Inside the small cabin, encouraged and reassured by the three children, even if they had no appetite, the kids began to eat their dinner.
Preparing themselves for a long stalemate.
After hastily finishing their boxed meals and cleaning up the trash, under the guidance of Mrs. Yūko, they started preparing the sleeping area in the cabin.
Although the criminals had only locked them inside the room without restricting their movements, there wasn't much they could do now.
Ensuring they had sufficient physical and mental strength was the most they could do for now. If they had a chance to escape, at least they wouldn't be lacking in those aspects.
However, as Mrs. Yūko was arranging the beds for the children, she suddenly clutched her heart and stumbled towards the bench.
"Yūko-sensei, what's wrong?" Conan was the first to notice that something was amiss and quickly approached her, asking with concern.
"My heart feels a little uncomfortable..." Yūko took out a small cloth bag from her bag and took out some medication.
"I'll go get some water." Seeing the situation, Conan immediately realized that it was a good opportunity. He exchanged a glance with Hattori Heiji, then hurriedly ran towards the iron door with his short legs.
Outside the room, the man in the leather jacket tilted his head upon seeing Conan running towards them on the surveillance monitor. At the same time, he heard a knocking sound. The man with long hair walked over and opened the iron door, looking down at Conan with a grim expression. "What's the matter?"
"Sir..." Conan used a cute accent and looked up weakly at the man with long hair. "Yūko-sensei has a heart condition and needs to take her medicine. Can I get some water to bring back?"
"Give him the bottle from the refrigerator."
Upon hearing the man in the leather jacket's instructions, the "Rabbit" opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of mineral water, handing it to Conan.
"Child, how do you view this country?"
"Huh?"
Ignoring Conan's bewildered expression, the man in the leather jacket continued, "This country has never shouldered the responsibilities it should have, nor has it ever truly protected its people. If nothing happens, this country will stagnate, content with indulgence and lacking ambition. Can you imagine what this country will become when you grow up?"
"..."
Faced with Conan's silence,
The man in the leather jacket crouched down and said, "Child, what we want to protect is the future of this country."
"But why would you hurt us then?"
Conan looked at him earnestly and said, "Does protecting the country require such extreme methods? You say this country doesn't protect its own people, but aren't you doing the same? Even more recklessly?"
"You little brat!" The yellow-haired man stood up immediately, his face filled with anger, wanting to teach this smart-mouthed kid a lesson.
"Stop."
The man in the leather jacket coldly stared at the yellow-haired man and reprimanded him. Then he stood up and looked seriously at Conan before saying, "I've said it before. If you don't make any rash moves, I won't harm you. Now go."
"Oh..." Conan's face changed from seriousness to a frightened expression. He walked to the iron door and weakly spoke, "Um... Can we turn off the lights... We're getting ready to sleep..."
"I understand." The man in the leather jacket nodded, and the "Rabbit" escorted Conan back into the room before closing the iron door again.
"Here you go."
Conan handed the water to Mrs. Yūko, and after she finished taking her medicine, he said a few words to Hattori Heiji. Then he walked towards the switch and turned off the several hanging lamps in the room.
The room instantly plunged into darkness.
........
Inside the room where the four criminals were located.
After the monitor went dark, the "Rabbit" and the yellow-haired man went to rest early.
As for the man in the leather jacket, he disassembled his gun to maintain it. The man with long hair, who played the clown, didn't go to rest but watched the man's actions and slowly spoke, "Ueno-san, have you used that gun recently?"
"Why do you ask?" The man in the leather jacket continued his actions and asked.
"The recent case involving the shooting of a Police Officer," the man with long hair replied.
"I did it," Ueno calmly looked at the man with long hair and said, "Those guys were just scum, not worthy of being considered police officers. Are you afraid?"
"No, everything is for the sake of this country."
"People of this country are now like a child whose house has caught fire, but is still sleeping soundly, oblivious and defenseless. We need to wake up this child quickly and have them face danger, completely unprepared.
So, we will make a public statement tomorrow."
"Ok." The man with long hair nodded and revealed a sinister smile. "Because that is our mission."
Ueno loaded the handgun, gripping it firmly in his hand, his eyes filled with determination. "Once the mission is completed, I will willingly accept the consequences.
We'll see everything tomorrow."
........
As time passed, Conan and Hattori Heiji quietly got up from their beds.
"Well then, let's start our move."
"Yes, but before that, I'll take care of the cameras."
In the pitch-black darkness, Hattori Heiji fumbled in the dark and discreetly placed his coat over the cameras.
The room was already dark, and now with the cameras covered, it was unlikely that they could see anything.
Now that the two of them had breathed a sigh of relief, Conan turned on the flashlight on his wrist and sighed, "It's a pity there's no signal in the mountains. Otherwise, I could use my earring-shaped phone to call and communicate with Detective Senichi."
"Don't even think about it in this mountainous area. It's more reliable to find a public phone booth after we escape." Hattori Heiji replied.
"Hey! What are you guys doing?!"
Seeing the movement, Ryōsuke panicked when he noticed Conan and Hattori Heiji using small flashlights to explore the room. He quickly whispered, "There are surveillance cameras over there!!"
"Don't worry, I already covered them with my coat." Hattori Heiji pointed to the cameras to reassure Ryōsuke.
"I see." Ryōsuke immediately felt relieved, then looked at the two of them and whispered, "So what are we supposed to do now?"
"Actually, I had a feeling before that I could hear a faint whistling sound and feel a slight breeze." Hattori Heiji explained, "There might be some ventilation ducts or something similar in the room. Maybe Conan can use them to escape and call for help."
"Is that so?" Ryōsuke's spirits lifted upon hearing this. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's find it quickly."
The room wasn't large, and it didn't take much effort for the three of them to locate the source of the ventilation.
In a corner of the room, there was a protruding square pillar against the wall. They initially thought that the wooden board covering it was sealed with cement, but it turned out to be haphazardly covered with a wooden board.
Underneath, there was a vertical passage resembling a deep well, with a square opening.
The three of them moved the wooden board, with Hattori Heiji taking the lead, and quickly descended into this dilapidated underground passage.
