"What! Does that mean you can't cure Lisa either?"
Yuri's words made Captain Cold's heart sink to the bottom.
If they didn't remove the brain tumor, she would die sooner or later, and if they removed the brain tumor, she would die now, and no matter what, it wouldn't change the outcome of Lisa's death?
At this moment, Captain Cold's heart was broken, having managed to pick up a little hope, which had eventually been mercilessly dashed.
"When did I ever say I couldn't cure it?"
Yuri asked curiously as he looked at Captain Cold in wonder.
Captain Cold's dashed hopes lit up again with the last bit of candlelight, but he was now too afraid to act or think rashly for fear that this last candlelight was just his delusion.
"Do you ... you really ... really have a way to ... cure ... cure my sister?"
Captain Cold asked as if his tongue was in a knot.
"There have been some clues, but I can't be sure yet, and I need you to name some past events to testify to my suspicions." Yuri put his hands behind his back and paced back and forth in his chair as he droned on.
Captain Cold and the Weather Wizard's pupils flinched, they already knew what Yuri wanted to know.
"No problem, it's not a secret that must be hidden till death, so I'll tell you."
Captain Cold then made up his mind that no unspeakable secret was as important as Lisa's life.
—-—
The men then returned together to Lisa's hospital room, Yuri was riding in Wally's hands along the way.
At this point, the doctors and nurses who had gathered nearby were stunned and scared. The head doctor, in particular, was given a cold stare by Captain Cold as he passed by, almost making the guy have a heart attack on the spot.
These doctors knew full well that the brain tumour and Lisa had formed some sort of peculiar symbiotic relationship, unlike all previous cases of brain tumours.
Whether they could cure it or not, Captain Cold was furious with them for hiding the truth from him and lying to him that Lisa was just an ordinary brain tumour.
Once inside the ward, Captain Cold began to recount an incident from back in the day.
"Three years ago there was a big global event, an alien tyrant called Darkside invaded Earth, supposedly a new god or something, I'm not interested in that."
"That event facilitated the birth of an organisation that changed the entire world - the Justice League."
Captain Cold said briefly, it was known all over the world and there was no need to go into detail.
"There wasn't a normal person in the Justice League, they were as powerful as those written in comics or myths, they are literally gods walking on earth."
"And then Flash joined that Justice League, so I, who was still leading the Rogues at the time, felt a very great sense of crisis."
"If the Rogues continued to do wrong, none of us would be able to escape easily in case we messed with the Justice League one day, so I decided to disband the Rogues after the last big job and live an ordinary life on our own."
Yuri and the others listened quietly, and even the Weather Wizard's face showed a few traces of reminiscence.
"We have our eyes on the largest bank in Central City, and we intend to empty the vaults there." Captain Cold continued.
"Ah! I know about that big bank robbery, that was the last battle between the Flash and the Rogues, and then the Rogues disbanded after that." Wally exclaimed as he suddenly remembered something.
"That's right, that was the one, we had a whole month of planning in preparation, we thought it was foolproof ... the result was obvious, it was always the Flash who won."
Captain Cold pulled out a bitter smile and said, "No matter how much effort I put in and what plans I came up with, I could never beat that guy, I lead the Rogues, they trust me, but I can't even get them to live in a clean base in peace, I'm not worthy to be the leader of the Rogues."
'Coward, cold bastard, to say such things now ...' the weather wizard cursed in his heart, and he lowered his head deep to keep others from seeing his expression.
"I only had one thought at the time, I wanted to win against Flash once, even if it was only once!" Captain Cold snapped his head up, a fire lurking in his eyes.
"Then the man appeared, a man in a robe, his face covered by a hood approached me." Wally's eyes twitched; this mystery man appeared to be the one who had caused the current state of the Rogues.
"He gave me a device that would restructure the genes of the Rogues, fusing the abilities of our weapons with ourselves."
Yuri nodded in understanding, so that was how Captain Cold was able to perform Absolute Zero without the need for a freeze gun.
By the time Captain Cold brought the genetic restructuring device back to the Rogues stronghold, both Pied Piper and Trickster had already left.
So the only people involved in the genetic restructuring were Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, Heat Wave and Mirror Master, who placed their exclusive weapons on the device before putting their hands on them and activating the restructuring device.
A huge explosion destroyed the entire stronghold, rippling through Lisa who was just staying in the stronghold doing nothing.
The genetic recombination succeeded and failed.
Captain Cold has superpowers, but he feels an equal amount of cold as he performs them, and while he doesn't freeze to death, it's definitely not a pleasant feeling.
A weather wizard can control the weather without relying on his weather wand, at the cost of his emotions changing with the weather and not showing his true mood.
Heatwave is similar to Captain Cold in that he can create ferocious flames himself, but he has severe burns all over his body, with barely a patch of skin intact.
Sam, the Mirror Master, was the worst, his entire body trapped in a small mirror that would never come out, now held in Lisa's hand.
"Who was the person who gave you the genetic reconstruction device?"
Wally asked impatiently, sensing in it the scent of a great conspiracy.
"I don't know, he didn't say his name, the more notable feature is ... he has a coin hanging from his chest with a three-eyed skull design engraved on it." Captain Cold shook his head, if he had known who the man was he would have gone and taken the man out long ago.
"So now it's safe to assume that Lisa's genes have been completely reconstructed as well." Yuri rubbed his chin and concluded.
"The explosion of the genetic recombination device must have involved Lisa at the time, along with all of your genes transforming ."
"I can solve Lisa's problem, and not even just Lisa, I can solve the rest of your problems all together. "
At these words, Captain Cold and Weather Wizard snapped their head to eyes.
"The genetic recombination device is supposed to be just an experiment, your recombined genetic chains are so misshapen and reversed in order that it is the cause of all your side effects."
"I can repair your mangled genes, eliminating your side effects while allowing you to retain your superpowers."
"As for the cost, I will need a little of your blood." With that said, Yuri then looked calmly at Captain Cold and the Weather Wizard, waiting for the two to choose.
"If you can really heal me so I don't have to switch moods after the damn weather, I'll do whatever you want." The weather wizard said without even thinking about it.
"As long as you can heal Lisa. " Captain Cold also agreed to Yuri's offer.
"Very well, then it's a deal." Then Yuri switched forms and turned into a XLR8 2.0. aka Speedstar.
Why switch forms? of course, it was to turn on the genetic repair function that came with the Omnitrix.
Gray Matter's body was too small and it was very inconvenient to operate the omnitrix using it.
