the woman and murmurs about something.

"My name is Ottar, and the cat person who laid there's name is Allen."

And before I ask the name of a covered woman, she starts walking forward and opens her hood. I see a gorgeous woman with white hair and purple eyes.

'If I called her beautiful, that would be an understatement; she is gorgeous... I am sorry, Sylphy.'

"Greetings, young elf, My name is 'Freya'. I am pleased to meet you."
