Chapter 5 - System's Mistake

Upon hearing the system's warning, Samuel immediately turned to fly away from the living armor, but like a bird crashing into a window, Samuel crashed right into an invisible wall, so Samuel decided to just fly as high as he could within the zone he was confined to.

The living armor had no problem following his movements, though. Right before his eyes, the living armor disappeared, along with... one of his legs. Samuel didn't realize what had happened until a few seconds after he was lacking a limb.

He could only look on in horror as he saw his amputated leg, letting out loud wails of pain as he fell onto the road like a bird that lost its wings. While he wanted to continue the fight, he had nothing to stop such a pain.

"Ah, squirm and shriek in pain as I slowly cut you while you're still alive."

"Stay back!"

Samuel crawled away from the living armor that threw his leg away. As he first engaged the armor, he expected a fight where his air superiority would carry him through it, not a second phase where a demonic entity fought him.

And as he was in thought, crawling and retreating in despair, he lost his right arm, spraying even more blood, letting out another shriek of pain. Samuel was ready to give up now, and as the living armor saw him stop, it shook its head.

"Ah, you're no fun, giving up that quickly. Well, you can die now."

The living armor raised its sword and swung down, aiming to chop his head cleanly off, golden chains rained down from the sky, shattering the barrier like a car crashing through glass, to restrain it. The chains spread an abundance of mana in the surroundings, giving Samuel some clarity back from his exhausted and bleeding body.

[Due to the system's mistake, the gods grant the user a chance to kill the Death Knight (incomplete). It will be restrained for 30 seconds.]

"Better late than... never, I guess."

Samuel was angry at the gods for not intervening sooner, and the system for letting such a thing slip by, but he knew that without them, he would probably be one of the countless agonized souls claimed by the living armor to be tortured once the thing was dragged back to its dimension or some sort of system prison, if it would be dragged there at all.

Angered and heavily bleeding, Samuel was like a mana-sucking black hole as the abundant mana from the chains coalesced into his body as he spread his wings to fly up, the wind suddenly picked up as countless feathers swirled around him and the Death Knight.

[Magic manipulation has leveled up. Feather Storm has leveled up. Magic manip...]

Endless notifications rang out from the system as Samuel kept charging up his attack, which was now big enough to be seen from the ground.

"Stop, you lunatic! You'll kill both of us doing that!"

Ten seconds into its confinement, the Death Knight shouted as it finally realized the severity of the situation it was in. The attack would probably deal incredibly low damage, but just the quantity would be enough to break through and kill it. Its words would fall on deaf ears, however, as Samuel kept charging up his attack until not an ounce of mana remained in the surroundings once twenty seconds had passed.

The only thing keeping Samuel from falling down right now was his own willpower, which he used to direct the hurricane towards the Death Knight, who could only watch in horror as it was pelleted by the sea of feathers due to the chains holding it still. In less than five seconds after it was attacked, it could hear its armor chip and crack at the assault, squirming as it hoped to escape the chains.

But its escape would not be fulfilled as its body was destroyed like there were a million ants chewing on it. Once the thirty seconds had passed, nothing of the armor had remained. All of a sudden, a black light shone through the area, signaling a skill's activation.

"I curse you, O winged son of man, to never show your face ever again and to never spend the rest of your days in peace."

Those were the Knight's last words, before two items fell from where it was onto the road, and countless souls burst forth from where it was. Instead of leaving and heading towards the heavens, they all charged at him like maddened beasts, entering his body while they all cackled and laughed. Samuel was barely conscious by the end of the souls' assault, only to see one final soul stand where the knight once was, and it was... the death knight himself who charged towards Samuel too, entering his body like the other souls.

"I'll have a lot of fun fucking with your mind, you chicken bastard."

Samuel finally fell onto the road now that the adrenaline boost was over, his only protection from certain death by falling being his wings' attack mode automatically activating to break his fall. The blood loss and lack of mana had finally gotten to him, and he was ready to lose his life, and as he was fading in and out of consciousness, a familiat blue box of text appeared before his eyes.

[Awakened! User fully healed! User detected to be a privilege holder. Please pick your class.]

[An unbelievable achievement! Please check your achievements tab to see them.]

[We at the system apologize for our mistake. User shall be granted the right to claim anything of their choosing as long as it does not break the balance.]

Samuel wanted to reach out and interact with the system, but while his body was healed, he was still incredibly exhausted. And with immense reluctance, he lost consciousness.

About fifteen minutes, two figures appeared from an alley, suspiciously looking left, right, and behind before picking up Samuel and his items before running away as fast as they could.
