Chapter 3 - III

Jerking her nose forward, she slowly turned around with the influence of her wolf and walked towards the direction they came from, a direction they both knew they should be running from but neither Maya nor Abelia stopped them as they moved toward their doom

There was something about the scent that was faintly in the air that intrigued them both, the way the scent made them feel was not describable and they badly wanted to find out what it was or whose it is

The scent was getting thicker when Abelia abruptly stopped their movement as she suddenly felt agitated

"What do you think it is?" she asked her wolf who was annoyed at the fact that Abelia was holding her back.

She had heard rumors that dark arts is something most packs practice these days so what if that is what they are using? What is that is what is drawing her back towards where she should be moving away from?

Maya didn't bother replying, she just forced Abelia's movement forward but before they could move ten steps, they came face to face with deadly greenish-red eyes, and the words that Abelia had been aching to hear ever since her best friend said it, came out of her mouth

"Mate," they said with bright smiles etched on their faces

"Oh my goddess," the man said, and the way his voice sounded made Abelia tremble as tingles worked their way down her spine to her private part

"Dang," the man said again after staring at her for a while before doing the most unthinkable

"I Logan Shredder reject you as my mate," he said and she felt a pang in her chest almost immediately the words left his mouth and Maya started whimpering

"Wait, what?" Abelia managed to say and the man shook his head vigorously as if trying to get something out of his head

"What's your name?" he asked and Abelia looked at him as if he had two heads, she simply couldn't process what was going on "I should do this right don't you think?" he asked her and tears involuntarily worked their way to her eyes

'Fucking Maya and easy tears'

"You don't cut deals like that," Logan said slowly as he tried to calm his nerves "Alpha Lucas" he wanted to continue but the pompous egotistical Alpha spoke up once again

"Alpha Logan, it is either you give me thirty-five percent or we don't sign this deal," Lucas said with his face as calm as still water, and that irritated Logan. He never wanted to come to Lucas in the first place; he just didn't have a choice since his pack is the closest to him which has enough manpower to add to his.

"Alpha Lucas, fifteen percent is the maximum I can give you. We aren't the only ones in this deal, and it's gold we are talking about, ten percent is surely more than enough for you to spend for the next five years, imagine having fifteen percent" Logan said trying to make the Alpha see his point but then he knows the man's type of person, and he had already lost hope.

He had hoped to spend the night in the Daemon's pack but as he was seeing the situation of things, he could see that it wasn't possible, and he knows even if he's going to end up getting home late in the night or in the early mornings, he's going to have to leave this camp soon.

"Alpha Logan, kindly understand where I'm coming from too, it's manpower we're talking about. I will have to compensate the men I will be releasing for this job and the pack would also have to benefit from it"

'The pack or you?' Alpha Logan thought inwardly before heaving a sigh

"You see it's either twenty-five or nothing" Lucas completed with one side of his lips curled up, he could already tell how important he was to the gold mining deal so he decided that if he wasn't going to get enough profit, he wouldn't help, after all, with the man-power he has, he could always go ahead and strike a deal with another pack who might be interested in something more profiting

Logan had also decided to approach Lucas because of his reputation of avoiding wars as much as possible and only engaging in deals that'll bring more profit than loss and in Logan's description of his deal, it is more than beneficial

There is an untamed land in one of his newly acquired territories and signs show that the land has gold in it, what they don't know is the level of gold there but he is willing to mine it and give any pack that joins in the mining as much as their effort is worth

No deaths or slaughter involved, so Lucas being too strong-headed on this deal kind of stirs the storm situated in every Alpha wolf on earth

"Alpha Lucas" Logan started and again before he could say something else, Lucas cut in, undoubtedly playing with Logan's control strings

"Why don't you take a walk around the pack, take some fresh air, and think about my offer while I quickly attend to something else," he said and Logan nodded his head

"Okay, sure" he replied as he couldn't deny it, not because he didn't have a choice but because he really needed it, if he stayed a little longer with Lucas, he knew it was only a matter of minutes before his control snaps and that wouldn't give a good result

"I'm really sorry, I'll be right back," Lucas said before standing up and walking out of the meeting room

"Fucking bastard," Logan said as he took in enough air and let it out slowly in other to calm himself

"Alpha" two men said as they walked towards him

"Arthur, Elias" Logan said recognizing his men and he looked at them tiredly "I should have sent Alexander, he has the patience for this kind of thing," he said and Arthur, his Delta smiled meekly

"Well, Beta Alex's presence wouldn't make Alpha Lucas sign the contract," the man said as he moved to his Alpha's back and gave him a shoulder massage

"Oh," Logan mouthed at the relief he got from the shoulder massage, he could have sworn his shoulders weren't tense, but now that the knots were being loosed, he felt he couldn't be more wrong about his own body "What do you think about me going for a small walk, Alaric needs it," he said referring to his wolf

What made Logan one of the most feared Alphas of their generation is his connection to his wolf, it is unmatched and that gives him leverage over others in combat, especially since most Alphas don't have a wolf connection

If it was in combat, he was more than sure Alpha Lucas's pack stood no chance against his own, but in this scenario, only a walk could help him gather his thoughts as it was starting to look like there was no way out

It was also in situations like this he wished his pack wasn't reduced to toiling the soil for treasures to survive

'What happened to the days we fought endlessly for power and authority? Why are we measuring out strength with jewels now?' he thought inwardly before releasing a stressed breath

"A walk is nice but Alpha Lucas said he won't be late so maybe you should just wait" Arthur replied and Logan shook his head

"Nah, he was the one who suggested it so I can bet that he's going to take a while before he comes back," he said as he stood up

"Oh, maybe he went to take care of the rogue incident," Arthur said as he looked at Elias who nodded his head in approval

"Rogue?" Logan asked with his face scrunched as if he couldn't understand what the word meant

"Yeah, a rogue apparently entered the pack territories and stole some stuff but she wasn't caught though, so maybe he went for a meeting with his border securities"

"The security must be very weak," Logan said after giving the situation a small thought "I mean, if not how could they not catch a rogue? A female at that, in fact, how did the rogue enter the first place? Aren't the borders surrounded with iron mesh?" he said as he walked out of the room with his gamma and Elias in tow

"Exactly what Elias and I were discussing outside; how could they lose a rogue?" Arthur said as he followed his Alpha outside
