Honestly speaking, I was never the type to let my emotion rule over me nor do I let a fucking situation fuck me up. I always do whatever I think would make my life easier. And exactly because of this, I quit university and got myself a job at the repair shop. Moved out of my parent's house to free myself from my toxic family members.
Since then, I finally had the taste of inner peace.
And when I say I wanted to make my life easier, I don't mean physically. I don't disdain hard work, really. I'm talking on an emotional and mental level of an easy life.
I just think life is too short to stress myself out with unnecessary stuff. I never dreamt of big things like a big house or a nice car. I just want to be able to sleep in my house, eat whenever I want, have sex with Kristina from time to time. Just a simple life, really. But not everyone thinks the same. Just like the people I was with at that time.
The whole camp was encapsulated in a dome. There was no way to contact the outside world. The dormitory was burning non stop with misshapen shadows doing some demonic dance. I don't know. Maybe they're trying to offer us to some great bad and all of us will die, hopefully not in a gruesome way, end of the story. Dandie Gunnerman is no more but thankfully none of that happened… yet. And we didn't even know if it was safe to go outside anymore as it became an endless expanse of void.
Faced with this situation, people are expected to go into a panic mode and will obviously try to save their own ass first. And the most obvious thing people would do in times like these was to secure their food.
People at the camp weren't kindergartens anymore so when they realized the situation, a commotion erupted at the mess hall. Dunno how it started, I wasn't with them when it all began.
Kristina, Zach and I, including Chad and Kamil rushed there only to see people beating each other into a bloody pulp. A beefy dude whose name I don't remember already took over the mess hall, locked the doors, denying entry to everyone. He came with us to search for our "leaders" but it had somehow turned into this.
"Move out if you don't wanna die!" Yelled Trevor with a bloodied forehead and scraped elbow, he carried with his right hand a steel pipe. Don't ask me where he got it.
People ignored him, he ignored them too as he yelled and charged to the entrance and with all his might, smashed the shit out of the glass door. But since it was a fiberglass, it didn't really do much damage. People caught on to his plan and they picked some rocks and their assault began.
Unsurprisingly though, they actually succeeded and when they made the tiniest crack, they assaulted it over and over again until they created a large enough hole for an adult bear.
The beefy dude tried to retaliate, he was nothing when faced with a tsunami of desperate people. He swung his fist, kicked them, punched them in the gut. But try as he may, he was no superman and he knew that. So he ran to the cooking station, grabbed two serrated knives and swung them like a madman.
And might I remind you, everyone in the camp aren't couch people. They trained everyday so they weren't only throwing their fist mindlessly.
We didn't join. We're just bystanders, watching them as they slowly descend into madness from the stockpiled stress of suddenly getting switched to another dimension and suddenly seeing their dormitory ablaze.
And you'll probably hate me for saying this, but I really wished they all died in the process. I don't wanna deal with these kinds of people. Of all things I hated, I hated shallow people the most who couldn't be bothered to think about the consequences of their actions.
But maybe I was wrong to assume all five of us were just bystanders because Chad actually put himself out there. And with fluid motion, he knocked the people, grabbed their shirts and yeeted them away. Though you'd have to forgive me if I couldn't explain what he did next, after all, at this point, I was still very much untrained.
Anyway, he managed to knock the beefy dude out. Then with a guttural scream he told everyone, "Get a grip!"
Like magic, the chaotic hall fell into a deafening silence. That was how Chad became our unofficial leader. I went to speak to him later that night.
