After the two left the dinning. Catherine and Emily were the only ones left in the dinning table. Emily decided to break the awkward silence as she could feel Catherine suddenly quiet which made her a little bit uncomfortable.
"What's wrong. Catherine." Emily said. "I know we are not that close, but you seem worried about something."
"That's because, my grandfather and mother always keep secrets from me and it is always making me curious why." Catherine said in a sad tone. "Whenever i ask them some kind of questions about my Origin or something else. They would just tell me that it is for the best."
"You don't have to be sad." Emily said trying to comfort her. "My dad always keep secrets from me all the time. People keep secret from one another."
"Like you didn't tell us you knew Magic, the first time we meet.. Nor did you know that Miller was more than an Average human." Emily concluded.
"Yeah. I know, but it's different." Catherine replied more sad than ever. "Didn't you enjoy your childhood."
Emily knew clearly she didn't enjoy her childhood because of one bad memory and thinking about it wanted to make her cry instantly. "Y..Yeah...I did." She lied, but tears could be seen standing at her eyes.
"What's wrong. Why do you want to cry?" Catherine asked.
"I just don't know why." Emily replied. "I can't help it."
"Did something bad happen during your childhood life." Catherine asked.
"Yes. I lost my Mother." Emily finally said the truth.
"I am so sorry." Catherine replied and went and gave Emily a hug as she was sitting on the chair.
Emily wiped out the tears from her face and said: "We have to move on in life. Tying myself to what had happened in the past is not good for me."
"The past is a trap for my current self and i don't want to be cut in it's web." Emily concluded.
Catherine smiled. Her friend was more strong emotionally than her.
"So when would we go back to School." Emily said trying to change the topic.
Catherine noticed this, but didn't even bother to stop her, she just played along. "This evening. I want to spend sometime here for a while. We would be going back to school soon. I am sure it is this night. At least that's what i told the others."
"Good." Emily said. "Are you close with your Grandpa."
"You mean my Grandpa; Nicholas. He is the closest male i know." Catherine replied with a smile.
"He's always been there for me, ever since I was little," Catherine said, a soft smile on her face. "When my mom was busy with work, he was the one who would play with me and read me stories. He even taught me how to ride a horse, and how to shoot an arrow. He's been more like a father to me than my actual father would have been."
"That's beautiful." Emily replied. "Your Grandfather seem nice. But i am curious to know about your Mother's husband. What happened to him?"
"He died when i was two." Catherine replied. "At least that is what my mother tells me..."
"I don't believe her." Catherine said again instantly.
"Why don't you believe her?" Emily asked confused.
"Emily. I don't know if i should tell you this. But i would have to for you to understand. My father's name is Nightshade at least that is what my Mother tells me. I don't know if it is true or not. Because of what i am. My Mom always want me to stay where i could be protected. This was why i didn't even answer my father's name and instead answered my Grandfather's name; Nicholas." Catherine said.
"But i don't understand. What are you? Why the strong need to change your name. I don't understand." Emily said confused. "Is it because of Magic?" She asked what was on her mind.
"No. It's more than that." Catherine replied.
"Then what is it." Emily asked.
"It's because my Father was a Vampire and his relationship with my mom gave birth to me which is an abomination in the Vampire Settlement." Catherine said. "I am a Vampire's Greatest Enemy."
"A Werewolf..." Emily wasn't able to finish her sentence as Catherine immediately spoke.
"That is what folklore had made you people to believe." Catherine Said. "I am what Vampires refer to as A VAMPIRE HUNTER or in Short A DHAMPIR."

The door to the room was locked behind them and Nicholas was the last to enter the room. Louise instantly folded her hand and was angry.
"I believe her Dhampir's hearing wouldn't hear us." Nicholas said as he chuckled.
"This isn't funny. Dad." Louise said seriously.
"Everything is funny in this life. It is just the way you perceive it." Nicholas replied.
"But she is your Granddaughter. Why do you plan to tell her." Louise replied angrily. "You know very well that Catherine is always curious to know things. She has told me severally that she feels a connection with him. If we tell her he is still alive. She might want to go and see him."
"And what is bad" Nicholas shouted at her. "She needs to know the truth at the end of the day. Even if you don't tell her. Her own father would come back one day and tell her everything."
"Please, she is my daughter. Your own Granddaughter. I don't want her to have any connections with a Vampire at least not yet." Louise said almost sad. "You know what they would do to her. If they find out what she really is."
"Her father is the King. What do you think they would do. They wouldn't attack her. I just want the best for my Grand-daughter. I don't want my Grand-Daughter to also get close to any Vampires. I just want her to know her father better." Nicholas insisted.
"Please, let's keep the truth from her untill i think i am ready to tell her." Louise said in a sad tone as tears started to run down her cheeks. She knew what the Vampires would do to Catherine if they found out what she was. Even if she and her father were strong Magicians taking down a whole Vampire Settlement would be almost impossible. Because of her fear, she had taught Catherine how to alter her scent with Magic. So Catherine smells like every normal human. So it would be impossible for anyone to know she is a Dhampir Except she told him or her.
Nicholas although he is a hard man had a soft spot for his daughter and granddaughter respectively. "Fine." He said. "We would keep the truth from her."
