Chapter 11 - A Stormy Turn

Jorgen was not surprised that Ryan was also killed, he just did not expect it to happen so quickly. In short, Ryan's throat was cut open and he died in his own room. The Red Salmon Inn already had several staff members on leave and left this bloody place.

Jorgen came to the room where the incident happened, squatted down and looked at Ryan's dead eyes. Like Foudaire, when he was found, the surface of the large pool of blood had coagulated. Even until his death, Ryan seemed to express a disdainful expression with his upturned mouth.

Hennessy stood aside, looking very anxious. In yesterday's conflict, the right side of his neck was bruised by a stone and now he couldn't even turn his head slightly.

"There are a total of sixteen guards around the inn. Later, five people were transferred to deal with the injured soldiers who made trouble. The remaining eleven people patrolled all four entrances of the inn all night and found nothing." Jorgen, to be honest, have you ever faced such an enemy before? He has killed three people now without leaving any clues."

"Don't worry, Hennessy," Jorgen said. "This guy is obviously experienced. If he can do things calmly, why can't you? Has the autopsy report of Foudaire come out yet?"

"Of course not! Over the past three years, our medical examiner has encountered less than three corpses a year, and now it has been six months since his last job. I just hope he knows how to grasp the handle of the scalpel instead of the blade when dissecting."

Although it was not very appropriate, Jorgen suddenly felt like laughing. When he first started working with Hennessy, he thought he was a rigid and easily persuaded local security officer, but whether it was work stress or the influence of cooperating with Jorgen, Hennessy had also learned to sarcasm for no reason. As Elin said, this is the "only entertainment project" of Military Intelligence Section 7.

"Anyway, his workload is going to increase. Send this guy over too. By the way, don't forget that we are going to the letter management office to wait for that guy tomorrow - if he really intends to come for the letter."

"If he is the murderer, I guess he probably won't show up. As you said, the letter said 'will arrive in port soon, be sure to pay attention' - now that Dalia is here, why does he need to deal with that letter? "

"So you have already identified that the letter refers to Dalia?"

"Who else could it be?"

"I said don't worry, Hennessy. I know you're irritable now, but don't worry. What we have to do is be prepared to see what will happen tomorrow. Now I'm going to ask Dalia some questions."

"Well, go ahead. It looks like she trusts you very much. Beautiful noblewomen from Stormwind City shouldn't be interrogated by local security officers like me... Damn, my neck hurts like hell..."

"That's enough, Hennessy. Haven't you noticed that you've become annoying?"

Dalia was still in her bedroom. Half an hour ago, she coaxed Mardias to sleep.

Jorgen knocked gently on the half-open door and entered after receiving a seemingly emotionless and effortless response. The room was filled with the smell of perfume, as if to forcibly resist the invasion of the stench of corpse. He saw Dalia sitting on the bed with her legs bent and her face pale.

The scene reminded Jorgen of four years ago when he saw her in the kidnapper's room. At that time, he and Dean defeated the kidnappers together, broke into that choking small secret room, and she was also sitting in the corner in this posture. She seemed to have spent all her energy before recognizing the two people in front of her as the ones who came to save her.

If it was four years ago, Jorgen would have hugged her lightly as a comfort between friends. But now it's different. She is no longer the noble girl who often gives vacations to her servants, and he is no longer the reckless young man who can freely control his own life.

Jorgen pulled a chair to the bedside and sat down.

"He fell asleep." Dalia looked at Mardias lying beside her.

Jorgen didn't speak.

"I shouldn't have brought him here. I should have come alone, Jorgen. I made a lot of mistakes, I lied to you, ..."

"I know. I knew from the beginning that you didn't come here for a vacation or something...but I didn't think it was necessary to discuss it at the time. Now we have to talk about it, Dalia. I know you're in a bad mood now, but..."

"I knew early on that something would go wrong. How did I know things would turn out like this...? When Fortdale died, I still deceived myself that it was an accident...but now Ryan is dead too. This must all be my fault."

She did not look at Jorgen, her eyes fell on a corner of the room, as if a dying man was lying there. Her fingers curled up and rested unevenly on her knees.

"Don't be too nervous, Dalia. You are very safe now. Mardias is also safe. Now, I want to know the real reason why you came to Southshore."

