Chapter 398 - Vampires Have Arrived (Part 3)

Maxwell sat there silently, his head bowed, his mind reeling. The laws of the Vampire Settlement were clear - a vampire's life was worth more than a werewolf's. And yet, he couldn't help but feel that something was not quite right about that. He couldn't put his finger on it, but the idea sat uneasy in his gut. Was it possible that the laws were unjust? That perhaps a life was a life, no matter the species? He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. It was not his place to question the king's authority.

The king was resolute in his beliefs, unyielding in his devotion to the laws that governed the Vampire Settlement. He was determined to do what was best for his people, even if it meant making difficult decisions. To him, it was a matter of survival, of protecting the ones he cared about. He would not allow anything, including the lives of werewolves, to stand in the way of that. He would do whatever it took to ensure the safety of his people, no matter the cost. Ironically, he was still the one who had a Dhampir daughter secretly.

"So Gary is there anything you would have to say?" The King asked Gary who kept a pitied face looking at Maxwell, Maxwell was sitting down with his head bent in shame.

It was true, the King was right and was always right. Vampires lives matter to them more than Werewolves. 'Oh, Stupid Laws,' Maxwell thought angrily.

Gary stood up after glancing at Maxwell for a bit, "My King, I believe we would have to strike."

"Good," The King said with a smile, "Don't forget we are superior to those Werewolves. They have to pay."

"Let me know what you all think and I want you all to be honest with me," The King said, "For those who want us to attack the Werewolves immediately should raise their right hand," The King raised his hand and so did the other Council members except Maxwell.

The King then turned his gaze to Maxwell who clearly hadn't raised his hand, "For those who don't want the Werewolves to be punished until enough proof is found should raise their right hand."

Maxwell was the only person who raise his hand. "Even without your vote, I can still decide what to do," The King said boastfully, "I am the King for a reason," He said giving Maxwell a wink with his right eye.

The King stood up and said, "Alright fellas, I have got a game to catch." The king then moved to the door and when he got there, he turned and looked at all of them and said, "We must punish them tonight," After those words, he left immediately.

The King told the council members that he was going to see the game, but instead he branched somewhere else. The king entered a pitch dark room, although dark, the two Vampire Knights behind him and himself could clearly see inside.

The king ordered them to close the door immediately and Grant did immediately.

The King went to sit down on a throne shaped chair. This wasn't his exact throne room, but it was something he liked and so he kept it.

The king sharpened his index finger on his right hand and used it to scrape the chair. Unlike the chair in the Vampire Council Meeting room, this one was made of entirely wood. This allowed the King's finger to pass freely as a mark has been formed on the chairs arm rest.

"I still remember the day, I found out what she was," The king said, his gaze looking at the chair he was scratching with his index finger. "I also remember when I gave Alex that task."

The king then stopped scratching the chair, he stood up on his two feet with his shoulder slightly raised. He walked to the two guards and looked at them firmly for a second and then turned his back at them.

Grant and Noah felt a shiver ran through their spine when they saw the King's look. it was terrifying, they thought the King would have killed them instantly.

"I am sorry, I almost vented my anger towards you," The king apologized, his back still facing them and his face looking at the floor.

"It was a mistake..." The King said as tears broke from his eyes, they ran like a heavy current river.

The two Knights understood what he meant, he was talking about his secret daughter, Catherine, a Dhampir. Even if the King was mostly above the 'Vampiric Law'. Having a Dhampir would get him stripped from such position.

The King wasn't sad about his position, it was about his daughter, he didn't want anything bad to happen to her.

Both guards had their hands placed on the King's shoulders. The king turned his gaze to look at Grant on his left side and then Noah on his right side.

"I want to give you both a special mission," The King said looking at both of them at first, he then turned his gaze to look at Noah, "I want you to make sure Catherine doesn't come out this night, I want her to be safe at all cost. If anyone tries to kill her, whether Humans, Werewolves..." The King paused a bit and said, "Whether Vampires, kill them that try."

He then looked at Grant and said, "Make sure the Werewolves are dealt with and if you find another Dhampir that is not Catherine, bring him alive for questioning if that's possible," The King then turned his back towarfs them again and said without looking back, "You may leave." He commanded.

Leaving the room, Noah had a thought in his mind, 'My plan can still not be compromised. My king, I am sorry, I didn't mean to do it, but Dhampirs are a threat to us. You are too blinded to see that because she is your daughter. Even if I kill her, I still have someone to put the blame on.'

Moments later, Benjamin got a letter on his desk written. 'The Vampires Have Arrived...'
