Chapter 54 - Allies or Threat? (2)

The wounded abomination continued to writhe on the ground, its pained cries filling the air. Enzo watched, his heart pounding, as the leader drew a sword from their side with a fluid motion. The blade gleamed ominously in the dim light, and Enzo couldn't help but wonder if this was the creature's end.

But then, to his surprise, the leader did something unexpected. Instead of delivering a fatal blow, they knelt beside the wounded abomination. With deliberate care, they examined the creature's injuries, their gloved hands moving deftly.

Enzo's confusion deepened. This was not the behavior he had expected from a group of survivors encountering a monstrous threat. Especially since they hurt the monster just a few minutes ago.

It seemed that these individuals had a purpose beyond mere survival or killing.

The other members of the group maintained their defensive perimeter, watching over the leader and the injured abomination. Enzo couldn't hear their words, but their body language spoke volumes of their cautiousness and vigilance.

"What are they doing, though?" Enzo still observed everything from afar. It was hard to even understand what they were trying to do as he thought that everyone would try and kill the monsters to survive.

But here they were, examining the creatures.

The next moment, Enzo's confusion only grew as they started to tie the abomination with a sturdy metallic chain.

He doubted that it would have been of any use in normal circumstances, but the abomination could barely move.

"Are they... capturing it?"

Enzo was a little taken aback by their sudden actions. It was starting to get weirder and weirder.

"Should I follow them?" He quickly came to a conclusion and flapped his wings in their direction. He still maintained a distance of over a kilometer between them to not get caught. It was only through his butterflies that could he navigate with ease and still be able to follow them.

Enzo maintained his distance, his butterflies silently following the enigmatic group as they bound the wounded abomination with the sturdy chain. The creature's struggles grew weaker, and its pained cries gradually subsided. It was clear that the survivors were not intent on killing the abomination outright, but their intentions remained a mystery.

As Enzo continued to observe, he couldn't shake the feeling of intrigue mixed with apprehension. What kind of survivors were these, and what was their purpose in capturing the injured creature? It was completely different from the brutal and chaotic world he had encountered so far.

They led the captured creature through the desolate streets of Paris, their footsteps echoing in the eerie silence. The city, once a bustling metropolis, had been reduced to a haunting graveyard of broken dreams and shattered lives.

Enzo's thoughts raced as he considered the possibilities. Were these survivors part of a larger organization or research group studying the creatures that now roamed the world? Or did they have some other purpose for capturing the abomination?

As he watched, he couldn't help but notice that the survivors moved with a sense of unity and purpose that was rare in this chaotic world. They communicated through subtle hand signals and gestures, a well-coordinated team.

The leader, the one who had initially examined the abomination, seemed to be directing their movements. Enzo wondered what kind of knowledge or technology allowed them to handle the creature in such a controlled manner.

The group eventually arrived at a partially intact building that bore the scars of past battles. It was a stark contrast to the surrounding ruins. The survivors ushered the captured abomination inside, and Enzo carefully positioned his butterflies to keep a watchful eye on the building's entrances and exits.

His heart pounded with uncertainty as he weighed his options. The survivors represented a stark contrast to the chaos and brutality he had encountered in the outside world. They seemed organized, purposeful, and perhaps even knowledgeable about the creatures that now inhabited their world.

But the world had changed, and trust was a rare commodity. Enzo knew he couldn't let his guard down. While he wanted to know what was happening within that building, he couldn't ignore the possibility of danger.

After all, if they managed to survive thus far, it meant that they were strong enough to defend themselves.

As he pondered, Enzo's butterflies remained vigilant, monitoring the building's entrances and any signs of activity within. He needed more information before making a decision.

Minutes turned into hours as he observed the building. There was no immediate sign of the survivors emerging, and the abomination's pained cries had long since ceased.

As he observed, he noticed that the surroundings began to darken, signaling the approach of night. The survivors had been inside the building for hours now, and Enzo's curiosity warred with his caution. He knew that the cover of darkness would make his observations more challenging.

"I guess I can pretend to be a wandering survivor. I'll just take some butterflies with me. They will be scared if they see a swarm of 200 butterflies, right?"

In the end, he decided to go with 1 high-grade butterfly of each version, the others will stay around the building, observing anything suspicious. He couldn't let his guard down yet.

Enzo made his cautious approach towards the building where the survivors had taken the captured abomination. His heart pounded in his chest as he moved through the desolate streets, his 6 high-grade butterflies hovering around him like a protective halo.

The eerie silence of the city was broken only by the soft rustling of Enzo's wings and the occasional distant sound of shifting rubble. The survivors had been inside for hours, and Enzo couldn't shake the feeling that he was on the verge of discovering something significant.

His decision to bring only a select few butterflies with him was a calculated risk. He hoped that the survivors would be less alarmed by the presence of just a few, rather than a swarm of hundreds. It was a delicate balance between approaching them as a potential ally and not appearing as a threat.

But well, just those few butterflies were probably enough to deal with anyone dumb enough to take him head-on.

"Guess I'll just have to appear weak for a while. You'll have to do a great job, guys." Enzo smiled as he finally entered the building.
