Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Shooting plasma ball after plasma ball I shouted, "I had to abandon the best Greek salad I've ever had because of you!!!" Whoever he is just absorbed every shot by using the second car he blew up, laughing while doing so.

When I stopped firing he mocked, "Was dinner with your friend ruined? Aw boo hoo. Guess you ought to pick up some drive thru before heading home."

"How the hell do you know that?!" I demanded, feeling uncomfortable at probably being stalked.

"Because—and it's really quite amusing to me—I know who you are, but you haven't the slightest idea who I am." He chuckled.

"Could just tell me, instead of immaturely mocking me." I snarled, annoyed.

"Oh but where's the fun in that?" With that he dropped the car, thankfully not on anyone, then flew off. Ugh, why does he always do that?! I huffed, helped clean up the mess, then went back to my car to finish my salad.

While I ate I thought so hard my brain physically hurt, trying to figure out who this asshole is. By the time I finished eating I had come up with nothing, not even the tiniest idea of who he might be. Sitting in my annoyance I went home, Ian not there yet. Normally I wind up picking up something to snack on before dinner in case he decides to criticize me and my eating habits, but decided not to today due to being creeped out. I got dinner ready and yes I'm going to eat it since salad is not filling whatsoever. Then once Ian was home I cooked it all, still pondering who mystery guy is.

In the morning I got ready for work, then obviously went to work. Axel chatting with coworkers when I walked in.

Since my desk was right there I couldn't help overhearing one of them ask him, "Oh ouch, what happened to your hands?" Which made me look over at the group of them.

"Hmm? Oh, ahh... Well, I was mad at my stove so it got back at me for it. It's nothing, really." He answered with a smile, glancing at me. My face hardened to a glare and I started organizing the papers left on my desk.

Eventually Axel seemingly grew bored with talking to our coworkers and for some reason decided to come talk to me, the people he was talking to going into the back to work.

"How was your dinner last night?" He asked out of fricken nowhere. I sat and blinked, staring in front of me for a second, dumbfounded by his random question.

"Uh... fine thanks. How was yours???" I replied, weirded out. He chuckled and leaned on my desk, invading my space.

"I didn't have dinner, I was too busy for it." He answered, smirking at me.

"Um.. Okay?" I started trying to ignore him but he kept speaking.

"What did you have for dinner?"

"Chicken and rice. Why?" I am beyond confused and creeped out right now.

"You didn't have Greek salad?" Axel pressed, confusing me more.

"What? No, why the hell would I have salad for dinner?" I scoffed, wishing he'd go back to rarely talking to me.

"Mmm.. My mistake I suppose, I forgot you quit your "I only sometimes eat salad for lunch" b.s.. Real shame about what happened yesterday evening though huh? Two cars totaled, stores almost blown up. Luckily no one was hurt right?" I furrowed my brows and blinked in confusion, where in the hell did that come from?

"Uh.... yeah it is, saw it on the news. I hate that mystery guy."

"Ha, I know you do. Guess I should go, I need to treat these burns on my hands. They need so much attention it's ridiculous, and it's only been less than two days." He hummed, slowly standing up right as he looked over his hands, slightly showing them to me.

"Okay? Why would I ever care about you burning your hands?" I snorted, still utterly confused while I continued organizing.

"I suppose you wouldn't, oh well. See you around, Sweetheart." He answered, starting to walk away.

He paused when I snapped at him, "I have a name, don't call me sweetheart."

With a devilish, amused smirk he turned back to face me as he replied sweetly, "it's a shame I guessed correct all those years ago and never knew... hm." Then he disappeared into the back.

What is his deal? He hardly ever talks to me, then suddenly wants to know what I had for dinner? He makes zero god damn sense. What the hell was that last thing about? The fuck did he guess correct on years ago? Also, how do you burn both hands by accident? Do you forget the human body isn't capable of touching things that are over 113°F without feeling some amount of pain? And then proceed to exclaim "oh shit I forgot this is FUCKING HOT"?! Or do you use the two front burners then forget they're still hot after use and lean both hands on each burner?? How do you accidently burn yourself that bad with a stove. Honestly.

