Chapter 5 - Best Time: Secret Achievement!

The changes that I knew from my past life and this one seemed to only be noticeable in the area around Silver City. Items that were not on the market until much later and the appearance of the guild before the year was up were the most noticeable ones.

Each time I noticed the difference I would narrow my eyes and purse my lips. It would blow my cover to speak up about where these supposed advancements came from. I began entering dungeons alone in order to hide my abilities.

In my past life I needed to enter dungeons with ten or more people in order to guarantee my safety, but I just could not take the chance of anyone questioning my abilities in this life.

My suspicions of Silver City were confirmed on a day I decided to travel to the Capital and discovered that the dungeons there were still being quarantined. Damage in the city confirmed the devastation that had happened there.

That also begged the question, why only Silver City? If someone else came back from the future, then why did they only make the changes in that city?

I began to think that maybe their motivations were not that they wanted to save people, but perhaps something more sinister. Like if I brought the knowledge I had from three years from the future, I could possibly corner the market in new products.

The fact that they only had these advancements in Silver City meant they only had enough influence for this region of the country. Or they made a deal with the city officials there to monopolize the technologies.

I rubbed my forehead while contemplating the many different reasons. Getting through the security checkpoints into the city was difficult, so I would just need to enter the dungeon here.

Fortunately, a new feature appeared in the exit room after the tenth time I beat the dungeon.

[Would you like to re-enter the dungeon from here?]

I had been resting for several hours in the room to fake my times, but this was a discovery that would allow me to maximize the time I spent in the dungeon. As far as I could tell there was no way anyone on the outside could tell how many times I powered through a dungeon.

I also had the option to choose a private instance. Something that was not an option for me in the past. I wondered if it had something to do with my overall ranking. I asked the system about it, but all I got were the weird symbols across the screen.

There was probably some kind of condition to unlock more information from the system that I had not managed yet. It was frustrating. It would be easier to go unnoticed in the dungeons if I had more options, but every other dungeon in the country was under the strict management of the government.

The very people I was trying to hide from. My trauma from the past prevented me from attempting anywhere else. So I focused on the dungeon in the city and competed with myself to get the best times.

[Congratulations! You have beat your best time!]

The same message had been popping up a lot recently. However there was another line of text under the usual congratulatory message.

[You have received a reward for your steadfast dedication to beating the dungeon. Would you like to receive the reward now?]

I frowned. This was also not something I had experienced from the past. My curiosity was piqued so I tapped the 'Yes' option and watched loading dots on the screen appear on the screen.

[The player has received more access to the system! A beginner pack has also been awarded.]

A flash of light came from the center of the room and a leather pack appeared below the screen. I ignored the mysterious appearance of the item and studied the screen.

A new button to the menu appeared on the top right of the screen. Its appearance was of a slightly unfolded map, like what you would find on a GPS app or something. Curious, I tapped the new icon.

A new screen opened and the region around Silver City opened up. Several dots were filled out on the screen and amongst the many red dots, two green dots appeared.

One of the green dots was in the center of Silver City and the other was where I had originally taken my tutorial trial. It appeared the system was showing me all the current dungeons in the region.

Did it want me to complete every dungeon in the region? Is this some sort of game? I did not know what the system was implying by giving me this new feature. I scratched my head and clicked on the green dot that was not in the city.

[Tutorial Dungeon: Swamp

Difficulty: Medium

A vast swampland filled with easy to medium monsters. This dungeon will evolve in 100 days.]

Dungeons evolving was news to me. I clicked on the dungeon in the center of Silver City.

[Tutorial Dungeon: Forest

Difficulty: Easy

A small forest created to teach the basics of survival. Dungeon will not evolve.]

It seemed that only some dungeons remained tutorial dungeons and some evolved. Hmmm. It was almost like the system was trying to hint at something. My finger moved over to one of the red dots near Silver City.

[Player has not encountered this dungeon. No information registered.]

Well there goes my idea to get information on other dungeons. It was too good to be true anyway. Just getting the basic information on dungeons I had already entered was enough.

[Would the Player like to enter this dungeon?]

A prompt popped up under the map on the screen. My eyes widened in shock. Could I really enter the dungeon from here? Was this also an option from the reward I received?

My finger trembled in front of the 'Yes' option as I contemplated the possibility that this could be a trap. Later, it would be suspicious to enter only this dungeon, but if I could use this option now, I could stockpile resources to sell later.

I took a step back to think over my options. It was then I remembered the other reward for completing the mission of beating this time. I looked down at the pack.

"System please give me the description for this pack."

A loading screen appeared on the screen where the map was. I picked up the pack and felt how light it was.

[Beginner Backpack +

A reward given by completing a secret objective by the system. Gives the owner the Dimensional Storage skill.]

I looked at the screen in surprise. Dimensional Storage was considered an ultra rare skill. It seemed that no matter what I packed into the bag it would be stored in the Dimensional Storage. I was also registered as the owner so no one could take out what was stored in the pack without my permission.

[Since the Player was the first to achieve this mission you have been given an additional feature. Your Dimensional Storage capacity limit has been set to infinite.]

Infinite? I did not even know that was an option. It was a little creepy how well my life was going this time. At first I thought that I would just play it safely this time and use my knowledge from the past to make my life more comfortable.

However, I was beginning to actually enjoy going into the dungeon this time around. Sure, it was a little suspicious that all the things were different this time, but my life had gotten an upgrade in the process.

I could now sell off my loot earlier, and I was making enough money to pay my bills and actually have savings. The guild was already open also. It made me feel safer than when I had just been experimented on by the government and then thrown away.

I pulled my guild card out of my pocket and grinned at it. There was going to be nothing to stop me from becoming a top hunter in this world. As long as I didn't show my hand then no one would suspect that I had memories of the future.
