CHAPTER XXII: MISSION 3 UNLOCKED
Math, it's always been my comfort zone. For as long as I can remember, Math and Physics have given me feelings I can't put into words. Throughout all the highs and low of my life, Math and Physics comforted me. Whenever I felt bored, lonely, scared or sad. I would get a Math or Physics text book and a note book. Try to solve a few problems.
All my life, it was my constant. In this primitive world, I can't really do that anymore. They paper they have here is expensive and very impractical. Not to mention the ridiculous ink. I can't really do complex calculations on this shitty paper. I don't want to write with a stick in the ground like I did a few times since I came to this world. Times like this when I'm sitting still and doing nothing I instinctively try to reach for a pen and paper. What's worse, I can't do the really good staff without a calcutor, I really miss my white board from home.
"Here's your food!" A voice suddenly snapped me awake.
I looked up to see Freya with a tray of food. Four fist like flat cakes and slices of meat of a wild pig we killed on the way here.
"Thanks!" I said and grabbed the tray from her.
A little ways ahead was the fire that continued to burn. Most of the guards and servants sat around the fire as they conversed and laughed. Freya also joined them as I sat here alone.
I quickly finished the salty cakes. Washed them down with the sake. It took me just under 5 minutes to clean the plate. I returned the tray and returned to my tent.
As the others continued to converse and laugh, I sat cross legged closed my eyes to meditate.
I am still very poor at controlling the Ki Energy. From what I remember, KI is a mystical energy present in living things. Of course there are different interpretations of it throughout different cultures, mostly Asian cultures.
Mostly they think of it as a physical energy. Used to enhance physical strengths. Used as a weapon, to heal and fly. To achieve that you have to achieve balance of body and mind. If I remember correctly, to use Ki to fly you have to use it to lift you up and push you through the air. At this point I'm still just trying get used to moving it around in my body.
To manifest it outside my body to create a fearsome aura or use it as a Ki blast. At my current level its easier to raise my power level by releasing as much Ki from that seed in my stomach. My success rate doing that is 60% percent. Doing a Ki blast is still at 10%.
For some reason manifesting the energy outside my body is like controlling my toes. I can feel it like my toes but it's just out of my control. I can't control it like I do with my fingers. So anywahy I continued to experiment manifesting the energy until I get bored and fall asleep.
I feel multiple presences. 15... 16... 17 in total. They are just at the end of sensing radius. Shit! They're coming. No... 2 stayed back but the rest are coming fast.
I quickly reach for my new very expensive sword and walk out. The sun is still under the horizon but it's light is giving life to a new day. My tent is away from the rest but the distance is negligible at my current speed. The first tent I reach is of the Captain.
"We're surrounded! I need you to wake everyone up!" I say to him.
Like a true veteran he grasps the situation. He quickly gets up and starts spreading the word.
Meanwhile I reach for the tent with Freya and Helena. I wonder if they're in the nude. What the fuck! I ain't got time for this! They're closing in fast! Fuck it! I jump right in. They both jump awake to my commotion. Fortunately or maybe unfortunately they're not nude.
"Get ready! We're surrounded!" I warn them.
When I get back out, all the guards are ready for combat. In specific positions they form a perimeter around Helena. The servants are packing up everything into the carriages.
Since no one used Ki to fight, I can't tell who's strong or weak based on the size of their Ki. They all seem roughly the same to me. I can only assume that the two who stayed behind are the leaders. The ones surrounding us appear to be the weaklings. I hope I'm fucking right about this!
"How many!?" A voice suddenly asks me from behind. I turn to see Freya already in her armour just like the rest.
"There are 15 surrounding us in the trees! They're not the only ones as there are 2 more a distance away! I'm guessing they're the leaders!" I explained.
"Any with special abilities we should watch out for!?" She asks.
"You mean like magic!?"
"Yes! High level warriors and mages can sense other sources of magic and can even tell what kind of magic they use and their strength as well!!"
"Well that is fucking useful but I'm not a mage! I don't have a single drop of mana!" She looks at me with a confused look. "Didn't you hear your uncle the other day? I can't use any magic."
"But.. the lion...?"
Now this actually makes sense. Kail, Kaku and Merus are high level mages and warriors. No wonder they knew I had no magic. Finally an answer for one of my many questions.
Suddenly I hear a loud battle cry from the trees. In comes a tall muscular Beastkin with a giant sword that he swings down. Almost instinctively I block with my sword. Because he jumped from such a high up place, the impact carried through to me and pushed me down to a single knee.
Immediately they jump down in more numbers and start battling the guards. I try to push him away but he has his entire weight pushing me down. Pressuring me so much that my hands feel numb.
What the fuck!? Where's the strength that I haď before!? I try to raise my power level by releasing more Ki. With the adrenaline rush it's easier. Fuck it! Adrenaline rush equals better Ki control! That should have been obvious from the start!
With my increased strength I push back and start lifting my knee on the ground. Eventually we stand equal and I push back against his ridiculous strength. He suddenly steps back and gives me the time to fully take in the situation.
Looking around the camp I notice about 10 bandits. That means 5 are still in the trees. Helena is still protected by Freya. The guards are in a stalemate against the bandits. Suddenly a notification pops up infront of me.
"MISSION 3 UNLOCKED"

WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THIS!!!?
