Chapter 16 - First Job

Sometime later Chief Inspector Burgeon showed up and greeted Jordan once again. He was assigned the duty of providing Jordan with a place to stay and helping him settle into the city.

Jordan was happy that everything was proceeding so smoothly and that he was out of the murky waters for now. Jordan was brought to a building larger than any he had ever seen before. The building was at least 200 stories tall and held a massive sign at the front which read "Hotel Exotic". Jordan was really impressed with everything he had seen since he entered the city.

He had even become a gun fanatic when he inquired about the item holstered to the officer's waists and was shown a demonstration of the weapons and found out what they were capable of. He found it hard to believe that such a small item could inflict so much damage with no magical power.

Due to Jordan's charm stat, most persons that he came into contact with treated him warmly and it was very easy for him to gain the favor of others. He took full advantage and grabbed any benefit that presented itself.

Chief Inspector Burgeon got Jordan a room key and taught him the proper use of the elevators and how to find his room. After taking Jordan to his room and answering most of the questions that he was asked, he showed Jordan how to operate the telephone and informed him that room service would take care of any requests he had. Burgeon left shortly after ensuring that everything was in order.

Jordan found went into the refrigerator and drank a few cans of soda and ate a few chocolate bars. He lay on the big comfortable mattress and burped in contentment.

Jordan found life in this unknown universe to be great and seriously considered if it was even worth returning home. He had learned many things since his arrival in the city which made him secretly wonder how everyone from his universe was living so primitively and these people could not even use magic nor had any spirits.

After a while, Jordan decided to take a look at his stats and skills to look at his improvement. 'System' Jordan inwardly called out.

Jordan admired his fast growth for a while before retracting the system interface. 'I need to grow stronger and faster. Although everything is okay now, who knows how long it will last? I'm sure that the police force won't be willing to watch over me forever. I need a method of gaining experience.' Jordan pondered inwardly.

Jordan suddenly sighed and decided to rest for now. He rolled onto his side and slowly fell asleep.

Beep Beep Beep

Jordan sprang from the bed to his feet as he looked around for the source of the noise. He noticed the little clock he had seen earlier that day in a corner with the alarm going off. He randomly pushed the buttons until the noise stopped. He looked out of the glass doors at the balcony and noticed that it was dark outside.

'Guess I'll get some sleep for now and look for a job to make some money tomorrow. I can also look for a way to level up while I'm at it.' Jordan thought to himself as he lied back in bed and returned to dreamland.

Jordan woke up early that morning and after excitedly operating the elevator up and down a few times, he finally left the hotel. He took his time on a casual stroll as he took in the sights. He couldn't help but gape whenever he saw a new building.

Back home the houses were all made of wood and did not exceed three stories. Even the castle in the royal capital of the Griffin Kingdom could not compare to even the shabbiest building he had seen in this city.

About 2 hours into Jordan's walk he noticed a few guys lifting some lumber and moving them about. He approached the thick male overseeing the transportation of the wood and inquired whether his assistance was necessary. At first, the guy went to yell at Jordan but after giving him a good look he smiled warmly and asked Jordan if he would like a job. Jordan immediately got excited and nodded his head. The overseer showed him the wood that needed to be moved and pointed out the storage house to take the wood.

The overseer was just about to call another worker to assist Jordan in the lifting of the wood when his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. He watched in astonishment as Jordan casually threw one of the lumbering utility poles across his shoulder and walked off.

When Jordan returned the overseer grabbed his hand and shook it crazily as he introduced himself as Jack with a face full of smiles. He took Jordan by the arm and walked him around the site showing him the different areas and even introducing him to a few other workers.

He offered Jordan a part-time job and told him to come back whenever he was ready. Jordan left in high spirits but not before earning himself a hundred-dollar bill. He was very pleased about his earnings which had quite practically come to him.

Meanwhile, the overseer Jack stared at Jordan's back with a smile and excitement. He could not believe his luck, to bump into a steroidal young man that was ready to work. Now that was quite a rare scene and he did not know how he was going to convince his drinking buddies that the story is real.
