Chapter 10 - Griffin Showed Up With The Report

He cracked his knuckles hoping to feel better but that proved to be useless too. The boiling point of his anger could not be matched.

As Xander waited for Griffin's report, so also did Eve as she anxiously waited for his feedback, although she never mentioned it.

The way she kept stealing glances at his desk through the glass walls showed she was no different from her antsy lover.

An hour passed and still he heard nothing from Griffin. The worst part of it was that Griffin never showed up at the office that day, and he wondered what wrong could have possibly happened for Griffin to be held back for so long.

When he noticed he was pressed for time, the fuming guy closed the grey laptop in front of him and switched off his Apple desktop.

He stood up and picked up his black suit from where he hung it. He was about to put on the suit when he heard his office door open.

"Didn't I tell you not to let anyone in?" He berated, not bothering to turn around and look at the being that stepped into his office.

"B...Boss, it's me," A guy's shaky voice made Xander pause on what he was doing, and he turned around to see Griffin standing at the front of his desk.

"What took you so long?" He hollered and hastened to the couch at the centre of the room.

Griffin trodden to join him at the centre table. He placed the white envelope in front of him and went ahead to narrate what exactly happened.

"After our men gave me the location of the hotel the rumoured lady stayed. I went there to confirm things for myself to prevent misinformation." He began while gesturing for his boss to take the envelope.

"And what did you discover?" Xander cut in. He reached out his hand and carried the envelope from the table, and Griffin's expression turned cryptic.

"Although the lady looked exactly like Madam…..she..."

"Did you just say she looked exactly like Giavanna?" Xander quizzed as he shot his head up to look at Griffin, his right hand which was now inside the envelope ceased all movements.

His bulged eyes didn't escape Griffin's notice and to Xander's dismay, he nodded.

"Yes, she might have the same face as Madam but she is the exact opposite of her." He added with a bit of surprise in his tone.

"And what do you mean by that?" Xander narrowed his eyebrows and leaned back on the couch, curious to know where this information was heading.

"Apart from the fact that Madam was a reserved woman, she never indulged in habits like smoking and drinking since it will greatly harm her health. But these are the exact things the mysterious lady indulged herself in." Griffin explained in detail.

Xander couldn't resist crossing his long legs as he listened to Griffin's speech.

"Go on," He urged, his hands on his legs, and Griffin continued. "The information I got is that the lady's second home is clubs and bars. She indulges herself in frivolities and these are things Madam would have never done," Griffin elaborated.

He moved two steps back afterwards.

Xander adjusted his cufflinks and changed the way he sat.

"Since you said she looks so much like my late wife then I can't wait to see just how alike they are." He voiced out before proceeding to bring out the items from the envelope.

Apart from a couple of documents, the envelope also contained pictures of his wife's look-alike, and these were what Xander went after the instant he emptied the envelope.

The disappointment on Xander's face was apparent after he looked at the four pictures in his hands.

"How come her face never showed clearly in all the pictures?" He pointed out.

He glanced at the pictures still in his possession, crinkling his eyes like it would make the pictures appear clearer before his vision.

At first glance, anyone who saw the picture would know she was a woman, but unfortunately only the sideline of her face showed.

"Although we failed to get a clear shot of her face, I can testify that she had the exact face as Madam..."

"Why do you keep referring to her as Madam?!"  He growled and flung the pictures when he couldn't stand the idea of Griffin referring to her as his madam. The envelope included on the table was thrown away.

"It's getting on my nerves so stop referring to her as if she were alive," He instructed, and Griffin gulped down his nervousness as he nodded in affirmation.

Rising to his feet, Xander moved to his desk where he kept his keys, picking them up. After securing them in his grip, he made his way to the entrance.

"Eve and I will go ahead to the venue of the party first. Meet us there," He spoke to the guy who followed him closely.

"Yes, Boss." He replied.

He heeled Xander until they got to where he parked his car at his special parking space.

When they reached his car, neither of the two men were surprised that Eve had gotten there before them.

"See you later, Boss." Griffin bowed and moved away from the ignited black car.
