The Kingdom of Runtallia, second largest country in the continent of Neutomia, populated by approximately 6,000,000 souls, has 36 provinces and is divided into five main regions: Nordfell, Sudmork, Ouestorne, Estveine, and the Central Region. In order to dictate one's role and value in the political society, as well as to establish the ruling class in the Kingdom, a peerage system became essential to maintain hierarchy and order. Aside from the monarch, the king or queen that controls the whole realm, who personally oversees the Royal Capital and the central provinces, the highest position in the peerage is the duke, the overlord who holds the vassalage among most of the regional nobility and the highest jurisdiction in the provinces neighboring his domain. He then rules a duchy, the largest province in a region. Under the duke are the marquis, who has command of a vast border territory; the count, who governs a county, a land of large size and importance; the viscount, historically a non-hereditary title of a deputy or lieutenant to the count, but became an inherited status at the present that can be given land holdings by the crown relatively comparable to his superior; and the baron; who owns a barony, a small province that held a number of towns and villages. However, it is worth mentioning that lesser barons of the lower nobility are only entitled to a small fief, to which may contain a single village, to which he can be referred to as the 'lord of the manor.'
