Chapter 65 - CHAPTER 64: Finale "Enemy At The Gates"

*Barbara Gordon "Batgirl", League Of Shadows Temple, Himalayas

Krios finished climbing over some of the rubble before stopping to stare at the everyone in the hangar.

[Guys... what the hell is he doing here?!?] Connor growled in their telepathic chat room.

Soon everyone was talking over each other.

[Shit, why did he have to be here!]

[We are so screwed.]

[We need to capture him!]

[We need to get out of here.]

Kaldur ended it quickly with a loud [ENOUGH!}

Everyone quieted as they waited to hear from their leader.

[This is what we are going to do,] Kaldur said firmly.

[Wally, grab Robin and get him back to the bioship. It is still cloaked so it should be safe for him. Batgirl, you, Artemis and Zatanna deal with these soldiers and the meta man. M'gann and Connor, you are with me against Krios.]

Wally spoke up, [Dude, that sounds good and all. But aren't you and Connor a little busy fighting your armored soldier?]

[Perhaps,] Kaldur said as he stared at the armored leader, [But perhaps not.]

When Krios entered the hangar the fighting came to a sudden stop. But now as she watched the blond suited man and his armored soldiers there attention had completely diverted towards Krios.

[I think these men are not here for us... I think they came for Krios.] Batgirl said.

As if to confirm her suspicion the blond scarred man spoke loudly,

"Ignore the brats, get Krios now!"

As if they were robots all the armored men immediately directed their attention to Krios. The few who still had their weapons opened fire, while the leader who had been engaging Kaldur and Connor quickly charged towards Krios.

Their efforts would be in vain as with a single look from Krios the man charging him was dragged into the direction of the energy bolts. Despite his armor it apparently was not enough to resist their own weapons. The jerky motion his body made as the bolts hit his body nearly made Barbara sick. The soldiers stopped firing and the now partly charred and torn up body of their leader fell to the ground .

[Change of plans, Wally get Robin, everyone else get to the ship and prepare to leave now!]

M'gann shouted, [But Kaldur, we can get Krios!]

[NO WE CAN"T! THIS IS NOT AN OPTION!] Kaldur yelled.

The remaining soldiers had charged past ignoring the Team to engage Krios. He wordlessly blocked most of the bolts with his shield and stood still letting them come. For whatever reason Krios seemed to let them keeping firing without retaliating, it looked like he was waiting for something.

From Barbara's perspective it seemed like he was frustrated but then as if something clicked he nodded to himself and held out his hand.

The newest of bolts heading towards him instead of splashing against his shield slowed to a crawl before stopping completely. Then with a flick the bolts flew back to the soldiers penetrating their skulls.

Just like that, save for their Team and the mysterious blond scarred man everyone else in the hangar was either knocked out or dead.

Barbara swung down from the rafter she had been in and landed near the bioship. Wally had grabbed Robin who groaned in pain, she had to resist the urge to hit him for his stupidity. M'gann, Zatanna and Connor followed quickly while Kaldur had taken a position between them and Krios a few meters away.

To her surprise, despite losing the majority of his soldiers the blond scarred man walked non-worryingly towards Krios and Kaldur.

Soon all three men were standing a few feet apart in a triangle formation staring at each other.

[Everyone get into the ship and leave the hangar bay,] Kaldur spoke firmly.

[I will join you all after buying some time to get our ship out. Don't worry about me, I have a feeling that our blond friend will be a bigger problem for Krios.]

Barbara hated the idea of leaving Kaldur but knew enough to trust his instincts. She believed she knew why Kaldur had changed their course to full on retreat.

Krios was much more powerful then before.

Most of the Team boarded the ship with Connor helping Wally lay Robin down on one of the gurney's. Zatanna cast a spell which seemed to cause Robin to wince before he began to show obvious signs of relaxing and relief from pain.

Zatanna breathed a sigh of relief, "He is hurt bad but I don't think anything permanent. He will need some extra medical help Barbara, I just helped relieved the pain."

Quickly taking down their medical kit Barbara began to work. First by applying a healing gauze to the main wounds, and then a few cotton wrappings to bind the wounds. Checking Robin over she determined his arm was fully broken and took to putting it back in place with a sling. His growls of pain showed how ginger it still was despite the pain relief spell.

After finishing up the bindings and setting his arm back into place, Barbara took an injector gun and loaded it up with some of the special League level medical narcotic. It was a combination of synthesized pain reliever, Martian and Thanagarian healing chemicals that Batman, Martian Manhunter and Hawkguy had created to help the members heal quicker.

Robin was groaning, "Got to get out.... warn the League...."

"Shhh Dick," Barbara said softly. The ship tilted upward as M'gann flew them out of the hangar.

She injected Robin and he fell asleep, soon the viewports changed from the dark hangar cave to the open sky with snow everywhere.

Walking up to the cockpit Barbara instructed M'gann, "Keep us hovering here for now, we need to wait for Kaldur."

*Krios "James," League Of Shadows Temple, Himalayas

It was a great surprise to him to be able to stop a bolt of energy, much more so to fling it back as easily as bullets. He had never tried something like that before and besides the weird almost nebulous feel he felt like he could grab hold of it with his telekinesis.

This day had been a strange one, with the Chinese army laying siege to his temporary home, his lack of answers from Al Ghul, to Robin showing up out of nowhere, things seemed to be getting weirder and weirder.

