The faint glow of dawn seeped through the curtains, casting soft light across the bedroom. Chen Lin stirred awake, blinking sleep from her eyes. Wu Yuxuan was still fast asleep on the other side of the bed, his breathing slow and steady.
Careful not to wake him, she slipped out of bed and padded barefoot to the kitchen. Her stomach grumbled softly as she opened the refrigerator, only to be greeted by near emptiness.
A carton of eggs, some wilting vegetables, and a small packet of noodles stared back at her.
"Well... this will have to do," Chen Lin muttered to herself.
She tied her hair into a messy ponytail, rolled up her shirt sleeves, and got to work. The faint sizzle of eggs hitting the pan filled the silence of the apartment. She moved swiftly, chopping vegetables and stirring noodles, determined to make something decent out of the sparse ingredients.
Behind her, a deep voice cut through the quiet.
"Didn't know I had a chef in the house."
