As police officers crowded into Melissa's driveway, she felt somewhat more secure. Melissa's voice shook as she battled to find the perfect words as she told them about the horrifying discovery.
As detectives began their investigation, Melissa's mind raced with questions.
Why would Adam be at her house?
Did he have any enemies?
Melissa was unable to get rid of the unease that had taken root in her. Melissa's house and the neighborhood were overrun by police officers. Investigators interviewed any possible witnesses and went over any evidence they could find. Melissa tried to think of any hints that could help her understand why Adam was in her driveway.
Then another question hit her: "Had someone
been trying to frame her?"
The police eventually had what they required and departed the area after many hours. Adam's body was taken with them, but not before Melissa and everyone else nearby were told to keep their doors locked and to get in touch if they noticed anything unusual.
Melissa sat on the steps to her front door, confused and not knowing what to do. The next thing she knew, she was calling Theo in an attempt to find comfort in his company.
"Something terrible has happened, and I don't want to be alone right now. I didn't know who else to call," Melissa confessed to Theo.
"Don't worry, I'll be there in a minute," Theo reassured her.
"Thank you. I'll be outside, waiting on the stairs. I'm scared to go back inside on my own," Melissa told Theo.
"Stay there. I'll be with you shortly," Theo promised.
"Okay, once you arrive, I'll explain everything to you," Melissa told Theo.
"Sounds good," said Theo.
After that, Melissa hung up the phone, nervously awaiting Theo's arrival in the hopes that his presence would provide some comfort during this difficult time.