Robin showing up was unexpected but a little nostalgic for Krios as he resorted to beating him to find out why he was here. To his credit he didn't say anything and managed to escape his grasp after distracting him for a moment.

'Slade would kick my ass for letting my guard down and letting him escape,' he thought as he chased Robin through the Temple.

Then he came into a hangar where he had to kill a bunch of want to be storm troopers and now was in a stand off between an Atlantean and... some random man.

Keeping his eyes on the random man, Krios asked curiously, "So is this one of your new friends Kaldur?"

The fishboy stared at him for a moment before responding, "We never did establish how you know my name."

"Funny that, isn't it," Krios replied amused.

Staring at the blond he saw that the man was covered in scars, and those his eyes were hidden with sunglass, there was a sense of evident satisfaction.

"So, are you a friend of his or just here to see the sights?"

The blond man smiled and removed his glasses to reveal a normal blue eye and the other bleach white.

The man spoke politely, "My name is Felix. I represent an interested third-party that would like to talk with you about a potential opportunity. I can assure you that my employer provides plenty and will guarantee your needs."

Krios stared at him for a second, "Ahhhh, I see. Not connected to the League, can I assume you may be responsible for the assault on this base?"

"The League of Shadows tell you such?" Felix asked.

From the corner of his eye he thought he saw a large movement, light distorted slightly and then went back to normal. Maybe it was one of those rumored invisible ships the League supposedly had.

Ignoring it, Krios shook his head, "Just a educated guess."

"The way I see it," Krios sighed and then pointed at Kaldur, "You want to put me in prison. You would be right to considering everything."

Then he pointed to Felix and said in a doubtful voice, "And you want to hire me for something?"

The Team being here was a mystery for another time, the fact that this man had admitted to using an army to attack a League of Shadows temple was something that did not sit right with him. If this supposed opportunity was really honest then why require an army to convince? Why the extra armed guards, wait no, armed soldiers to bring him along?

"You know how badly that stinks to high heaven right?" Krios pointedly said to Felix.

The smile on Felix's face faded immediately and instead one of determination replaced it. With a speed to rival that of Superboy or Kaldur, the man leaped forward and managed to grip Krios by the arm. Redish glowing veins appeared on his arms that quickly spread until reaching Krios and soon latched upon him.

Immediately, whatever strength or vitality Krios had began to dwindle rapidly. It started to feel like he had run a marathon and benched pressed non-stop for a few hours straight.

And it only got worse.

Krios fell to his knees, the drain had now started to become painful and his vision began to blur.

"My my my, you are more powerful then expected," Felix said with glee and a sadistic gleam in his eye.

A low groan escaped Krios' lips as he tried to fight in any way he could. Anything he tried from physically breaking Felix's grip to throwing him with telekinesis failed.

"I will admit, I thought it would be harder to get close enough to do this. But I suppose my expectations were too high..."

Gritting his teeth, Krios managed to place both his hands on Felix's grip. He strained his muscles trying to pry the man's hand but continued to fail.

To his credit, Kaldur tried to step in to help but was sent flying back with a simple back hand from Felix. All the while the man kept talking, most of it going over Krios' head.

"Your parents would of course be proud of how far you came before being caught."

Despite his growing weakness, the mention of his parents lit a fire inside him.

With strained breath he spoke, "What did you just say?"

"Your parents," Felix replied nonchalantly, "I had the pleasure of meeting them several times. Talk about insanely dangerous people. You are well on your way to becoming such."

Something bothered Krios about the way Felix talked about his parents. He was not sure the exact reason why, or how, but it felt like his voice was familiar. But he was certain that he had never met the man before. A mystery for another time, if he could escape this unique problem.

Felix was still for the most part monologuing and with how difficult it was to stop from passing out Krios was missing the majority of what he was saying.

The one thought he was able to hold onto for strength was that after all he had gone through, he knew his story would not end here.

Interrupting the talkative man, Krios gritted out a single word,

"No..."

Felix appeared perplex, "I am sorry what?"

"NO!!!!!" Krios roared.

With great effort despite his dwindling strength, Krios slowly stood. The look of smug confidence on Felix's face slowly changed to one of worry.

He wasn't sure what he was doing, none of his powers seemed to be working yet he felt something building. It was by far the strangest sensation he was experiencing as the pain and exhaustion from the drain was happening, a strong pull in his gut built as it reached a breaking point.

Krios screamed and soon his vision swam with a torrent of darkness with hints of swirling threads of white light. It felt like he was falling, flying and jumping all at the same time before finally as if reaching the light at the end of the tunnel he felt himself dumped out onto asphalt. The whole experience lasted a few seconds at best but felt so much longer.

Coughing and trying to catch his breath he soon realized he could hear cars, pedestrians and all manner of noise similar to the city he grew up in. Felix, Kaldur, The League Of Shadows Temple were all replaced with concrete, brick and the foul smells of an industrial city.

"The southbound train to Gotham City Hall will depart in 15 minutes, the southbound train to Gotham City Hall will depart in 15 minutes."

'Wait... Gotham...'

As he lacked the energy to stand he forced himself to sit up and lean against a brick building in a alleyway.

Looking up he could see familiar arches, and skyscrapers. Hell, he could even recognize where he was roughly in the city.

The one thing he couldn't answer was how he ended up here.
