Tiffany began to speak in a serious tone when it was just her and Butch left in the room together. "Hmm... how should I put this? Someone within the police was involved this time and they seem to be connected to who was behind it.
I do not know how deeply they are connected since they did not mention that person or group by name but I was able to understand enough from the conversation over the phone. That police officer is corrupt and there could likely be more who may have been corrupted too."
Her meaning was that it was not just the police where there could be some hidden dangers lurking.
If there was someone to turn so many against their people at such a time to create so much damage to two gangs then they either had to have some control from within or they had to have had someone informing them from the inside.
Some had shown their betrayal during the previous attack but those could have just been pawns that could have been used and discarded by someone else.
If the group Butch was a part of had such internal problems then the same could happen just about anywhere.
There were plenty of people who had their motivations to seek more power or to side with those who offered more benefits and a better chance to survive.
Nobody wanted to back the losing side and it was easy to get people on their side that way if they showed how effective their methods were.
Even personal relationships could be manipulated to someone's advantage if someone had jealousy or hatred towards someone else.
If someone had something that another wanted badly then they could be manipulated with promises of being able to obtain it.
Only those who were truly attached to a group and had complete unwavering loyalty would not be swayed by such temptations.
Unfortunately, such people would usually be the first targets for elimination.
It made sense that Butch and many others would be the main targets since it would help eliminate those who would remain loyal and fight back.
It was not just a method to remove a potential source of trouble but it was also a method to shift the blame onto another.
What made it worse was that there were various factions within the gang and it was the same with any other group.
All it took was for two factions with different viewpoints and goals to turn on each other if they were given enough of a push.
That was what made the scenario that played out so scary.
If it had not been for Tiffany then it would have gone according to the designed plan.
It was quite shocking for Butch to take in a lot of the information Tiffany had given.
He had those he had trusted a lot and had fought alongside through many life-and-death situations but even some that he had known had turned out to betray him and the gang.
It was like he did not know them anymore and he did not know how to look toward those who remained.
Once the seed of doubt was planted, it was difficult for him to fully trust others again even if they were the ones who had proven themselves already.
He did not wish to mistrust them but it was something that he could not stop himself from doing.
Butch sat opposite Tiffany and his palms were clenched over his knees that they were resting on. "So... there could be more traitors planted... I guess that I will need your help this time."
Tiffany had done some thinking about how to expand her information network and how to best utilize it so she had some ideas about how to approach the situation. "We cannot lose trust in those around us right now so..."
Just as they needed to mistrust someone who could be a potential threat, it would not do the gang any good for everyone to mistrust everyone around them.
It would lead to many suspicions being pointed out and eventually lead to chaos from within.
Anyone who sought to cause such chaos could easily manipulate the situation to their advantage if they wanted to.
They could frame innocent people and incite internal fighting all they wanted so even if the threat had been overcome, it was not completely over.
Tiffany's green eyes narrowed slightly as she thought of something that could work. "How about giving a reward to those who remained loyal?"
Butch narrowed his eyes as he met hers. "I think I know what you are thinking."
Tiffany's lips curled up into a joyful smile as if she was happy that he understood her intentions. "You must know what they like so go and purchase some things for them. You can use some of my funds if you do not have enough."
Butch let out a sigh of relief in response. "Thanks. You are a big help as always."
They parted ways a moment later as he went to report to the others in equal or higher positions in the gang than him.
He did not tell them all of the details after leaving some information that Tiffany told him out of his report.
Some of the things she had obtained could not be carelessly spoken since he would have to reveal the source.
That was his way of protecting her while holding a hidden card that the others did not know about.
His report was done enough to alert them about what had happened so that they would be on guard enough just in case there was a repeat incident in the future.
It was just as important that they began to look into who was behind it so they could take the initiative to deal with the threat ahead of time.