I finished work for the day, packing up my things and heading home. Thankfully I didn't have to make a pit stop of stopping destruction of city property today, so I just went straight home and started on dinner.

I heard the front door open and close and heard the sound of a bag dropping to the floor before Ian grumbled, "I still don't like your hair." I let out a sigh before turning to face him.

"It will grow out eventually, it's just hair. And not even your hair so could you please stop growling, whining, sighing and complaining about it? I didn't bleach half your hair, why's it matter with mine? Do you only love me for my looks or what?" I started out civilized, but ended fairly angry. Ian was left speechless, then he just picked up his bag and left to have a shower. I rolled my eyes and finished making dinner, hurt that apparently he probably does only love me for my looks. If that were true though, I'm sure he wouldn't have spent nearly twelve years of his life with me. I know if I were that shallow of a person I'd end up sick of the person's personality at some point a lot sooner than twelve years.

By the time he was out of the shower, I had dinner ready so we ate. Sitting in silence because we have nothing to say to each other due to him being pissy about my hair.

Once we were finished I went upstairs to go to bed while Ian stayed downstairs to watch T.V.. It took me a while to get to sleep however, my thoughts never ending but landing on pondering who mystery guy is. After wondering about it for a little while, sleep finally took over me.

Realization startled me awake. All the hints that were dropped that I was completely oblivious to. My salad, my hair, the burns, the amusement, him suddenly talking to me more than usual, the sweetheart thing, his correct guess years ago. All of it punched me in the face.

Since it was close enough to the time I usually go to work anyways I hurriedly got ready and rushed out the door. I beat most people here so I had to wait, but once he was here I made sure no one was around and sarcastically asked, "You got a minute? Great." Then I pulled him off to the side where no one could overhear us.

"Why exactly did you kidnap me? I was fairly certain you disliked me, but now I can't tell." Axel questioned, amused.

"Oh I can tell you for FULL FUCKING FACT that I goddamn hate your entire existence!" I whisper yelled.

"Wow. Extreme. I'm almost a little hurt by it." He acted innocent, making me roll my eyes.

"You're the asshat that refused to tell me who you actually are! Just so you could laugh at my lack of knowledge about it!"

"Ah, so you finally figured it out huh?"

"Yes I fucking did no thanks to you, asshole!"

A smirk came to his face as he casually replied, "Actually, I did try telling you. It's not my fault you can't pick up on hints."

I was fuming, I cannot believe this man. I couldn't even look at him anymore and just shook my head, striding to my desk to get to work.

Axel probably still had a smirk on his face as he followed me over and commented, "You know, I really thought you were smarter and would catch on immediately. Apparently I was wrong."

"Get the hell away from my space before I sucker punch you in the groin." I snarled, glaring daggers at him.

He put his hands up in mock surrender, stepping away from my desk as he replied, "I highly doubt you would do that, you're too pure and true even though you're wrong about everything." Tipping his head he added, "Have I mentioned I like your hair?"

I aggressively stood up and growled, "Get the fuck out of here." Axel backed up a bit more, still smirking. "See I would, but I kinda work here so I can't go very far."

"I've got a few suggestions on where you could go." I muttered, sitting back down.

"Oh really? Like where? I hope your bed isn't one of them." He inquired mockingly.

"No. Ima put you the fuck in your place."

"And I might just put you in yours on your knees, it'd be quite fitting for you." He smartly retorted, challenging me.

"You think about that image a lot?" I questioned, tipping my head and squinting at him.

"You'd like it if I did wouldn't you? However, the answer I've got for you is no. I don't. I don't like anyone enough for that kind of imagery, least of all you so don't flatter yourself."

"I would never even DREAM of being with you like that so how bout YOU don't flatter yourself." I stated, fully ignoring him after that. I went through my filing cabinets to make sure they're still organized and I finally heard Axel leave, those kind of thoughts being forced to run through my head again.

God I would love to kick his ass 24/7, I hate that I can't since as far as I know no one knows he's the one destroying everything. That, and every single one of our coworkers love him.

"Pft what was that all about?" I heard Angela behind me.

"Hmm? Oh, that. Uh nothing, pretty much just the good old who's dick is bigger argument."

