The unexpected arrival of a massive order, valued at 30 million ryō, left everyone in awe. They had never imagined that this invention, as predicted by their leader, would prove to be such a profitable venture.
While there was a minor element of deception involved in securing this order, the Grass Shinobi didn't find it to be a significant concern. They had dealt with selling false information in the past, making this a mere minor issue.
However, upon learning that Iwagakure was willing to invest such a substantial amount of money to establish a friendship with the Land of Grass, it became clear to everyone, just as their leader had mentioned, that the specter of war loomed on the horizon.
Despite the underlying worry about the potential inevitability of war, the Land of Grass recognized that the development of their region was of utmost importance, as emphasized by their leader. Thus, they resolved to continue their efforts, prioritizing the progress and advancement of the Land of Grass.
Internally, a sense of calm prevailed. Apart from a select few informed Grass Shinobi who were aware of the looming possibility of war, the news did not spread widely. However, behind the scenes, quiet preparations were underway within the Land of Grass. Recognizing the future prospects of chakra condensers and micro-scrolls, Akihiko made the decision to construct the factory in advance, setting the stage for further advancements.
Despite the fortunate nature of this order, it was clear that amidst the imminent war, few individuals in the entire ninja world would express interest in something that did not offer substantial benefits to ninja abilities, power, or the war effort. However, as the Third Great Ninja War would approach its conclusion, the ninja world would transition into a phase of peace and rapid development. Therefore, it became paramount for the Land of Grass to capitalize on this opportunity and establish its technological superiority and market presence before that time arrived.
By establishing a strong presence in manufacturing, the Land of Grass aimed to capture the attention of the ninja population, even if other major nations realized its potential later. They were also keen on establishing an upscale, high-quality brand ahead of others.
Furthermore, taking advantage of the ongoing war, the production and sale of scientific ninja tools and military supplies presented a profitable opportunity. While other countries were embroiled in conflict, the Land of Grass could engage in peaceful small-scale business. However, this time they would refrain from selling intelligence to avoid causing unnecessary panic in the ninja world.
With an agreement reached with Iwagakure, the Land of Grass allocated a portion of the 30 million ryō to construct the factory, while the remainder was invested in further research and development.
Scientific ninjutsu was recognized as the primary driving force behind progress. With all the necessary components in place, the only remaining concern was the shortage of manpower. However, they trusted Mubuki to handle the matters pertaining to Iwagakure, confident in his ability to manage things appropriately.
Akihiko delicately affixed his signature to the document, signifying his approval. As he glanced up, he couldn't help but be enchanted by the joyous expressions adorning the faces of Uzumaki Yoshinori and Uzumaki Yonjin, esteemed elders of the Uzumaki clan. They radiated a childlike exuberance, grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the prosperity of the Land of Grass. In this moment, their hearts swelled with immense satisfaction, as true shinobi should.
"There's no need to rush the production of this batch. We can arrange for the shipment at a later date. I highly doubt that Iwagakure would take issue with the delay," Akihiko informed the assembly.
Upon hearing these words, Uzumaki Yoshinori and Uzumaki Yonjin exchanged concerned glances, their brows furrowing in contemplation. Drawing closer, they engaged in a hushed conversation, their voices laden with apprehension. "Leader, are you suggesting that we default on the order?" they queried.
Akihiko's countenance swiftly turned serious, his response swift and resolute. "No, that is not what I'm suggesting. The Land of Grass prides itself on conducting legitimate business ventures, adhering to the principles that define us as shinobi. However, the production process for the harvester is intricate, and our land places paramount importance on delivering products of the highest quality. Thus, it is only reasonable to extend the shipment timeline by a few years."
Now is not the opportune moment to deliver these machines. If they were to be handed over now, Iwagakure might fail to grasp their true significance. However, once peace is officially established, a splendid ceremony can be organized to showcase the harvester, transforming it into a remarkable event that effectively serves as an advertisement.
Just envision it— even Iwagakure, one of the esteemed Five Great Shinobi Villages, has placed an order for ten units of this cutting-edge product! What an extraordinary promotional opportunity it presents!
Releasing it now would give the impression that they are revealing their alignment with Iwagakure even before the war begins. Such a premature disclosure would harm their reputation as a neutral party. Would they still be able to conduct business under such circumstances? Moreover, shouldn't they also be concerned about the potential for betrayal from Konoha?
While it is possible that Konoha may harbor suspicions, they lack concrete evidence, don't they? Hence, timing is of utmost importance in this matter!
"Military technology and civilian technology must be kept separate, and the exported goods require certain modifications. This is a prime chance to experiment and refine during this period," explained Akihiko, emphasizing the criticality of this strategic approach.
"Understood!" echoed the individuals present, indicating their full comprehension of the strategy.
Once Uzumaki Yoshinori and Uzumaki Yonjin exited the room, Akihiko finally let out a sigh of relief. He leaned back in his chair, savored a sip of hot tea, and mused to himself, "I wonder what Mubuki is plotting. He surely wouldn't genuinely intend to aid Iwagakure, would he?"
