Chapter 409 - A Life For A Life

The vampire's grin widened, revealing his sharp fangs. "What I want is simple," he replied, his voice dripping with malice. "I want to see the Werewolf kind eradicated. Starting with you, but what are you? Cause you are not a Werewolf."

"Even me, I don't know the full answer," Miller answered his question, "but I know if you attempt to hurt my friends, I would teach you a lesson, you would never forget."

[Green Energy]

In a flash, Miller's arm found itself encircled by glowing green chains, like they were made of pure energy. These chains weren't real; they were more like mystical creations. And the coolest part? They had seriously sharp edges, with the tips ending in some seriously wicked blades.

Miller's entire form bathed in a subtle, verdant glow, with his eyes radiating a captivating shade of green. But what really stole the spotlight was the chains clutched in his hand, nearly stretching out to a length of five meters.

"Is that magic?" the vampire inquired with astonishment. "You must possess a substantial amount of Mana for such a feat. Or is it merely a clever trick?"

"If you're curious whether it's magic or a mere illusion, step closer and witness it firsthand," Miller responded. Simultaneously, Watson cautiously approached the door, aware of his vulnerability. Jacob stood prepared to strike the vampire at a moment's notice, his claws honed and his transformation into a werewolf imminent should the situation demand it.

"I'm not concerned with you," the vampire stated, directing his gaze at Miller, then shifting it to Jacob. "It's his kind that needs to be eliminated. They've harmed my kind and deserve to face consequences," he added, clenching his fist tightly.

"I understand the pain, but we have to find another way. I don't want my friend's life to end, at least not today," Miller spoke with a heavy heart.

"Friends?" The Vampire's tone shifted as he aimed his sword at Miller. "Do you realize those vampires they killed were someone's family? They had brothers and sisters grieving for them right now. They had dreams and lives left to live!" He paused briefly, taking a breath to steady himself. "Now, tell me, does your friend not deserve justice? If someone close to you was taken from you, what would you do?"

The Vampire's voice trembled as he continued, "My own son was one of them, and he was taken from me..."

The way the Vampire spoke, it was as if he was holding back tears, trying to regain his composure. Jacob, at this moment, couldn't help but feel a sense of sympathy. Based on what the Vampire had just revealed, it seemed justifiable for him to seek vengeance. An eye for an eye. However, he couldn't do that, not after Miller had miraculously brought him back to life.

On the other hand, Miller couldn't help but empathize with the Vampire's pain. His own father had also been slain by an unknown mutant, and Miller was still in the dark about the identity of the culprit. He understood the intense desire for justice because he, too, had vowed to himself to make the person who murdered his father suffer a slow and painful fate.

"Miller, it's not that I don't like Jacob, but I need to be honest with you," Watson spoke up from behind Miller and Jacob. The Vampire, in the same breath, removed his silver helmet and let it fall to the ground. He clutched his sword tightly in his right hand, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"I want you to see my face before you take your last breath," the Vampire said slowly, his grip on the sword unwavering. It wasn't fear that held him back, but a hesitation to end a life.

As Miller turned to listen to Watson's words, he was taken aback to see tears now flowing from Watson's eyes. In a somber tone, Watson continued, "Miller, do you ever wonder why I never talk about my parents? It's because they're dead... My parents are gone, Miller! My mom was murdered by a mutant when I was five... My dad suffered the same fate when I was ten... I had to live with an aunt, and her family made my life a living torment."

Miller was taken aback by this revelation. Watson had always claimed his parents were abroad whenever the topic came up, and now Miller understood why Watson had to fabricate that story. There were many things he didn't know about his best friend, such as the fact that Watson was an orphan, the details of his hometown, and where he lived.

"Watson," Miller said gently, "I'm so sorry... I had no idea."

"Now you do," Watson replied, his gaze fixed sadly on the floor. "I'd do the same if I ever met their killer. I know you'd do the same if you found out who murdered your dad."

Jacob, standing behind Miller, lightly touched his right shoulder. His claws were no longer extended or sharp. In a soft tone, he said, "Miller... I want to thank you for being a true friend, even when I wasn't..."

"What's going on? What do you mean?" Miller turned his head to the right side to look at Jacob, who had a sad look on his face.

"An eye for an eye," Jacob said, winking his left eye as if it was funny. "A life for a life..." He paused for a bit and looked at the Vampire, who was still standing, tears in his eyes, and his sword held tightly in his right hand. Jacob then turned back to Miller and said, "Goodbye, we'll meet up there. Please don't interrupt. Tell my mom, I lo-"

SQUELCH!

Out of nowhere, the Vampire darted forward at an astonishing speed, thrusting a sword into Jacob's heart. His movements were so swift that no one in the room could respond in time. Strangely, Miller's eyes failed to catch any sign of this, and he didn't hear the movement. All he heard was the sword plunging into Jacob's body, and before he could react, it was already too late.

With a heavy thud, Jacob collapsed to the floor.
