In the context of this novel, an Alpha is a powerful and revered leader within a werewolf pack. They hold a position of authority and are typically the strongest and most dominant member of the pack. Here are some key characteristics and roles of an Alpha in this novel:
1. Strength and Power: An Alpha is the strongest and most physically powerful werewolf in the pack. They possess enhanced physical abilities, such as strength, speed, agility, and heightened senses, which make them formidable in both human and wolf forms.
2. Leadership: Alphas are natural leaders who guide and protect their pack members. They make critical decisions for the pack's survival and well-being, including matters related to territory, conflicts, and alliances.
3. Rituals and Traditions: The Alpha plays a central role in maintaining the pack's traditions and rituals. These may include initiation ceremonies, gatherings, and customs passed down through generations.
4. Connection to Wepwawet: In this story, the Alpha is seen as a representation of the Egyptian god 'Wepwawet' within the werewolf pack. They are believed to have a special connection to this deity and may receive divine strength and guidance.
5. Red Eyes: An Alpha's eyes turn red when they are angry or when they transform into a werewolf. This red eye color is a distinctive trait that sets them apart from other pack members.
6. Pack Unity: An Alpha's presence fosters unity and strength within the pack. The members feel safer and more empowered when their Alpha is nearby, and they often fight better as a cohesive group.
7. Challenges and Succession: In some cases, an Alpha may face challenges from ambitious pack members who seek to take their position. This can lead to physical or symbolic challenges to determine the Alpha's authority. If a Beta's eyes turn red without a ritual, it signifies their selection as the new Alpha, and the current Alpha must step down.
Overall, an Alpha in this novel is a central figure who embodies strength, leadership, tradition, and the divine connection to Wepwawet. They are vital to the pack's survival and well-being, and their role is both respected and revered by pack members.

"Uh, I don't want to pick," one of the students said, nervously fidgeting with their hands.
"Me neither," said another. "It's too much pressure!"
The group began to murmur amongst themselves, clearly uncomfortable with the idea of choosing a new Alpha. Even Alexander and Sophie looked uneasy at the thought of taking on such a responsibility. But then Benjamin spoke up.
"If none of you want to pick, then I will." His voice was firm and steady, and the group fell silent.
"Are you sure?" Sophie asked, a note of concern in her voice.
"Yes." Benjamin said firmly as he placed his hand on his chin and a smile could be seen on his face as some parts of his fangs were also showing. "I Pick Alexander Reynolds."
"What?!" Alexander exclaimed, his eyes wide with surprise.
"But... but I don't want to be Alpha!" he stammered. "I'm not ready for that kind of responsibility."
Sophie looked equally shocked, her mouth agape. "You can't just decide that for him!" she said, turning to Benjamin. "Alexander has to choose for himself."
But Benjamin simply shrugged. "It's already done. The pack has spoken."
Alexander opened his mouth to protest, but no words came out.
"But that's not how it works!" Alexander protested, finally finding his voice. "The Alpha is supposed to be the strongest, the fiercest warrior. And that's you, Benjamin! You're a Natural-Born, you're far more powerful than any of us."
Benjamin remained silent, his expression inscrutable. But then he spoke, his voice firm and resolute. "I have no interest in being Alpha. I am happy to let someone else take that mantle, if they are willing."
"But I'm not willing!" Alexander cried, his frustration evident.
"A true Alpha must be more than just strong," Benjamin continued, looking around at the assembled pack. "They must be a leader, someone who can think clearly and make decisions for the good of all. I am not that person. I know my strengths, and I also know my weaknesses. And I know that I am not ready to be Alpha."
Sophie considered his words, and she realized that he was right. Being Alpha required more than just brute strength. It required wisdom, patience, and the ability to make difficult decisions. And while Benjamin was many things, he was not that.
"No, I think it should be Alexander," Samantha said, stepping forward to stand beside him. "He has already shown great leadership in times of crisis. He's not afraid to take risks, and he always puts the pack first. I know that he would make a great Alpha."
Isaac nodded in agreement. "The pack needs someone strong right now. The vampires are coming, and we need someone who can lead us into battle. And that someone is Benjamin."
The rest of the pack looked at one another, unsure of what to do.
"Are you all not going to vote." Sophie said looking at the other Pack members. "I would be the last to vote."
Currently Benjamin and Alexander both have one vote each as the Individual that voted for them stood by their side.
"Those in favor of Alexander being Alpha, please raise your right hand," Sophie said, raising her own hand. One by one, the pack members followed suit, until it was clear that the majority were in support of Alexander.
"And those in favor of Benjamin being Alpha?" Sophie asked. This time, fewer hands were raised, but still a significant number.
"It seems we are at an impasse," she said, her brow furrowed in thought.
"I appreciate the support," Alexander said, looking around at the pack, "but it is not my wish to be an Alpha. In the tradition of our kind, the role of an Alpha is not bestowed on someone who does not want it. I believe Benjamin is the one who should lead us."
A murmur rippled through the pack. It was true that an Alpha must want the role, and it was clear that Alexander did not. But would the pack accept Benjamin, when so many were in support of Alexander?
"I also don't want the role and you should know that." Benjamin complained to him. "We need you, The Vampires are coming anytime soon."
"Then in that case, let's go back to the Old Traditions of the Werewolves." Alexander said with a creepy smile. "How did they pick an Alpha?" He asked already knowing the answer.
"Bloodmatch." Benjamin Replied.
"Yes, Let's use the Bloodmatch to determine who should be the Pack's Alpha." Alexander said and then looked at Sophie. "You are also involved."