…
"Come, come! Look over here," exclaimed Mubuki with unwavering enthusiasm, pointing in a specific direction. "This is the border where the Land of Grass and Iwagakure meet! The terrain is intricate, the environment treacherous, and it's enveloped by majestic mountains. It's a rare gem of natural beauty within the Land of Grass!"
Mubuki's words resonated with the group of Iwagakure shinobi, who cast their gazes around, their expressions a mix of curiosity and recognition. They were well aware of the significance of the Kannabi Bridge—a strategic location nestled between the Land of Fire and the Land of Earth within the borders of the Land of Grass. The bridge boasted complex topography and was encircled by rugged cliffs, rendering it an ideal setting for covert operations.
During the turbulent period in the Land of Grass, the Kannabi Bridge had fallen into the hands of a notorious bandit group, successfully evading numerous capture attempts owing to the intricacies of the environment. It was only through the personal intervention of the Grass shinobi leader that the bandits were ultimately eradicated, marking the restoration of peace in the area.
The fact that the village leader had to personally step in to resolve the issue attested to the complexity and challenges encountered during that time.
Nevertheless, the Iwagakure shinobi silently observed as their Grass shinobi guide, Mubuki, led the way. Sporting casual attire, a hat, and proudly holding a small flag emblazoned with the emblem of Kusagakure, Mubuki introduced himself as the Land of Grass guide, eager to showcase the wonders of the region.
As the Iwagakure shinobi observed Mubuki's behavior, a sense of confusion and doubt began to settle in their minds. They questioned the openness and lack of discretion displayed. "Shouldn't our communication and assistance be conducted covertly? Is it really appropriate to be so overt about it?" they pondered.
Kitsuchi, the leader of the Iwagakure shinobi, hesitated, wanting to address Mubuki and seek clarification on the situation. However, before he could utter a word, Mubuki interjected with a confident tone, cutting him off. "Please, call me Guide Mubuki now!" He adjusted his hat and turned towards the Iwagakure shinobi, wearing a serious expression. "The Grass Shinobi Travel Agency operates as a legitimate establishment. You are all simply tourists visiting the Land of Grass!"
The Iwagakure shinobi silently nodded, finding some semblance of logic in Mubuki's words. "There is a certain rationale to it," they thought, their eyebrows slightly raised as they observed Mubuki, the Grass shinobi advisor.
Internally, they couldn't help but admire Mubuki's cleverness, recognizing the unexpected strategy he had employed. "Indeed, he is a true Grass shinobi! Who would have anticipated such an approach? Truly impressive!" they silently commended.
Noticing the baffled expressions on the faces of the Iwagakure shinobi behind him, Mubuki let out an impatient whistle and urged them forward. "Come on! Let's go! You all signed up for a group tour, so let's not waste any more time!"
"Alright! Understood!" responded the Iwagakure shinobi, now embracing their roles as part of the tourist group, and followed Mubuki's lead.
As Mubuki noticed the attentive gaze of the Iwa shinobi, he began his introduction with enthusiasm. "Behold, the magnificent Kannabi Bridge within the borders of the Land of Grass!" he exclaimed. "This natural rock bridge is not only visually striking but also remarkably solid and sturdy, enabling the transportation of large quantities of supplies. It serves as a vital passage to the Land of Fire and holds immense commercial significance within the Land of Grass. By bypassing the robust rock walls from Iwagakure, you can reach this location directly. The massive rocks surrounding it act as natural barriers, ensuring utmost secrecy and safeguarding the transportation of your goods."
Continuing his explanations, Mubuki's voice filled with excitement. "Now, let us explore the enormous rocks beneath the Kannabi Bridge. These intricate formations conceal hidden paths that lead in various directions, providing exceptional secrecy. Grass shinobi remain unaware of these pathways, allowing you to make a direct retreat. Once you find yourselves behind these rocks..." However, before he could finish his sentence...
"Hold on! Hold on!" interrupted Kitsuchi, frantically holding a small notebook and calling out to Guide Mubuki. "Please slow down! I haven't finished taking notes yet!"
Mubuki sighed playfully, shaking his head in a mock exasperation. "Oh dear, we're moving at a snail's pace!" he exclaimed, glancing at the sun overhead. "It's already noon. Let's take a break and explore the surroundings. Once you hear my whistle, regroup immediately."
"Thank you! Thank you!" Kitsuchi expressed his gratitude, his eyes filled with appreciation as he looked at Guide Mubuki. He was genuinely impressed by the detailed explanations and the opportunity to conduct a field inspection. Moreover, the fact that Mubuki allowed them to explore the area was an added bonus.
Truly, the money spent on this venture was well worth it! It came as no surprise that Grass shinobi had thrived in the intelligence business during the First Great Ninja War. Their exceptional service was a testament to their expertise and professionalism.