"And who won?" She chuckled.

"I believe I did, though I'm sure if you ask him he'll say he did. Anyway what's up?" I asked, turning to face her.

"I've got papers for you, we've got a new project to work on. I named it the Newman project since the guys last name is Newman." She answered, shrugging as she handed them to me.

"Okay, I'll file these away."

"Let me know when you're free, we haven't hung out outside of work in what feels like months." Angela added, lightly hitting my arm.

"I know, I'm sorry. You've got me busy here lately and Ian is acting up and my sisters demanding attention too. I'm trying here. But um... I'm actually free later today if you want to go for coffee or something." I replied, feeling bad.

She gave a reassuring smile and responded, "Its okay, there's no pressure. I know you're a high in demand woman. But sure, coffee sounds good." Giving a small smile back I nodded and got back to work, so she took her leave and got back to work as well. I was excited to hang out with her, but I'm not getting my hopes up for it since there is an eighty percent chance it'll get interrupted by Axel the Asshole.

As always... I fucking called it. Just as Angela and I sat down with our coffees, I happened to look out the window and see a certain idiotic halfwit fly down the street. My body froze as I started seething at the fact I can never visit with anyone without getting interrupted. I racked my brain, trying to come up with an excuse to leave. Thankfully I usually have my phone on silent so I don't always have to go to the bathroom to fake sudden news. I faked checking my phone messages and pretended Ian texted saying a pipe burst at home and I need to come help clean up the colossal mess.

"Ugh I'm so so sorry, I'll talk to you later though. Let you know how bad it really is. I'm so sorry." I profusely apologized as I stood, then hurriedly left.

Angela looked confused and worried but couldn't get a word in, which meant I didn't have to explain anything yet aside from a pipe bursting at home.

I drove off, at first going the direction of my house but when she wouldn't be able to see me through the window anymore I veered off to park and hide.

Once my gear was on I flew to where I saw Axel go, firing a shot at his hand to knock his weapon out of it. He had a gun aimed at a woman and when it got shot out of his hand he immediately brought his hand to his body, shouting, "Ow! Son of a bitch, what the fuck was that for?!"

"You cannot be serious with that question. You were about to shoot a woman is what that was for!" I loudly retorted as I strode closer, the woman running away.

"Oh great, thanks for that. Now I have to wait for my moment of opportunity again and get her then." Axel sarcastically stated, flicking his sore hand at his side while gesturing with his other hand.

"I have a better idea actually, you want to hear it?" Fake innocence barely masked the venom in my voice.

He acted like he was thinking about it before replying in a bored tone, "Mm.. no, not really."

"Too bad. I'm telling you anyway. Instead of stalking and practically hunting people you could, guess what, just NOT do that. Amazing huh?" I sassed, ticked off.

"I suppose I could, but that'd be so boring. There's no excitement or satisfaction in that route."

"You can have the satisfaction of not scaring, hurting or possibly killing people. Is that really not enough for you? Literally what is the point of doing this to innocent people?"

Axel stood and just stared at me after that, his mask of course had to block his expression from me. I imagine he's either smirking or his face is unreadable anyway.

Suddenly he stalked up to me, stopping directly in front of me. I had taken a step back, which he darkly chuckled at.

"I find it so pathetically humorous that you genuinely think these morons are innocent. You like to see the good in everyone except me, don't you?" He dangerously cooed, yanking my arm so that our bodies were practically pressed together. My free hand went to his chest to push against him, leaning as far as possible with my one arm trapped in his grip. I had bit back my gasp of surprise while my heart continued to pound.

"That's not true, I don't see good in everyone. There is no good in people like Hitler or—" my response got interrupted by Axel's obnoxious laugh before he scoffed, "You're seriously comparing me to Hitler? Oh sweetheart, your incompetence astounds me." He pushed me away, causing me to slightly stumble while I processed his words. "Now that you've obliterated my window of opportunity I have to go plan for the next one. Don't mess it up for me this time, it's quite bothersome when you do that." He stated, sounding pissed before he flew off. I flew after him to try and convince him to stop this crap, but he's faster than me. Guess I'll be spending time trying to upgrade my gear again, ugh.
