Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Formal Expectations

Tuesday after school I walked up to the fourth floor, entered the student council room, and sat at my normal spot. Everyone else was already there sitting where they usually sit as well. "Welcome everyone to the second student council meeting. I would like for us to help out the other clubs over the rest of this week and next in preparation for the annual welcoming festival. Kyo already got the list of items they need, those items will be here between Thursday and Friday. Shino, did you get a list of what each club wants to do?"

"The theater and cosplay clubs want to make a haunted house. The sports clubs want to assist the children in practise and have offered to watch over them for extended periods of time so the parents can also have fun. Along those lines the napping club has offered to create a resting spot in the basement. The knitting club is giving out lessons as well as sample items. The gaming club is setting up two large games, human chess and a game maze. The host club is putting up a maid and butler cafe. The art club is giving away materials and lessons to people who want to draw something and have it displayed. The science and witchcraft clubs have decided to team up and do a massive science display in the school's courtyard. The other remaining clubs have still yet to decide what they want to do."

"Good work, in that case we will split into groups of two. One group made up of Shino and Ryuji will assist clubs knowing what they want to do for the festival in any way they can. Group two will be Miura and Kyo who will run items over to the clubs that requested them. Nyuga and I will talk to the clubs that are not sure yet on what to do and find a solution. We will be doing these tasks on Thursday and Friday, and any remaining work will be done early next week." The festival was going to be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning next week.

"Hey pres, I like this plan and all, but what are we doing for the festival?" Ryuji asked. Yuuki thought for a moment, "we are fill-ins for the other clubs, at least for this event. I want to make sure everything runs smoothly as we get back into the hang of things before we hold an activity. If something goes wrong, then we are the ones who will help fix it." Ryuji had a grin on his face, "works for me." The rest of us nodded in agreement at this plan. "Great, that concludes this meeting and I will see you all on Thursday. Kyo, I need you to stay behind for a minute." Everyone else walked out of the room saying things like "thank you," or "later." Once again it was just Yuuki, Mr. Nyuga, and myself in the room, this was about my formal duties as the treasurer of the student council.

Mr. Nyuga began to explain, "Your role as treasurer goes as follows: Meet with every club at the beginning of each month to get a list of items they need." Yuuki interrupted him, "We gave you a week this time to do that, but in the future it should only take you two days to meet with everyone." Mr. Nyuga nodded before continuing, "After you meet with them, order those items from the student council's laptop, this is where you have to watch how much money you spend since it is the school cash. Yuuki will show you how to order stuff later. Once those items arrive, even if it's on a weekend, you have to go to the school and deliver those items before that club has its next meeting, that's what your key will be primarily used for. You're also in charge of locking up the school if you're the last to leave the building, hopefully that doesn't happen. You have to tally up how much money we make during events, and keep track of how much money we have left after each purchase. Your job requires panning, budgeting, financial reports, records, and assisting clubs with their needs and desires. Essentially you're the life line of each club."

This was a lot of information to take in, I was told some of that information previously, but he was very serious in his words. I could only imagine the repercussions if money somehow went missing, or if the school wasn't locked on my account. I wouldn't just be expelled, but also be charged with a number of crimes, not that I ever planned on stealing or anything, and I don't think they thought I would do that either, but IF I did or IF those things happened, that is what he was really warning me about. I gulped down my next swallow out of nervousness, "I understand."

"Any questions so far?"

"How do clubs earn money?"

Yuuki chimed in, "well you see that is also partly your task, our school holds a lot of events, more than most, and everyone who isn't a student here has to pay a fee to get in. $15 dollars for adults, $10 for teens, and $7 for children. That may sound like a lot for a school festival, but after their fee everything else is on us. They get meals, drinks, lessons, samples, and more. Honestly they get a lot more than what they paid for. At the end of it all that money goes to you, you have to count it and that is how we pay for clubs to get new stuff. That money is also how we pay for clubs to do future plans leading into the next event(s), it's not all that complicated once you get used to it." I got the gist of it at this point, we can't just give each club a certain amount of money every event since different clubs need different amounts, some a lot and others little. I also thought it would be easier to give the advisors of each club x amount of money, but if there was an issue or it went missing that would be harder to explain than if it all just fell onto one person (me).

"I think I get most of it now."

Mr. Nyuga went back to his desk, Yuuki was happy to see me getting the hang of things, "Great, the rest will come with time."

After their explanation of my role, Yuuki told me the login to the laptop and taught me how to order items. It all felt fast and overwhelming to me, so I just nodded. "If I have any questions I'll let you know." I walked out of the room wondering if I was really the right choice for such a hard position. Everyone else seemed confident in my abilities though. Before I knew it Thursday had arrived.