"Ryan told me I could see him. He assured me so...I believed him. I shouldn't have believed him."

"See who?"

"Dean. Ryan said he knew a man named Henry in Southshore who had contact with Dean... Henry could help me find him. I may have lost my mind to believe him, but..."

"You did believe him deeply. Otherwise you wouldn't have brought Mardias too."

"Mardias hasn't seen his father yet. But this is really not the most important thing, I did it entirely for myself...how selfish. I miss Dean so much. I miss him and hate him...why did he suddenly leave me and the child in my belly alone in that place? Jorgen, even you couldn't see any clues, no one knew why he left... This question tortured me every day..."

"Okay, Dalia, calm down. Solving the current problems may allow us to know why. Although it may make you uneasy, I still have to tell you: Ryan lied to you. We have done a thorough investigation of Henry and there is no evidence that he knew Dean - and, just before you arrived in Southshore, Henry was murdered."

"Oh, my God..."

"This man named Henry was closely linked to the Syndicate rebels. According to the current investigation, we believe that he had business disputes with the Syndicate, so he was murdered. In fact, we tend to believe that Ryan was also linked to the Syndicate. He tricked you into coming here, I think, because of your identity - the most important relative of the elder. Military Intelligence Section 7 has been chasing the Syndicate for many years, and the Syndicate will use all means to reverse the disadvantage. Do you understand?"

Dalia nodded weakly.

"Now Ryan has been killed, no matter what the reason, our most important duty at present is to protect you. However, the security forces in Southshore are very limited. So, we think the most effective measure is -"

"No, Jorgen, don't do this."

"...We must send you and Mardias back to Stormwind City."

"I can't just go back like this. How do you know Ryan completely lied to me? Maybe Dean is really nearby? Besides, if I go back now, how will the elder treat me and little Mardias...?"

"This is the only choice, Dalia. It's too dangerous to stay here. After all, Stormwind City is your...home."

"No. No! I must see Dean, can't you help me find him...? I absolutely can't go back now!"

"Calm down! Look, you're going to wake him up. I know you're confused now, but to protect yourself and Mardias, you must see the situation clearly. Take a deep breath, Dalia. Calm down."

Dalia covered her face, and her shoulders shook constantly. It was obvious that she was trying her best to calm herself down, but this was like putting burned fingers into cold water, the pain would only be temporarily concealed.

"Take the ship back to Stormwind City. We'll take care of the rest. Your safety is too important, Dalia. For Mardias, for Dean, for me. Even if I abandon my job, I can't let you get hurt in this place. If there is any news of Dean, I will notify you immediately."

"Really? Jorgen. Do you promise?"

"I promise. Of course."

Finally, Dalia hugged him. "Rest. As soon as I contact the ship, I'll come over immediately." Jorgen said and left the room.

Jorgen did not tell her about Foudaire and the letter. His duty at the moment was only to persuade her to leave as soon as possible, and saying this would do no good.

Dean. Look, you left so irresponsibly and left so much trouble.

Jorgen went downstairs and found Hennessy. Hennessy still did not know about Dean, but now in order to facilitate the case, Jorgen had to tell him roughly about the situation.

"It turns out that there is such a complicated inside story," Hennessy said. "Military Intelligence Section 7 is really amazing. How did he think of abandoning his wife and inheritance rights?"

"I don't know either, but that's not what we care about, Hennessy. Ryan used 'you can see Dean' as bait to trick Dalia into coming. I have to say he did a good job, because even Mardias came. If in this world, whose life would the elder value most, it could only be Mardias Shawl, his heir."

"I didn't expect the problem to be so serious. I really didn't expect it. I mean, Southshore is just a small fishing and fish selling place... Now it's linked to one of the most important surnames in Stormwind City? What if this goes wrong? This will cause wars, Jorgen."

"How serious this is, I understand much better than you. Our main purpose is no longer to solve the case, but to pray for the safety of this mother and son. Can you contact ships leaving the port as soon as possible?"

Hennessy sighed heavily.

"Before we came here, we passed by several hotels. Didn't you hear them discussing anything? The storm at sea has come, Jorgen. All fishing boats entered the port many days ago, just for this day. According to previous years, the storm will last at least five days. Even the goblins who have business to do will not risk going to sea."
