Chereads / Sorcerer's Path / Chapter 17 - Unlike Him

Chapter 17 - Unlike Him

*Bringggggg!!!* Sounded the alarm.

About seconds into the alarm blaring up, I came out of the bathroom all dressed up.

I moved toward the alarm and turned it off, stopping it from the constant disturbing cries it made.

Yesterday was a wild one. Wasn't it?...

Reading the book granted me a lot of access to massive info dumps. But in my defence, that is a necessary course considering how far I still have to read.

Surprisingly, yesterday's knowledge took only half a page of the entire book.

Yes, just half of the first page of the book. Can you imagine?...

The handwriting is so tiny that I felt myself not moving anywhere the faster and further I read.

Also, I think there is some sorcery at work here.

Whenever I read a line, I think oh! Time to move on to the next line. But you know what? I never move on to the next line.

At the same time, I do not get confused and mix up words or events. So tell me, how can sorcery not be involved!!

The extent to which sorcery can manipulate the mind of an ordinary person, I am curious to know and I kind of get the feeling that I will once I read the whole pages of the book.

Kind of makes me wonder what other knowledge I would gain if I had kept on reading, or how enlightened I would be once I finished reading all the pages.

Sadly, I won't be finding that out anytime soon.

I still have a long way to go and very little time to work with. I can't let my reading the book become a distraction to my job.

After all, I still have bills to pay. Especially equipment to obtain for my enrollment as a junior student.

I do plan on asking for a day off from Mr. Ripper, but it is not so that I can slack off work to read the book.

No. There is a much more important task than that.

"Strange!". I retorted as I walked out of the cottage and stood at the front, all prepared to run to the store.

Yesterday night. Sorry, I meant at dawn today. My closing time is at two, I come home and rest for four hours before resuming at six in the store.

So that makes it dawn or is it late midnight? Anyway, you get the gist.

The point I am trying to draw out is that after I got home and was handed the book, I was on for two straight hours.

Amazing that even after two hours I did not get past half a page of the book. But again, that is not the point.

My point is, that even after spending two hours reading, I went to sleep knowing that I had less than two to get all the rest I could.

What a surprise it turned out when I found my eyes awake with thirty minutes left to spare before I resumed work.

Even more surprising is how my body does not feel tired like it usually does, and the fatigue that is prone to slow down my body functions is nowhere to be found.

I felt strangely energetic. Too energetic for someone like me who is tasking his body in hard ways.

Can you imagine?!!

I am starting to think that my eyesight might not have been the only thing that changed about me.

My whole body is going through a drastic change, and I want to believe it is a positive one.

"Raul, I have been expecting you". Says Mister Ripper with a condescending tone directed at me.

"What is it, mister Ripper!". I inquired with a hint of worry on my face.

I had only just gotten into the store when he talked to me with a frown expression.

Not even allowing me the chance to get used to the mood or anything.

"Tell me Raul. Where did you get this".

Mister Ripper questioned with a demanding tone, stretching his hand toward me as I was about to walk to the backyard of the counter.

Wrapped in his stretched palm is a brown envelope, and I know what is in that envelope.

"I trust you, Raul, that is why I am asking you this before calling the police so tell me. Where did you get this from"

"Ohh". I retorted with a relieved sigh.

Now I see where the misunderstanding is from. Why was Mr. Ripper so unfriendly to me this morning?

An act that is quite unlike him.

"This is no time to be sighing Raul. Explain to me right now before I call the police".

"Okay, mister Ripper. Calm down and listen to my explanation".

I had to calm him down first so he could listen to me. Once I did, I told him about everything that transitioned yesterday.

How a woman came into the store to get something and how she abruptly left after paying a hefty sum that was more than what she purchased.

I also made sure to let him know how I did the best I could to refund her change, but she had already left before I could do so.

In hopes that she would one day return, I wrapped her change into a brown envelope and kept it safe in a secured spot, behind the counter desk.

Whenever she came back, I was definitely going to give her back her money. It is far too much to consider as a tip, and definitely out of character for me to claim it as my own.

"Why didn't you tell me about all this yesterday when you had the chance to".

Right, I should have, but I didn't because I forgot.

The thing about my extraordinary eyes yesterday did not permit me the chance to tell Mister Ripper.

I was too preoccupied with getting home and brooding more on the events that happened to me, along with the changes in my eyes.

Those things were what made me forget to inform Mister Ripper before I clocked for the day.
