John suddenly opened his eyes, which were filled with fear. He panicked and darted his eyes around the room, not knowing where he is.
A few moments ago he was fighting for his life, now he is in his old room, lying in his bed.
He looked to his right and saw a girl, around the age of 5, lying next to him. She had her mouth open, slightly drooling on the pillow. She is smaller than an average 5-year-old, she has brown hair and blue eyes. Her mom left the child and him on their own.
John is working as a construction worker with a decent wage, more than enough to take care both of her and himself.
"Katy...?" John opened his eyes even wider than before, not believing his eyes.
The truth is Katy died when she was 16 because of cancer of the kidney. She was diagnosed with the tumor when she was 10 years old and was fighting it for six long years. It could've been cured if there would've been a match for her blood and bone marrow, but there was none and they couldn't transplant any for her, and thus she died.
When she was diagnosed with the condition, John put almost all his wages into her treatment but it wasn't enough.
After her death, he was, obviously, devastated, but he had to move on. But he didn't know how.
That was when John's friend introduced him to a VRMMORPG game called 'Lumina Online'.
It was a game that everyone was playing, probably the most played game throughout the world.
In the game, you can become anything and anyone, but what was the most loved about the game is that you can convert the in-game money to real-life one.
John became a professional gamer, but he was never on top levels, so no one actually knew him, but he still made good money. Of course, he never cared about it, since he didn't have any use for it other than buying food and paying rent.
John died because after getting a piece of S-rated equipment, he didn't give it to an entitled little shit, so the little shit found where he lived and sent a bunch of goons to beat him to death. John didn't accept his fate and took down two men with a baseball bat, but that didn't do much, since...well, he is here.
John's eyes suddenly became firm and got out of bed.
'It's been a week since the game came out.' John thought.
John instantly made a plan. What is it?
John plans to make a lot of money in the game convert it, and make sure that all the funds go into cancer research to find a cure for it.
John suddenly looks at his wristwatch and sees that it's 7:00 am. John frowns, then picks up his phone to find out that it's Monday. John sighs and then goes to wake up Katey.
John softly looks at Katey, tears threatening to come out of his eyes, but he holds them back and gently starts shaking her.
"Wake up, angel," John says in a gentle tone.
"Hmmm..." Katy hums in displeasure at getting woken up.
"Come on, you have to go to school."
Katy slowly opens her eyes and rubs them, then gives John a sleepy smile.
John helps Katy get dressed in her school uniform. He helps her brush her teeth and wash her face. Katy is excited to go to school, she loves learning new things and spending time with her friends.
John packs Katy's school bag with books, lunches, and other essentials. They both have breakfast together, and John tells Katy how proud he is of her and how he can't wait to hear about her day at school. Katy looked at him a little strangely, since he rarely said things like this, but she just nodded happily.
They then walk out of the house and get in his car together. (A/N: if you care, it's a Mitsubishi Mirage) Along the way sang Katy's favorite songs.
After they reach the school, John takes Katy to her classroom and drops her off. He gives her a kiss on her cheek and waves goodbye, promising to pick her up after school.
Katy walks into the classroom with a smile on her face, eager to start her day. John heads back home, feeling grateful for the bond he shares with his daughter and for the opportunity to help her grow and learn.
John arrived home and immediately sat down at his desk and opened his laptop. He went to a website of a popular electronics retailer. He found the VR headset, added it to his cart, and did his research to ensure he got the best deal. After much deliberation, John finally decided to order the VR headset.
As he completed his purchase, John found the Lumina Online, and he added it to his cart.
A couple of hours later, John's headset arrived with a drone. He quickly set it up, but before he dove into the headset's menu before he dove into the game, he set an alarm to remind him to get his daughter from school.
As he was done, he went into the library where there was the game 'Lumina Online'. When he bought the game, it was downloaded into the headset's library.
John started the game and after a few seconds, he found himself in a white space. As he looked around he felt kind of nostalgic, it's been years since he was in the starting scene.
As he looked around suddenly a yellow message appeared before his eyes, but something was wrong.

"What the fuck?!" John shouted in fright.
He suddenly felt dizzy and disoriented as if the world was spinning around him, and then everything went black. After a few seconds later, he slowly regained consciousness.
